Is M1 Macbook Air base 256GB Storage enough for the next 5-7 years? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:00 PM PST Hello everyone, I'm thinking of getting a Macbook Air for my work use. I want a laptop for portability and I'll working on it for graphic and web design purpose. I occasionally work on video editing as well but that's not my highest priority, but it's good to have option to work on it. I'm interested in getting a Macbook Air but I'm not sure if the base variant of 8GB and 256GB will be enough for longer period of time or not. Please note, that I already have a good configuration PC for my work purpose and I've an additional 1TB online storage on Onedrive which I use for backup purpose and can use on MacOS. I want a laptop for portability usage with good performance which can last me for the next 5-7 years. That's where the M1 comes in. Could you please advice on this? I haven't used MacOS much and this will be my first time with Macbook. Thank you. [link] [comments]
No audio with 75hz displayport Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:56 PM PST Hi guys, I have an LG 29UM68-P monitor hooked up to my 2020 MacBook Air with a DisplayPort. I get audio at 60hz refresh rate but once I switch to 75hz, no audio. Anyone got any ideas???? I have searched the web and I cannot find a solution. Strangely enough though, audio works at 75hz if I hook a windows computer up to it. I am using this cable: KabelDirekt – 8K DisplayPort Cable Version 1.4 (VESA Certified, Supports 8K 60Hz, 4K 120Hz, HBR3, DSC, HDR10, DP8K) – 3 feetby KabelDirekt ProductsLearn more: [link] [comments]
Does Anyone use OperaGX on Mac? Posted: 26 Feb 2021 12:03 AM PST So i'm soon to purchase my M1 MacBook Pro. I have a windows desktop that I will continue to use and i'm running OperaGX on my desktop. I can't find rarely any forms about OperaGX on Mac and the overall experience. I have read a couple about bugs but those were months ago. My question is, Is anyone actually using OperaGX on their MacBook? how is the experience? are they any bugs or annoying features that suck on MacBooks? [link] [comments]

Late 2020 M1 Mac air or 2021 M1 Mac air ? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 06:24 PM PST It's finnaly time I get a new laptop. I am actually a windows user and was searching around for another windows replacement. I did some research on the new M1 macs for fun and they are just too good to miss. I mean it CRUSHES ANY windows thin and light laptop, in fact I don't think there's ANY windows laptop thats as thin, has as good battery life, and as good performance as the MacBook Air M1. Oh also forgot to mention price. I'm a student so with an education discount I can pick one up for 1170$ CAD, Thats freaking cheap ! So now that I'm all into macbooks I'm going to buy one. I currently use a Surface Pro 4 that's decent just the battery life sucks on it. I was planning on buying the mac closer to the end of 2021 (September - December) and I realized that the M1 mac airs are late 2020 models. So when will Apple release the 2021 mac airs ? I heard there's a few rumors of a design refresh. I really don't want to miss out on that. My question is When will apple release their 2021 macbook airs and should I even bother waiting for the new 2021 model ? [link] [comments]
Should I be concerned about M1 SSD issues? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 05:08 PM PST I was going to buy this thing tonight, but the recent reports concern me. Thing is, no one really knows if this is an actual issue or not. When will Apple provide an update? [link] [comments]
Universal Microsoft Edge Question Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:27 PM PST Now that the universal version of Edge Stable has been out for a good amount of time for M1 Macs, how are you guys finding it in terms of battery and power efficiency (if you own an M1 machine)? I personally think, and by no means a fact, that it uses the same amount of battery as Safari does. I do use Edge Dev (for VP9 hardware deciding that is not yet supported on Edge Stable or Edge Beta) and I don't notice any faster decline in battery compared to Safari. In terms of CPU usage, it uses maybe a little more than Safari but nothing to be worried about. Safari tends to cache a lot, which will be cleared when RAM is needed (and is perfectly normal/fine) — I find that Safari uses more RAM than edge does as a whole when using the same websites. But again, the caching and how macOS handles that is fine. The only kicker is Netflix as Safari is the sole browser for 1080p playback on the internal display or 4K if 4K monitor is present. Netflix on Edge depends on "widevine," which uses anywhere around 20-40% CPU. Safari on Netflix should allow for more battery life than Edge, at least from what I know. Kind of funny how Edge and Chrome are using the same web engine, but Edge seems to be better at handling system resources. [link] [comments]
How to tick all checks from a checklist? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 07:37 PM PST Sometimes, I need to tick all or untick all, I remember there is a shortcut in Mac like pressing Shirt, etc, but I forgot it. Can anyone help with this? [link] [comments]
Those with excessive wear on your Mac M1, do you have Microsoft Onedrive installed? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:00 PM PST I went from 68TB Read lifetime to 74.8 in less than a day. I have removed Onedrive, and that 74.8 hasn't budged much at all. I realize I am a sample size of one. Just wondering if anyone else sees similar results with the removal. Thanks! 2012 apple macbook not working Posted: 25 Feb 2021 05:29 PM PST hello my friend set me on fire while playing roblox and my game crashed and now my mac book is super slow and now that I reseted it its not fully loading what do I do. [link] [comments]
My first ever macbook and it froze... Posted: 25 Feb 2021 05:22 PM PST Hey guys, so I had a shitty Lenovo laptop that kept crashing and I ultimately decided to buy a Macbook Air M1 and it's a first for me. I enjoy it a lot, the screen is great, it can't be more quiet than it is and the whole thing is nice. What started to worry me though tonight was that I updated my software to 11.2.2 and it all went well until it restarted for its final update completion and it just froze on the startup loading screen. I had to do a force restart and then the loading bar became red, but it did load up and enter the desktop. Everything seems to be working fine now but my OCD has taken a big hit. A brand new computer freezes and in my head I think it's some hardware fault that will surely return to haunt me.... [link] [comments]
