    Since installing macOS Big Sur 11.5 my 2019 MacBook Pro shuts down entirely when it goes to sleep.

    Has anyone else dealt with this since updating? I've reinstalled macOS twice now and I did an SCM reset as well, but nothing seems to work.

    MacBook battery health at 94% after 4 months?

    My mac's battery health is at 94% and it's just been 4 months of me using it. Although, I do use it for 11-12 hours every day. Is this something i should be concerned about? It's my first mac, so i don't really know much about this. I'm afraid that if it keeps dropping at this pace, I'd have it at 3-4 hours battery life after the next few months.

    M1 MacBook Air drains significant amount of battery when left plugged in to external monitor and left overnight

    Does anyone face the following issue?

    • Leave external monitor plugged into the MacBook overnight
    • But the MacBook is closed in clamshell mode and is sleeping
    • I tested this a few times and it averages a drain of around 21% for 12 hours closed in clamshell mode
    • The only thing I could think of is the external monitor being the culprit. Because if it is not plugged in the usual drain is around 2-3% which seems more reasonable
    • Never faced this issue with my old Intel MacBook

    Does anyone else leave their MacBooks plugged into an external monitor overnight? What were your experiences?

    Note: wasn't sure which flair to pick between Help and Bug but I selected Bug as I don't think this should be intended behavior?

    Open links in different browsers

    Anyone know a shortcut to be able to click a link in an email and force a different browser (to my default one) to load it? My default is Safari but I want to open some links in Chrome.

    Way to resize split-screen windows at the same time?

    I've tried a few different shortcuts and some searching but didn't come across anything so idk if the feature even exists. Can you resize the windows with a single click and drag? I find it annoying that I click and it drags one window but then I still have to resize the other. Not a super big deal, I just thought I'd make sure there isn't a quicker way.

    Left CMD key stopped working? Macbook late-2017

    So, I just woke up a while back to find out that the left CMD key on my 12" MacBook isn't working properly. I have to press it really hard for it to register - the left one works fine however.
    It was literally perfectly fine about 6 hours ago, don't see what could have possibly happened?

    Did Apple Change how it implements HDR fairly recently?

    II have an LG HDR 4K monitor that I use with my mac mini m, connected via hdmi 2.0. I noticed that HDR was switched off on the displays, and the brightness actually dimmed when I enabled it.

    When I tried viewing HDR content on youtube, moving the mouse caused the video portion to turn into a very stange color image--blotches of red, yellow, cyan, white and black. When the mouse isn't moving, it looks like a normal picture, albeit with the extended color palette one expects of hdr.

    I'm pretty sure that my mac used to be able to handle hdr video just fine; but I as I hadn;t been playing any videos or games that took advantage of the extended gamut, I never noticed the change/bug.

    How to reset/rescan the list of default web browsers in MacOS?

    I am on 10.14.6. I have five web browsers installed in my OS; three copies of Firefox, Firefox Developer Edition and Safari.*

    At some the setting for the default web browser found in System Preferences.app > General > Default web browser changed itself to be a different one of the web browsers than I already had selected. I tried to change it back but the browser I use as my main browser is no longer in the dropdown list in the System Preferences app, and two of the other browsers do not appear in the list as well.

    In addition, there is an app appearing in the dropdown list that isn't even a web browser by an stretch of the imagination.

    On top of that, even if I select one of the two web browsers that appears in the list, I don't even get that one consistently being used as the default browser. The OS seems to be choosing based on which web browser was opened last. So, for the time being, I've been restarting my main Firefox installation every time I have to start/restart one of my other browsers.

    So, long story short, my best guess is that some .plist file or whatever stores the list of installed apps that are considered web browsers became corrupted as I was setting up the multiple installations of Firefox and now the OS won't obey the selection and won't re-scan to check or re-build its list.

    Is there any way to manually edit the list or force a re-scan of the /Applications folder?

    *Explanation of "why so many browsers" for anyone who's curious:

    1. Main browser - duded out with add-ons but breaks some big-name sites

    2. "Clean" browser - has minimals add-ons and doesn't break websites. Sometimes it's easier to drag a link of here instead of messing with NoScript in my main browser, which doesn't always fix the loading issues anway.

    3. Youtube Viewer - browser with custom user chrome (CSS) rules applied to the browser to customize it for maximum viewing space and specific add-ons to improve YouTube experience. Intended to be used in conjunction with my projector.

    4. Firefox Developer Edition - self-explanatory

    5. Safari - stock app

    All my Disk free space gone in 5 seconds

    Although I am writing this post from a Mac M1, the catastrophe that titled this post occurred on a Mac Mini Late 2009 with Mac OS X 10.11.6 (El Capitan).

    ​

    Never before I have seen this on any computer. The hard disk was filled in seconds!!! Now, this Mac does not boot. I am scrambling while searching for a safe way to boot it and, if possible, erase all unwanted data that filled the disk.

    Any idea about which programs or system utility is guilty of filling a Hard Disk in this dreadful way?

    Did this happened before to you? How you solve it?

    My MacOS 11.5 update failed

    Is there a fix for this? I'm on MacOS 11.4. I can still navigate to the file through finder, but its almost like the desktop isn't refreshing when I add a new file to it.

    [Mac M1] [Parallels] [Windows 11 ARM] How?

    Sorry if this is not the place to ask for this, but I saw the other day a lot of people reporting they were able to either clean install the W11 preview, or update from the W10 arm preview using Parallels Desktop. I'm getting the "PC must support TPM 2.0" message on both approaches so I'm wondering if there's anything I should do to the config.

    Battery indicator is not working properly (M1 MacBook Air)

    Hey, I bought my M1 MacBook Air 4 days ago and I have a little problem.

    When I'm charging my battery, the indicator isn't updating.

    Here's an example for the problem:

    I charged my MacBook because I needed to go somewhere.

    The battery was on 51% and when it was charging the indicator stopped updating the percentage of the battery.

    After I charged the MacBook and drained some of its battery the batterie's percentage is working fine.

    Everything is good with the status that tells the time left the battery to charge, it's updating normally except the battery percentage status.

    The problem disappear when I restart the MacBook.

    I don't know why this problem is happening with my brand new sealed MacBook and I want to get suggestions from you guys about things I should do.

    Do you think that the problem is caused because I updated to macOS Monterey beta?

    macOS 11.5: Window Server uses >40% CPU when Apple Music Window is open. Anyone else see this behavior?

    On macOS 11.5 on my 2016 MacBook Pro Window server uses ~40% CPU whenever an Apple Music window is displayed. No animations are running, no music playing. With music playing, the little progress indicator updating and the artist & track title scrolling it seems to jump another 5-10%. With the window closed, minimized or Music is hidden it drops to <10%. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the MiniPlayer window, though.

    I didn't notice this with 11.4, but I might have just missed it.

    This seems totally excessive. Does it happen to anyone else?

    How do you do to connect to a SCSI device ?

    I used "Kernsafe ISCSI initiator', but seems it will no longer be compatible with Mac OS.
