| How to Stop Monterey from syncing my iCloud + Local User Account Profile Pics? Posted: 03 Dec 2021 08:12 AM PST The backgroundFor uninteresting reasons, I use two local user accounts on my Mac that are both exclusively for me. As one of many things that differentiate the two environments, I have long set different user account photos in "Users & Groups" within System Preferences. When I upgraded to Monterey, the user accounts and their respective profile pics came with. No problem, just as I've always expected. For even more uninteresting reasons, I decided to wipe my machine and set up as new with a fresh Monterey install. Now, one of the things the two different user accounts share is both being signed in with the same iCloud Apple ID—mine. When setting up each new user account on the wiped machine, I set two different profile pics as I always have. Then signed in to the same iCloud on both accounts...again, as it was previously. The ProblemAfter a bit, I noticed that the both accounts replaced the specific user profile pics I set locally on my Mac with my iCloud profile pic. Making them both the same. Which I do not want. Thought that if could be one of those signature Apple sync/services and or .1 bugs, so shrugged my shoulders, said "no big deal" to myself, and went back to both accounts locally and changed their profile pics to be unique again. iCloud overwrote the profile pics again and made them the same. What I tried thus farI searched all over Monterey to see if I could find some sort or switch, toggle, checkmark and/or setting to see if I could turn this syncing of iCloud profile pics with Mac user account local profile pics off. If that setting exists in the GUI somewhere...I couldn't find it. So then my search went to Google...and the only reference I could find to this specific behavior was in this Stack Exchange post that wants the very behavior I'm already getting and want to avoid. Interestingly, one of the answers puts forth that this syncing of iCloud profile pics is new default behavoir for new user accounts created in Monterey (which is why it only started happening after I clean installed Monterey). I honestly get the logic of the feature and don't hate it. Ideally, I could have my iCloud profile pic sync to only one of the two local accounts...but seeing as the feature doesn't seem to have a setting in the GUI at all, that's unlikely to have been considered by the engineers—so I'll settle for just turning the syncing totally off for both accounts. ...that is, if that's even possible. Does anyone know? My guess is if this can be modified at all, it's probably in one of those (also Apple classic) hidden prefs files...just couldn't find it. Thanks in advance for any help! Now, my Chrome is having a lot of trouble loading webpage images and scrambles text all together making it impossible to work or shop online because I cant see anything. I can't upgrade my version of chrome either because its too old. I have deleted as many things off my Macbook as possible and I cant keep deleting my memories for the sake of using this laptop. It runs fast and fine- never lags or freezes, but I just can't navigate the internet like I used to. However, I noticed that if the video contains any subtitles or text, it usually looks grey or dull in general. | Posted: 03 Dec 2021 10:36 AM PST When at home I plug my MacBook Pro into an LG monitor via usb-c, and everytime I disconnect the cable I get the notification that reads "disk not ejected properly". Is there a way to prevent this notification from popping up (hidden in system preferences, through terminal, etc) without having to go into finder and click eject every time? BTTV sucks and the gif emotes start lagging and freezing. Chat as a whole is very laggy. Pop out chat flat out just doesn't work. If I download e.g. Chrome or VSCode and 'install' it (by dragging the app into the applications folder), how do they update? Do I have to redownload the applications for each update?