Any rumors on the Next Big MacBook Pro? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 05:13 PM PST Forget "MacBook"s and MacBook Airs; I'm only interested in the MacBook Pro. When I try to look up this information, I just get overwhelmed by all the minuscule details I do not care about. What I mean by "the next big thing" in the title is a MacBook (Pro) that is vastly different from the older models, not just mere incremental improvements which is what I feel has been happening the past couple of years (I'm not quite up to date). So think of cars, where a generation exists for ~8 years, and during the generation it may witness "facelifts" or small "refreshment" changes every year or a couple of years before releasing the new generation i.e. "the next big" thing/car/Macbook. Is this the same concept that gets applied with MacBook (again, Pro)? I can think of the 2008 original MacBook Pro which is seen as revolutionary in a sense. And then the 2012-13 with Retina (new thinner design) was the next big thing, which makes it its equivalent. Then you've got the 2016-17 Macbook with Touch Display to also be the equivalent (Touch bar and ID were new). But when's (and what's?) next (again, forget the Air, or the "naked" "MacBook" of 2015-2019, focus on the Pro)? What I expect: Minimum of 256 GB Storage, 5G Internet connectivity, A much better camera than the horrendously terrible and outdated ones we have today, Face ID, A significantly smaller bezel, and just overall updated to match today's times, because even a small phone has all these features nowadays. So I feel like the MacBooks must experience a shift sometime in 2019-2021, but that hasn't happened yet and I don't see any news on it? I own an Early 2015 13" MacBook Pro with Retina, and it's only 128 GB and starting to frustrate me a lot. I will not pay thousands for a new MacBook that I will be using for the next 5-10 years just for it to have a big fat bezel and a maximum of 4G connectivity in 2030 with some 2008 phone camera! Thank you, I appreciate the time you took reading this. [link] [comments]
First ever Mac - Macbook Air M1 Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:40 PM PST Just got my first ever Mac. I want to be able to hook it up to my monitor that is DVI / Displayport. All the USB-C hubs I've been seeing only have HDMI ports. I really like this hub: [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:55 AM PST Hi all, so on Feb 16 I ordered a Macbook Air M1 and it had the ETA of Feb 24-March 3. It's Feb 25 today and the order status is still "processing". Will my order likely be delayed? I need this laptop to do my school work on & it's taking a really long time, I am worried it will be delayed further and impact my studies. [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 01:58 PM PST Hi guys, I have a monitor which connects to my 2020 MacBook Pro. I'm trying to find a keyboard and mouse set to use with my monitor apart from the Apple ones as they are expensive. I've tried the Microsoft brand one and a cheap brand I got from amazon but I've got glitches either from the mouse or keyboard and have difficulties with screenshooting using the keyboard I've bought. Thx guys 🙏🏻 [link] [comments]

Some of the keys are not working on my macbook pro 2015 Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:23 AM PST Soo I recently upgraded SSD on my Macbook Pro early 2015 and few of the keys stopped working. tilde sign, both brackets, equal sign, and up and right arrow key. I used the keyboard viewer to see if the machine even recognizes those keys being pressed but nothing shows up. I did SMC reset and PRAM reset already. got a new keyboard keyboard to see if that would fix it... but nothing. Does anyone know what the problem is? Initially, I thought the keyboard connector was damaged but majority of the keys work on my keyboard. I even tried it by using my original ssd and it still had same problem. [link] [comments]
Anybody here who runs a 27' 4k screen on 'default resolution'? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:02 AM PST Looking for information here. I'm considering buying a 27" 4k monitor and with the way Apple's scaling works, I'd prefer to not put any additional strain on my GPU by choosing a custom resolution. 4k in native is way too small, so I'd be left with the default resolution aka scaled to 200%, "looks like 1080p" - so basically a retina style. Anyone here who runs that resolution? Is the UI unbearably big and how is the general workflow? Any input appreciated [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:00 AM PST I dropped water on my Mac a while ago and it still works but only if I plug it in (it won't turn on without the charger). Is this a battery problem? If I get my battery replaced do you think it would be fixed? Thank you [link] [comments]
Is M1 MacBook swap memory usage an issue? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:25 AM PST I just bought the base model(8/256) MacBook Air. I saw some articles about ssd wear on M1 MacBooks. I am a regular user. I want my MacBook to last for at least 5 years. Should I be worried about the lifespan of the ssd? Or is this issue just a gimmick? Should I return my MacBook? [link] [comments]
Planning to Upgrade the SSD of my Macbook Air 2017 128gb Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:42 AM PST My Choices are either [WD Blue SN550(500gb) or Samsung 970 EVO Plus(250gb)]. Can anyone enlighten me or give me your opinions/suggestions of which of the two is a great value with overall performance and compatibility with my MBA 2017 A1466? Which one do you think would best show consistent remarkable results with read and write speeds? I mostly use my MBA for regular document writings, programming, and video editing. I have decided with these two based on my budget because 970 evo plus(500gb) cost a bit much so Ive gone with only the 250gb variant in comparison with WD's SN550(500gb) price. But what I really care about is if it works well and is very compatible with my macbook air 2017. So can you guys please enlighten with your thoughts and honest opinions to help me decide which of the two should I purchase and upgrade with my device so that I can earn the greatest value out of my money/budget. You can suggest other ssd options as well. Just leave your comments below, thank you! [link] [comments] |
