- Need some guidance for what will probably be a laughable issue for most people here but I'd rather look stupid than do something stupid. Regarding using a WD 1TB SSD Passport with a 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Im standing by until I can get some advice so thanks in advance...
- iPhone XS camera glass broke without being hit anywhere. I have read other forums online as well but how is this possible? This iPhone is 7 months old and always has a case on, used very carefully, what can I do now?

| Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:28 PM PST Hello! I just watched a movie recently when I noticed that the right upper corner of my screen had a subtile but red glow. I turned the brightness to 100% and started Eizo monitor test https://www.eizo.be/monitor-test/ and on the full black screen I noticed that the right half had a red or magenta glow. To catch it with my camera (iPhone XR) I switched off the lights in the room. Look at the pic. It seems that a lot of MBA M1 are affected, there is a thread about it on MacRumors Forums. If you have a MacBook Air M1, could you just check a black screen and tell me if you are affected, too? My return window is closing and I'm trying to figure out if this is a common problem or if I should contact support and get a new Macbook. [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 01 Jan 2021 09:05 PM PST So until recently I have been a Chef and have had little use for a computer other than email which I just used my phone for anyway. Being out of work during the pandemic I sat down and put literal months into building an online portfolio, learning Pages and Notes, and all the things that go along with being computer proficient. I was using my 2012 MacBook Pro (I know, I know) until it finally died on me at the end of November. Since I NEED a computer to find work when the World opens back up I bought the bottom-tier M1 MacBook Air and I'm blown away by the difference. Rather than spend the extra $400 or so on the 1TB ROM I just bought the 256GB internal and planned to buy an external SSD HD to store anything of size on however I've never gone past 15GB on my iCloud for a Mac/iPad/iPhone combo so it wasn't a concern. I went today and bought a WD My Passport SSD 1TB from Best Buy as they had it priced at $140 which has been the best price Ive seen since I started watching (marked down $80 after Christmas) and I've formatted it the way I've been directed to and have saved my first Time Machine back-up. Heres my issue; Im ready to start saving some stuff like pictures and movies that I had on my MacBook Pro but I don't know how I'm supposed to do that. Im a relative whiz with copy and paste shortcuts and I know my way around Finder extremely well but what I can't find is any information on how to do it. Do I just create a folder in the first window of the Hard Drive and start saving to it like I would a Finder Folder? I just don't want to willy-nilly dragging files and such onto the hard drive only to find out its a huge No No and end up corrupting a hard drive I just paid $140 for a paperweight. I'm waiting to hear something from anyone to tell me if treating it like a regular finder folder and copy & paste or if there's some further formatting I need to do to not mess up my time machine saves. | Audio skipping when earbuds are plugged in Posted: 01 Jan 2021 10:27 PM PST I just upgraded from an iPhone 8 to a 12 a couple days ago, and across both models I've been having issues with my phone going crazy when earbuds are plugged in. Siri will activate, music will start playing, all the sort. I've tried 3 different pairs of earbuds, 2 attached with the adapter, 1 of apples newer earbuds models. The 2 that need an adapter to connect to my phone work perfectly fine on my other devices. Any ideas on if this could be software, or just me needing to upgrade my earbuds/connecter again? Everything transferred over from my old phone (iPhone 6s) perfectly, except my phone number won't link to my iMessage or Facetime. It keeps saying waiting for activation when saying read or receive messages. I have restarted my phone, signed out of Apple ID. At first, it was stuck on "Preparing Update", and I had to force restart the phone and re-download the update. | Posted: 01 Jan 2021 09:29 PM PST I have an iPhone XR, I wasn't playing any music but when I swiped down to the control center, the music playback said "recorded" with a few random numbers for a split second before changing back to "not playing". I did not have my screen recording on at all and have no idea why it would say "recorded" and then immediately change back to normal. | iPhone 8 Plus' battery died and is only booting to Apple logo. Posted: 01 Jan 2021 09:02 PM PST I noticed that my iPhone 8 Plus wasn't charging and tried different cables to no success. I thought it could be a software glitch and I restarted my phone. When I tried to restart my phone, the screen would flash the Apple logo, then the circular dial would appear, and the phone would shut back off completely. I have left my phone plugged in for hours and even tried wirelessly charging, also to no success. The phone also will not go into recovery mode, even when it is plugged into my mac. Now that dial doesn't even show up anymore. It just flashes to the apple logo and turns off. I had noticed that my battery health was recommended for servicing so I'm wondering whether this is a case of spontaneous battery failure. Would this be accurate and what would be the next steps? I swapped out the hard drive with another from an earlier mac. Im not sure if it booted correctly, but it did start doing some stuff. Screen was really glitchy though. | iPhone 11 audio failing to work and random restarts Posted: 01 Jan 2021 03:33 PM PST At first, my AirPods failed to connect (after it turned on, my phone's Bluetooth would automatically grey out, similar to the picture attach here). Now, my speakers are constantly disabled too, as indicated by its grayed out button. The only way for me to hear anything is with lightning cable earbuds. After experiencing this, I reset my phone, but the problems continued. At this point, my phone is randomly restarting. Its an iPhone 11 Pro and there's no damage at all to the screen or back display. | Posted: 01 Jan 2021 07:11 PM PST I have been having a lot of issues with my MacBook Pro. Mine has a 2.9 dual core i5, 8 gigs of RAM, and a 512 gig SSD running Big Sur 11.1. My MacBook Pro has been really slow, taking a good minute to boot, and overall system responsiveness is pretty bad. Takes about a good 25 seconds to open a web browser. There's been some issues with Bluetooth and WiFi too. It will randomly disconnect from my WiFi until I turn WiFi off and back on. In the Bluetooth menu, I have to remove some devices and then re-pair them, sometimes I have to restart the whole computer to get a Bluetooth device to pair. Unlocking my Mac with my Apple Watch works for a few times, then doesn't until I restart, but that's not all. I have had it just crash randomly, just giving me the "You need to restart your computer" message with a power icon background (I think that's called a kernel panic?). It doesn't really matter what I'm doing, it will randomly crash. It could be a Word document or a YouTube video, just freezes and restarts. This really can't keep happening, because I'm a highschool sophomore that is stuck in virtual 'learning' and a messed up laptop will only make that worse. What can I do? I there any hope? Every time I open my Mac, it asks me for my passcode and after that it asks me for wifi, which after I select the wifi and enter the password, it gives me an option to do internet recovery. When I select that option it takes me to macOS Utilities, where I have tried to reinstall macOS and it doesn't work. My hard drive name use to be different and now every time I try to reinstall the OS it gives me different hard drive to choose from. I selected the given hard drives to restore my OS and it doesn't work. It gives like -300 time remaining after finishing completion and at the end it says failure to reinstall macOS.
