Remastered GTA Trilogy titles might arrive on mobile devices soon

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 12:47 AM PDT

For a while now, there have been a lot of rumours floating around regarding remastered versions of the GTA Trilogy that would make their way to mobile devices soon. This comprises GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas, which are three very popular games that have defined an era, being worked on by Rockstar Games. It's hard to ignore these rumours since Rockstar themselves have made certain moves that strongly suggest the same. We might be seeing some confirmation soon if these rumours hold some truth.

Take-Two, the parent company of Rockstar had not too long ago said that they're working on "iterations of previously released titles" during an investor meeting. They have also taken down a bunch of mods for these older games. All of these has fuelled the speculations regarding the remastered versions. While Rockstar hasn't really confirmed anything yet, Kotaku's reliable sources claim that the remastered games will be released on PC, consoles (PS/Xbox), Switch, Stadia and mobile.

3 Quick tl;dr iOS Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 98)

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 09:04 AM PDT

Happy Friday, my friends - and welcome to a new episode of weekly mobile gaming recommendations based on the most interesting games I played last week. Enjoy :)

Support these posts (and YouTube content + development of MiniReview) on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/NimbleThor <3

This episode includes a brand new adventure RPG with a brawl-like combat system, a nice turn-based strategy game, and a weird casual claw machine game about hamsters in space (yes, this is gonna be a great episode, haha).

Disagree with my opinion? Let's have a friendly discussion below.

New to these posts? Check out the first one from 98 weeks ago here.

The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is.

    Let's get to the games:

Botworld Adventure [Game Size: 363 MB] (free)

Genre: RPG / Adventure / Indie - Requires Online Access

    Orientation: Landscape

    Required Attention: Full

tl;dr review: SOFT LAUNCH - ONLY SOME COUNTRIES

Botworld Adventure is a unique adventure RPG with a fun brawl-like combat system and a massive open world full of resources to collect, enemies and bosses to fight, and over 30 distinct bot characters to craft.

Starting at our hometown, the town Mayor provides contracts that often involve dealing with baddies or collecting materials. While we are free to explore the world as we see fit, completing these daily contracts is the fastest way to progress. The goal is to collect resources to craft, level up, and customize our bots while expanding our family boat to unlock new gameplay elements.

During combat, we start by placing three bots anywhere inside a circle and then watch them automatically attack the enemies – a bit like in Auto Chess. Meanwhile, we can launch abilities to help our bots by spending mana that replenishes over time. So although the bots fight automatically, there's constantly something to do and the combat is enjoyable.

Exiting town requires one of three tickets that replenish every 30 minutes, and when exploring, we eventually run out of bot repairs, which forces us to return home. On the bright side, we can fight other player's bots controlled by an AI as much as we want, and we're not forced to participate in PvP to progress in the game.

Botworld Adventure monetizes through a paid version of its PvE-focused battle pass, iAPs for more gold and resources, and incentivized ads to get more contracts and tickets. This means paying players have a pay-to-progress-faster advantage, but it doesn't ruin the free-to-play experience.

There is lots to do in the game and its good sense of humor and colorful art-style gives it a friendly and casual vibe. Although the progression is slightly dragged out, it's a very well-put-together game that is great for 30–60-minute play-sessions.

Griblers [Total Game Size: 93 MB] (free)

    Genre: Strategy / RPG / Turn-based / Single-player - Offline Playable

    Orientation: Landscape

    Required Attention: Some

    tl;dr review:

Griblers is a turn-based offline strategy game that is played on a board game-like world map made up of hexagon tiles full of resources to collect and monsters to beat.

Our home city is located in the middle of the map, and on each turn, we use our three heroes to explore the surrounding areas, one tile at a time. The goal is to complete the entire singleplayer campaign. Collecting the resources scattered around the world and bringing them back home to craft items or upgrade our heroes is a big part of the game and the primary way to grow stronger.

While the game is fun and decently unique, it's also tricky to get into and rather slow-paced – especially in the beginning. For example, it takes a long while before we get to fight our first battle against a monster. A proper tutorial that explains the gameplay and UI elements would do the game well. For those who successfully get into the game, it provides a great adventure strategy RPG experience.

Griblers can be completed entirely for free and monetizes through a premium-edition iAP that costs $0.99 on Android and $1.99 on iOS. Nothing extra is unlocked in the premium version – it's just a way to thank the developer.

Claw Stars [Game Size: 288 MB] (free)

Genre: Arcade / Casual / Cute - Requires Online Access

    Orientation: Portrait

    Required Attention: Little

    tl;dr review:

Claw Stars is a cute casual claw machine game where we play as a space hamster on a mission to rescue pets and rebuild planets.

The primary gameplay loop involves operating a claw connected to our spaceship to collect gold, premium currency, pets, power-ups, and more. The gold earned from the claw machine can then be spent on gradually rebuilding destroyed planets, and when all buildings have been fully upgraded and we've found all pets, we can move on to the next planet to repeat the process.

