How to disable/adjust mouse scrolling acceleration?

    Posted: 23 Aug 2021 01:46 AM PDT

    Hello,

I recently purchased a mac mini m1, and I am using a 3rd party mouse called corsair harpoon pro. But I am facing a mouse scroll acceleration issue, and it's not smooth and weird! I can't control the scroll wheel. It's very rough! Is there any way to fix it?

big sur 11.5.2 HP Officejet 6500a

I have the mentioned printer and I cannot change it's settings (i.e. print quality etc). The printer is connected through wifi, but I had the same issues when I connected it using usb.

Also there is no option to scan using this printer, while this option exists to import a scanned document through my iPhone or iPad. Also, there is no driver for this HP printer at HP's support site.

I'm new to macOS coming from linux. How do you manage your print / scan jobs?

    Thank you!

Reduce White Point On MacOS Big Sur

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 04:14 PM PDT

Hi, I just recently switched to the MacOS ecosystem. I used the Gamma Panel on Windows10 for reducing white point/gamma. The built-in calibration tool on the Mac is not helpful in this case. Is there any app I can use to directly adjust the gamma ray or white point on MacOS Big Sur?

    Should I go for a 1440p or a 4K external display?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 03:02 AM PDT

    Hey there,

I'm looking to buy a 27" external monitor and also an M1 MacBook Air (This will be my 1st Mac). I wanted to ask if 1440p was fine with macOS because I read online about people complaining about how it makes their Mac run hotter than a 4k display.

I also read that it's just 5K downscaled to 1440p making the machine run harder for no reason. Apparently, there are also scaling issues with the text and UI being too small on 4K 27" and too big on 1440p 27".

    The displays I'm talking about are the LG 27QN880-B (1440p 27") and the LG 27UN880-B (4K 27")

Is this true and should I spend extra to get a 4K display or was this fixed because the posts I read were for macOS Mojave and older 2012/2013 Mac Minis?

    tl;dr: 1440p or 4k at 27" on an M1 Mac.

    Thanks :)

Introducing my window manager for the crazy ones

Introducing my window manager for the crazy ones

    Greetings, fellow MacOS community!

I'd like to introduce my Window manager to you guys out there to hear what you think about it and to get to know if there's any need for it out there.

Do note that my app is probably best suited for professional end-users like programmers or designers, people I'd think get tired of switching between mouse/trackpad and keyboard quickly, like me.

In contrast to apps like Rectangle, you can configure entirely it to your needs. Here's a screenshot of the app's user interface:

    Preferences view

The left side of the preferences window lists all added configurations. There are currently two different types of configurations available:

    • Resize & reposition the focussed window within the current's screen bounds by specifying X, Y, width and height in %
    • Move the active window to a screen at an angle between Alpha and Beta, which is the least common denominator when carrying your MacBook between different locations with different setups of external displays

Configuring angles & sizes also works using your mouse, if you prefer to not think about numbers too much.

    https://reddit.com/link/p9ij7m/video/2f93d064iyi71/player

There's another difference to most window managers out there: You can use whole combos, like in the old PlayStation Theken days, to trigger your assigned configuration.

Use combos to trigger your configuration

The length is currently limited to 7 keys in sequence, which should be enough for everyone out there.

What do you guys think? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

If you are interested in testing a preview version, the current build is signed with an Apple Developer certificate, so feel free to contact me.

If you are interested in contributing, then I'd like to hear from you as well!

Help my Mac isnt changing date right

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 06:50 PM PDT

Ok so I got this Mac it's pretty old and hasn't been used it's a hand me down. But. I can't change the year, the max it will go to is 2561 BE. Because the date is so far back and can't be changed correctly. No internet. So no updating. This Mac is running MacOS Mojave so idk what to do. Nothing online says ANYTHING. Resting isn't an option because. The screen on that Mac is broken and needs to be hooked up to a monitor. And the. Recovery assistant doesn't support mirroring to a monitor as far to my knowledge. Please help

Can't update to 10.15.7 even after trying Apple support suggestion to use safe mode. What version can I upgrade to?

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 03:28 PM PDT

I'm trying to get to Big Sur by using Patched Sur and it requires 10.15.2 and I'm on 10.15 Beta. So I got out of the beta program and updated my software, but it won't update from 10.15 Beta.

I then downloaded 10.15.7 and it won't install in my SSD for some reason. I search Apple's site and they say go into safe mode. Seems this install has a problem and they don't give you any clue how to fix it.

It won't install in safe mode... So I was thinking I'd try older versions or 10.15.

Anyone know of a version that actually works or what the problem could be with 10.15.7?

    M1 MacBook two external displays

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 07:23 AM PDT

    Hello everyone.

M1 Macs cannot use more than one external monitor. This seems a limitation and probably cannot/will not be updated to support this.

I've seen some internet posts that using DisplayLink and a special adapter, we can use two external monitors.

    I have some questions:

1 - I've searched on amazon.es but can't seem to find any adapters that mention in the description that the adapter will work for that setup. What kind of query should I use to show the compatible adapters?

2 - Using this DisplayLink "feature" would increase the M1 processing, that is, will it had more load to the computer that will be noticeable will programming (Android apps)?

3 - I also have an Intel MacBook Pro (2016). Can I somehow use it, so this Mac be an external display? I've opened the Sidecar app but it seems it's only for iPad and MacBook connection.

    Thanks.

Bluetooth needs to be toggled off/on to fix headphone crackling issue

Bluetooth needs to be toggled off/on to fix headphone crackling issue

    MacBook Pro 13" 2017, Big Sur 11.5

I've been having a problem with my Soundcore Life Q20 wireless headset. For a while now (~3 months), that when my headphones are turned on (AKA being repaired), the sound coming out of it is heavily crackled. To fix, I toggle bluetooth on, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. It works great for the rest of the day. I also have a BT mouse. The screen cap below will show you the devices. Once I toggle BT off, all the devices disappear, when toggled on, they reappear. Once I move my mouse around, the blue circle will show. I have to manually click the Soundcore to enable it.

I've tried some BT diagnostic tools but they're beyond my comprehension. There's stuff in system.log when, also I did the various shift-option-click on the bluetooth status menu. If anyone has a suggestion I'm open ears. Thanks.

    Advice on library reconstruction

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 12:05 PM PDT

I've got an upcoming project in reconstructing my entire music library and I'm looking for some advice on the best setup. Here's a short explanation: current library file is corrupt and I cant find a backup with a non-corrupted version. Don't worry about that too much though, Ive accepted my fate and the library could use some organization anyway. Here's my setup: I've got a rMBP, MBA, and two Mac minis. Mac mini A is a headless setup at the house and is always on. I use that as a Plex server. Currently, my music library is on my rMBP because its portable, I have plenty of space on it, and it preceded the MBA. I'm wondering what the drawbacks and benefits would be if I set up the library on the Mac mini that I use as a Plex server. It would be a pain in the ass to sync devices because the machine is in a cabinet and I hate sync over wifi with a passion. But is there a way I could I set it up so I have access to the full library from all my devices while within the home network? What about outside it? Can I do this with all Apple products or would I have to use a third-party app? I'm not a huge fan of Plex as a music player, that's why I haven't given that idea much thought. Thanks and sorry for rambling!

    Background Resetting (Big Sur)

    Posted: 22 Aug 2021 08:15 AM PDT

I recently (finally) upgraded to Big Sur and set a custom desktop background. For some reason it keeps resetting. The weird thing is I have multiple desktops and sometimes it resets on one desktop, sometimes on both, sometimes the login screen background stays custom and sometimes not. Seems very random. Is there some known cause of this? Thank you!
