    Rocking an M1 Air/16GB/1TB. Running into a frustrating experiencing with Safari however, I generally have about 5-6 tabs open and leave the tabs as I frequent those websites. I often get a Message appear under the address bar "this page is using too much memory" and then has to auto refresh/reload it. Am I missing something here? Now sure why 16GB of ram can't handle a few tabs. I've never really had issues with Safari until experiencing this. A quite reload does the trick, but it's still frustrating. Is this a limitation of Safari? Do I need to try a new browser?

    Any feedback or guidance would be appreciated

    Set Bluetooth Device Type

    Hi there,

    is it possible to set the bluetooth device type the same as in iOS? My soundbar is recognized as headphones which makes the Health app's "Headphone Audio Levels" go crazy.

    On iOS it was introduced in iOS 14 and since macOS Big Sur I can at least see how macOS recognizes my audio devices but I can't find where to correct its type. This must be possible, right?

    So I installed the other day Bitwarden and I was testing it out to fill the password, when I discover that from the moment I click the icon to the popup menu, there's a 2-3 seconds delay, but is instantaneous with the safari's tracker one.

    Why is causing that and is there any fix?

    Is only me or also happens to you?

    Alternatives to Google Drive Stream for El Capitan

    As described in this post, Google Drive Stream has stopped working for El Capitan. My work pretty much requires using Google Drive to keep my codes properly synced, so I've been unable to work from campus because I no longer have access to Google Drive on my Mac. I'm looking for an alternative way to mount the drive so I can access it that 1.) works on El Capitan and 2.) is free. The post I linked suggested a combination of rclone and Fuse, but I have no idea how to set that up, and things like Mountain Duck and Cloud Mounter require OS X 10.12 or later (and the former one isn't free to boot). What is my best option?

    Script for backup to external drive

    Anyone able to offer advice on how to create a script that I can run once a day to backup my user files on macOS (Big Sur on M1) to an external (USB) drive?

    Time Machine seems to be set in its ways and not open to confiuration re scheduling of backups.

    Menu bar changes color from black to white when switching virtual desktops

    So my menu bar changes its color when I switch virtual desktops. On desktop 1, I have black text on a white menu bar. On Desktop 2, it is white text on white menu bar. On desktop 3 and beyond, it is white text on a dark menu bar:

    Not sure whether this is a bug, but the menu bar on Desktop 2 is mostly unreadable. I also tried switching "Allow wallpaper tinting in windows" off, however, this didn't fix the problem. I would prefer to have the same menu bar (like on Desktop 1) on each virtual desktop. Is that possible?

    Custom sounds in Messages sporadically

    I have my M1 MBA set up to get all my texts in Messages, so they appear on both my iPhone and on my Mac when someone texts me. On my phone, I have custom text sounds set for a couple people (husband and mom). Up until today, when a text comes in, I hear the sound I'd expect on my phone (the default sound or the custom sound depending on the person), and on my Mac I'd hear the generic ding sound for everyone.

    This morning something weird happened. I was texting with my mom (who has a custom sound), and the first few texts "dinged" on my Mac, but then my Mac started making the custom Mom Sound out of nowhere. After a few texts like that, it went back to the generic ding.

    1) Why did that happen?

    2) Is there a way to make those custom sounds work every time?

    Mac Mini no longer connecting to external monitor?

    Apologies for how vague this post is, I'm not a tech person at all. As of this morning, fairly new (2 months old) Mac mini doesn't connect to LG external monitor out of nowhere. Hard to tell what's going on—the white light on the Mac mini turns on and off when I power down and up, so it's unlikely that it's that, but the LG is my only other monitor, so if they're not connecting to each other it's hard to figure out what's going on or how to fix it. LG monitor screen is dark; I can navigate to power off, settings etc but nothing in the settings pane seems obvious to me to change.

    I'm pretty sure there was an automatic update to the latest Big Sur on my Mac Mini last night, maybe that's it—I remember late last night there was some blue flashing over the monitor screen (like a wave or something?) and it went dark. I've tried unplugging the HDMI cable and Mac mini cable, powering off and on, everything I can think of.

    These cables are brand new and I honestly do not use this computer very often, so nothing is worn or frayed at all. What gives? Has anyone found a fix or am I just stuck with this? I can use my Macbook Air (my main device) for now, but even if Apple patches in a new update that fixes this in the next few weeks, how would the Mac Mini even update, if it can't connect to anything?

    Big sur Update

    Im trying to update my mac 2018 os Mojave, but when I reach 5gb or 3gb I keep getting an error:

    Installation failed: An error occurred while installing the selected updates

    How to fix this, I already tried going to disk utility and clicking first aid, and another thing I tried is opening app store and clicking on "GET" next to big sur which will open the system preferences anyway.

