    My son has a mid 2012 Mac Pro running X Yosmite 10.10.5, he wants to download Garageband but it say he needs osX 11 or higher. Is there an older version of GB he can download or is there a way to get the osX 11. software?

    What to upgrade?

    So my sister has been using an old Macbook(MacBook Pro 13", 2011 early). She recently got a new Macbook for Christmas and she said I could have her old Macbook since I've been wanting to mess with it and upgrade it to give to my mom.

    I've only ever used Windows. I've built PC's, I've fixed Dell and HP laptops, etc. So this is all new territory to me.

    I opened it up and first noticed

    1) the entire body is dented, so I'm sure I could just buy one and replace it easily.

    2) the amount of RAM is only 4gb of DDR3. I'm sure I can't get DDR4 on that motherboard so I was wondering how fast can that motherboard go, and what is its maximum? I was thinking it'll max out at 16gb, but my mom probably would only need 8gb, so if I could get some faster DDR3 RAM modules it would be cool to put in there.

    3) It's an old HDD. An SSD would probably be perfect. As long as the SSD is for laptops, it should be fine to get a regular say, Crucial Mx500 or is there specific models of SSD's that I need to focus on for Macs.

    Thanks for any help! I'm sure some of these parts might be pretty pricey considering the fact the parts are outdated (and they're Mac parts) and I don't mind paying for them as long as it isn't like $1,000 for the chasis, etc.)

    Deleting downloads

    MacBook Air M1 8GB freezing help.

    I got my girlfriend a MacBook Air M1 8Gb for christmas and gave it to her early since I was too excited and she already knew what I was getting her. She's the only one who uses it but she mostly uses it for basic safari use, and for watching Hulu or Netflix. She also plays sims 4 on it which she downloaded off the AppStore from origins. While playing sims or sometimes when watching something the computer will just freeze and restart itself on its own. Help on diagnosing this or help as to what could be causing this ? Thanks.

    Recommended USB hubs for M1 MBP?

    Just purchased my first mac, coming from a Surface Pro 6 I'm already conditioned to having to use dongles but because of the recent issues with peoples Macs bricking with certain hubs does anyone have any experience with these particular ones?

    would this be fine to use the pass-through charging port or better to stick with a dongle that just uses a single port and just use the second port on the mac exclusively for charging?

    Battery management

    I recently bought an M1 Air. I love it! The battery life is insane , but Im curious whether the advice for the previous gen Macbooks is still valid, namely that if you can, you should just leave the charging wire in all the time.

    Or should I let it drain here and there too?

    Hell everyone. I'm hoping you can help me. I need to update my Mac from high Sierra to Catalina so I can download an app I need to finish a project I'm working on. I have a MacBook model A1278, and I just need to get to 10.15.6. Problem is I have that update file downloaded but when I try to open and update it says I need version 10.15. I can't find the base Catalina file anywhere. Can someone help me or direct me on where to find it? Thanks

    Okay.. I have iPhone for some time, till now collected some more things from Apple, iPad, iWatch, TV,... Recently I bought MacBook Air M1 (2020)..

    OMG, what a wonderful experience since first minute and great feeling to complete the family. I wouldn't expect that I'd be so excited by it.

    My 2015 Macbook Pro retina display battery might be officially dead. How do I get a new one?

    For about a year it said replace soon. Now it's saying "replace now" and only stays on when plugged in and won't go above 0%

    how do I get a new one, how much will it cost, can I do it myself, etc.

    Reformatting an external ssd

    I have a sandisk 500gb external ssd, that ran out of storage after putting less than 200 gb on it. I was told that reformatting it may solve the problem, but my old computer was on the fritz so bad I was afraid to. Now that I've finally caved and bought a new computer I'm finally giving it a shot. I think I've figured out the general process, but all these options have me confused so I'm reaching out for advice.

    I'm using this ssd for storing the originals of a massive amount of photos, not a full back up of the computer, and I'm not gonna be using it too often. Should I use the Mac journaled option? And is GUILD partition the right thing for this? All the instructions I've seen are for people actually backing up with time machine or formatting internal storage, I don't want to accidently erase something essential on my new computer or somehow reroute something in the wrong direction, I'm garunteed to find a way to if I don't ask first lol.

    Sidenote, is this "pre filled" ssd storage a common thing that this will fix, or did I buy some virus infested knock off from Amazon thats gonna backfire on me?

    Help ! I have been cleaning the screen of my new MacBook Air M1 for quite a while now . Can’t get to a point where I am completely satisfied. Is it a staingate issue ? Using micro fibre cloth and some water . These streaks keep moving around or are difficult to wipe off.

    Trackpad not working after dropped MacBook Air

    Hello,

    I dropped my closed MacBook air early 2014 from the sofa onto hard wooden floor. Everything works fine apart from trackpad. I can move the cursor as usual, but it does not click. The clicking sound has gone and the feeling of pressing down on the trackpad has gone too, and also laptop doesnt register the click. I can only move the cursor around.

    Any tips/advice please before I look into taking it into a store? Thanks so much in advance

    Any one from data science/analytics stream using the M1 MacBook?

    I have to upgrade my MacBook , my choices are MacBook Pro intel 16Gb or MacBook Pro M1 8Gb. I have been searching for first hand accounts of how M1 handles all the data science tasks such as jupyter notebook, sklearn, tensorflow etc. And from analytics perspective, excel is all I need.

    Looking to buy an M1 Macbook

    Hi peeps... am looking to buy an M1 MBA for everyday use as a university student studying maths. I've always been a windows user but think that this is the right time to switch to a Macbook. However, I haven't made the step yet because I usually crack all the software I use since it can be quite pricey to buy all the software packages.

    How can I be sure that a cracked version of the software will be available on Big Sur ?

    MacBook Pro mid 2015 won’t turn on or charge

    Hello. I have a MacBook Pro mid 2015 Retina and it was working just fine until ten minutes ago. I went to the bathroom and when I came back the MacBook was shut down and now it's not charging and it won't turn on. The battery needed a change (condition was like around 75%) and I was hoping to change it by January. What can I do? Is it dead?

    Cycle Count

    I just got my first ever MBP last week (intel) and I would like to ask some advice from you guys. First, is it normal that my cycle count adds 1 everyday? It's in 14 now. And second, should I update to Big Sur now or just wait some time?