Where the game truly shines is in its light multiplayer elements that involve stealing pets and gold from friends or random players, or temporarily preventing them from restoring the buildings on their planets. Unfortunately, the friend system that makes this part of the game truly fun requires logging in with Facebook. While it can be frustrating to realize your gold has been stolen, Claw Stars remains a casual game and it's fast to re-gain gold.

The art-style is absolutely adorable and multiple ship and character customizations can even be unlocked or bought as we progress. However, while the gameplay is fun in short bursts, operating the claw machine eventually gets somewhat repetitive. For that reason, it's a game best enjoyed with friends.

Claw Stars monetizes through incentivized ads and iAPs for more claws, premium currency, gold, and a subscription that provides extra claw capacity and fancy cosmetics. Although the claws work as an energy system that limits our play-session length, the overall monetization isn't horrible and there are no forced ads.

Getting an xbox has completely changed mobile gaming for me.

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 12:12 AM PDT

So i bought an xbox few months ago and do a fair bit of traveling so most of the time the xbox is sitting at my house across the country.

But recently i discovered i can play my xbox on my ipad/iphone via remote play from the official xbox app and honestly i am blown away by the performance. I can play my full xbox library with no input lag and the graphics still look amazing all while my xbox is miles away.

Games like Cricket Through The Ages?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 10:51 AM PDT

Hi! Just played Cricket Through The Ages and I love it. Want to find more games like that - with multiplayer, silly physics and simple controls.

I loved Soccer Physics, but it is now gone from the App Store. Any suggestions?

Are there any modern versions of triple town? I know there's a ton of match three games out there, but most seem to lack the puzzle-like intensity of triple town.

    Cards of Terra First Impressions

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 10:58 PM PDT

When I saw the recent release of Cards of Terra, I honestly wasn't expecting much. Card games are a dime a dozen on the App Store and usually quantity overtakes quality with the genre. I decided to still give it a shot since it was a single player experience claiming to be a mixture of solitaire and fantasy. I'm glad I did.

I just wanted to share my thoughts about the game with you all and spread the word about this little gem! I love solitaire games with a twist and this is a solid option to consider! If you've given it a try, please leave your thoughts about the game down below in the comments! Also, what is your favorite solitaire-like game on the App Store? Mine is Solitairica! I'm always looking for new suggestions and discussions! Thanks!

Four Free Games Worth Checking Out

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 01:58 PM PDT

More stuff to add to your queue!

Rune Sword - Puzzle RPG -> Free
Slide rows/columns around and match up icons to fight, heal and grab cash. Just don't line up skulls. Loot after every round to offer new powers or skills. I played for an hour straight and found myself seeing it when I closed my eyes. Good (terrible) sign!

They're Coming: Zombie Defense -> + IAP for ad removal
An ultra graphic side scrolling, slow paced shooter. Kick, shoot and smash an ever increasing hoard of undead. Some wear helmets, some barf toxic spew and all want your brains. Usually I'm not a fan of this kind of thing, bit I have to admit the shooting part of this game while a bit clumsy, is very satisfying. Lots to weapons, skills and gear to unlock. Just got earn enough to stock it.

Random Pyramid Defense: Pixel -> Free + 3 IAP
A mobile sequel from the creators of StarCraft's popular Use Map Random Pyramid Defense. Basically a merging TD-Like with colors and shapes to combine that produce more powerful shapes. Boost skills, change colors (recommended) and destroy timed waves of ever increasing blocks that drop gold. Move the shapes at will to fight bosses. It's smart and hectic without overwhelming you with fast twitch mechanics. I liked this one a lot.

Tower Diver -> Free + 3 IAP for revives and donations A super basic rogue like that has two buttons to choose from. Click through a ton of encounters or loot drops or markets. How deep can you dive? This one is simply a rogue clicker essentially.

    Hope this helps! Enjoy!

And a couple of other weird little recommendations over the past month:

Any good single player games with many achievements to unlock?

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 02:21 AM PDT

I wish some Ps vita games and few others would be ported to IOS

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 01:03 PM PDT

-Soul sacrifice delta. It would work perfectly with touch controls. Its similar to Monster hunter series but it has a story and is very dark.

-Ys memories of Celceta and other Ys games.

-Valkyrie Chronicles 1,2 and 3, though they were psp and pc games but would be great with touch controls.

-Edf games could work well too, but they should have gamepad support or their controls needs a slight tweaking because shooting and running would be difficult.

If i had to pick only one game, it would be Soul sacrifice delta. Its such a waste that many great games would just disappear with the console.

Looking for old old iOS game

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 03:40 PM PDT

It's a conquest/strategy game with a Viking theme I think. It runs on the basics of a new app Ive been seeing called state.io. You have a population at a base that grows and you send that population to an enemy's base to take it over until you own the map. It was so fun and I'd love to find it

Edit: the game is landgrabbers and it unfortunately is no longer available on iOS thank you all