    Big Sur 11.2.1: Sleep Wake failure in EFI

    Hi,

    I've just received my 16" 2019, i9, 32GB, 2TB macbook pro back from Apple repair following liquid damage. Main logic board (amongst nearly everything else) was replaced and the laptop is back working again. However there does seem to be an issue with sleep/hibernate mode.

    Repro steps: - Lock the screen OR close the lid - Wait approximately 5 minutes (on battery or power) - Open the lid

    Laptop will not wake up from it's sleep/hibernate mode. Have to hold the power down and fully power off and fully restart. Once booted in to MacOS i see the "Sleep wake failure in EFI" error report.

    If I only leave it a few minutes it seems to be ok. Anything 5 minutes and over and I hit the EFI issue. Tried: - Reset NVRAM - Reset PRAM - Reset SMC - Full wipe and restore 11.2.1 - Full wipe and restore Catalina 10.15 - Apple Diagnostics (Full Pass)

    In the meantime i've temporarily fixed it with these three commands: - sudo pmset -a sleep 0 - sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0 - sudo pmset -a disablesleep 1

    But i'm technically turning off the power saving features of the machine here. I'm worried I have a hardware issue that's causing the problem but a lot of people seem to have the same issue for many years with no real fix in sight.

    Apple Repair want the laptop back again and I have received the UPS box to send it back. I didn't have any issues like this before I sent the laptop away so it could be hardware related right?

    Would you send it off or keep it with the software fix in place?

    Windows 10 on iMac late 2009.

    i own an imac late 2009 21.5" - 4gb ram ddr3 - intel core 2 duo - 512gb hdd should i run it fully on windows 10? i have it on a patched macOS mojave when it only supports high sierra, and it has become really slow. would u advise me to remove macOS and install windows on it instead?

    So I am new to macOS (I've used Windows and numerous Linux distros before) and I wanted to fondle with development a bit. I was surprised what a cakewalk it was to get Xcode and a Developer Account. I could download betas and even way old versions. Its amazing, you'd sit a while with Windows for that.

    Gotta say, since I got my MacBook Pro, even though its the 2015 Retina, so it's not that new, I love this machine.

    I don't understand why Siri's voice on iOS and iPadOS is amazingly natural and good to listen to, while Siri on MacOS still has the robots monotone voice. Why can Apple just not use the same Neural Voice engine as on their mobile operating systems? Thinking... 🤔

    using gmail on mac mail app

    im switching from windows to a macbook, which is being shipped. im planning to use the mail app instead of using gmail in the browser.

    so on the mail app it uses folders instead of tags. will the tags i put on emails in gmail appear in folders in the mail app and sync to each other or does it work a different way?

    Big Sur SMB Truenas Kernel Panics

    Hi there,

    I have been been having extensive kernel panics. I am using 10 gbe (imac pro), and big sur; now 11.3 beta 2. I think I have observed lighting this issue when up my network with 3-4 large rsyncs over smb, staging like 25k files total through rsync, and boom kernel panic. Same behavior through the finder. It seems like lots of files may create some sort of pointer in rsync, as the kernel panic logs show rsync as the process that threw the halting error. I'm cleaning like 300-500 MB/s off of a massive nas, so this is kind of weird production case, but this is also a pro machine. Issue does not exist with ssh or afp, though AFP is old tech. Anyone see this?

    I saw Mike Bomich mention this watchdog panic on m1 macs. But maybe iMac Pros too?

    Also, I saw another apple discussion somewhere where someone mentioned it was related the vega drivers... Not sure? Anyone on the developer betas, with knowledge of this fix? It's not on 11.3 beta2

    Big Sur - Finder Columns view always directs to user folder instead of the select folder

    Upgraded to Big Sur a couple of weeks ago and this problem has only appeared since then.

    Currently running Big Sur 11.2.1

    Having a problem when trying to save files on any app e.g. Word, Excel, Chrome etc.
    I click on File > Save As.

    When the Finder window pops up it is set to the Columns view (which is what I want) but when I click on the drop down menu at the top middle of the window and select a folder, it always goes into the root of my user folder. Every time. Any app.

    If I change the view to Icons or List, it functions correctly. I click on folder I want in the drop down menu and it takes me to that folder.

    Has anyone else had this problem and is there a known fix for this?

    I have tried this on Big Sur 11.0.1 and this does not happen but I am not sure if this is because the bug is just not occurring on this Mac or if it is a newly introduced bug.
