Bilingual iPhone users, how do you handle Siri only being set to one language at a time? Posted: 03 Dec 2021 02:21 AM PST I'm Swedish and fluent in both Swedish and English. Siri handles English better, and some features are only available when set to English. So I set it to English. Now I can play songs on Spotify with English titles, and I can control my smart home. Then someone texts me in Swedish and Siri starts reading it, and you can't understand a word. Nor can I respond in Swedish. So I set Siri to Swedish. Now the calendar reads stuff correctly, texts are read correctly… until someone texts me in English. And I can't play any Spotify songs unless they have Swedish titles. And so it goes… I remember using googles voice assistant and it switched between languages depending on what language you spoke in. How come Siri doesn't? And how do you handle it? My Apple repair took a month and my Macbook Pro is still broken. Posted: 02 Dec 2021 06:13 PM PST No, not "still" broken, it's "MORE" broken. This is the first time bringing my Macbook Pro (13-in 2017 model) for repair at Apple so I don't know if this is normal or if anyone else had an experience similar to mine. If so, please share with me! First off, I brought in my Macbook Pro on October 30th to an Apple Store because my battery was on a "Service Battery" and so it only worked when it was plugged in and charging. It would shut down within 5 minutes if the charger was not plugged in. Other than that, as long as it was charging it worked perfectly normally. However, because I wanted to bring my laptop to school without lugging around a charger, I brought my laptop in for repair. They sent it to Apple Repair and told me it would take 3-5 days and would be about $200 because I don't have AppleCare. Ok, that's fine. I got an email saying they shipped the product. Sweet. 5 days later, and I hear nothing from them so I check my Repair Status on the MySupport website and it says my repair is on hold and needs to get in touch with me. So I call Apple and they tell me that my laptop repair is on hold because it's not just the battery that needs fixing but the Logic Board and so they need to requote the price to $500ish and asked me if I would like to proceed. I said, yes please. Days pass but there is still no update on Repair Status so I call again, and it seems like the previous person who helped me never gave Apple Repair the update I want to proceed. So I ask them to do it again, but they say their server is "down" so they will call me tomorrow. They did call me the next day saying they're trying their best to reach Apple Repair but can't get in direct contact with them. Then how the hell am I supposed to approve the requote? I don't get it. I called almost everyday checking on the update and trying to fix the issue, until on November 12, I get an email that my laptop is being SENT BACK TO THE APPLE STORE because they never got a response from me about proceeding with the requote. (?!?!??!!) I was so angry because it had already been 2 WEEKS since I brought in the laptop!!! STILL, I tried to patient and understanding and the next day, the Apple Store called me saying the laptop was returned to the store and if I would like to send it back for repair. "Sure," I said thinking that from now on the process with be quick and easy. NOPE. It took 2 more weeks because they had to order parts and I FINALLY got my laptop back on November 30th––EXACTLY A MONTH SINCE I BROUGHT IT IN FOR REPAIR. But hey, I explained my situation and how long it took and how I'm a college student who needs their laptop everyday, and I got a 20% discount on the repair price. Still $400 but still thankful for the discount. So I got my laptop back! Even if it took a month, yay!!!!!!!! Right? WRONG. After getting my laptop back, I was using it for my schoolwork (it's FINALS WEEK too at that) and noticed that the charging percentage was going DOWN as I was charging. And no matter if I plug in my charger or not, it always reads "Battery Not Charging" even though the graphic of the battery has a charging symbol on it. So I brought it in to the Apple Store AGAIN and asked them what is happening. They checked to make sure it wasn't the laptop charger and admitted that the laptop battery is being weird. It doesn't charge anymore. Before I sent it in for repair, it worked fine as long as it was charging but now it can't even charge. I have two final papers due tomorrow. I'm screwed. The employee recommended I send in my laptop again for repair which I was hesitant to do so because I'm sick and tired of investing more time and money into this laptop; i'd rather buy a new one but not at full price. So I am going to send it in for repair for the second time and for now, the employee recommended I "borrow" or purchase a new macbook to use for my final papers and then return it with the Holiday return policy. So that is what I'm doing now. This was a long post––I don't know if anyone even read to the end. But if anyone else is experiencing the same issues or have experienced something like this before, please give me a glimmer of hope that everything will be ok. Will I either get my old laptop fixed or will they replace it after 2-3 tries of repairing it? Halp. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Dec 2021 08:54 AM PST Hi all, I was searching for this earlier and couldn't find a solution, and came across this. If you want to enable YouTube's Picture-in-Picture on your iPhone or iPad without paying for YouTube Preimium: (You have to do all these steps even if they seem unnecessary or it doesn't work in my experience)
Hope this helps someone and is useful! Thanks! :) [link] [comments]
iCloud Family Sharing - what a mess Posted: 02 Dec 2021 03:49 PM PST I'm not sure if anyone else has been experiencing issues with this service, but I've been working with Apple support for the past hour and now having been escalated, been on hold with "senior" support for nearly 40 minutes. I have seen the functionality of Family Sharing get buggier and buggier since having a Family account since 2017. Over the past few months, one of my Family Sharing accounts has been unable to access the iCloud storage I paid for on the account. Support has been no help. Now my 12 year old son's account - which has "Ask to Buy" enabled - is requiring him to enter a credit card to purchase an app instead of asking/alerting me to approve the purchase. I've been dealing with this for nearly 2 hours now (sorry I'm venting) and the best I've gotten from Apple Support was to turn off "Ask to Buy" and turn it back on and try it again (that hasn't worked). Anyway I'm curious if anyone else has seen big functionality issues with this over the past several months or if I'm an outlier here. Seems awfully dangerous to sell a service that "protects" kids from spending money on the App Store but then doesn't actually work. [link] [comments]

A user-script manager for iOS/iPadOS Posted: 03 Dec 2021 05:16 AM PST Haven't seen much news about this but I for one looked very forward to a User-script manager for iOS/iPadOS that allowed me to modify sites as per my needs and load scripts from GreasyFork,SleazyFork or UserScript.zone. And my wishes were fulfilled recently when Macaque dropped. I am aware that HyperWeb exists but it doesn't run any if not most user-scripts. The app is paid but I found more then enough value to recommend it to others incase you ever needed such. Some examples of userscripts I run are :
Disclaimer : I am neither sponsored nor paid. But this safari extension has improved my regular usage of Safari like anything. So just wanted to let others be aware of such an extremely useful tool. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Dec 2021 06:10 AM PST I recently got a new iMac because my other one was about 10 years old. I pretty frequently used the mirror display feature from my old iMac (late 2013) to my Roku stick. At one point it bugged out, when updated but worked fine after. I was concerned the new Mac wouldn't work well but it did, at least up until the most recent update. Now theres 6 seconds of lag between the Mac and Roku. Worse it has on two occasions gotten "confused" and reversed the Mac and Roku displays, even putting the Roku background on my iMac. Would really love to see Apple Fix it. [link] [comments]
enrollment into Apple Developer Program Posted: 03 Dec 2021 03:24 AM PST I am shareholder within a startup company to develop a healthcare app. The app is ready and available in Google Play but not yet in Apple Store. This is because although we filled for enrollment into Apple Developer Program we did not got a meaningful answer or approval. Every time we contact them we receive an answer about how busy is Apple and that we should wait and everytime is another person to asnwer. It is already 3 months. In the meantime we tried to see if another company may get faster approval and we got that, so something is wrong with our intial application but we do not know what. Normally you start a new company, but being not sure what is wrong now, we may endup with the same problem. Furthermore we have VAT number and funds invested into current company so it would be simply stupid to create another one. Is anyone experiencing the same with Apple and may give us some advise?
