Posted: 25 Dec 2020 03:27 PM PST I'm currently using a MacBook that my university bought for me when I started my PhD program but I will need to give it back to them when I graduate. I have an older MacBook Pro I bought at the end of 2013, it's a Late 2013 Retina: https://support.apple.com/kb/SP691. It only has 128 GB of storage space and I don't think it will be enough to work after my graduation. I don't know whether I should just sell it as soon as I can, but I'm afraid it might be too late for this. Alternatively, is there any way I might be able to cope for a year or so using this Late 2013 MacBook? I would greatly appreciate any advice you could give me. [link] [comments]  |

I was browsing some... topics... during my alone time on my iPad on Tumblr. I noticed some images/reblogged posts say Access Denied, with a little message underneath saying it's denied and to send tech support my IP address to figure it out. Honestly, my guess is it has to do with a lot of nsfw stuff being purged last year, I've seen a few blogs/shared stuff saying There's Nothing Here, Can't Be Found, etc. but I haven't seen Access Denied yet so I'm kind of worried. I try to avoid the more traditional nsfw sites because they make me uncomfortable (Tumblr doesn't have ads for pills and webcams, y'know?) plus the virus pop up risk, so if there's that risk with Tumblr I'd like to know. Again, sorry for the nsfw topic, not trying to be weird. Just trying to figure out if something's up with my iPad or it's the website. [link] [comments]  |
| Iphone 8 crashed every morning and has a serious charging attitude Posted: 25 Dec 2020 03:02 PM PST Hello, I've updated to iOS 14.3 almost 2 weeks ago and 6 or so days ago I got a "carrier update" pop up, but it was at an inconvenient time so I clicked not now, so the day after I got it again and then pressed update now. Since then, at night while my phone is charging it's like it's "plugged out and in again" because it makes the sound even though nothing is touching the cable and it charges normally. Then in the morning when I unlock my phone it's lagging a bit but the moment I open any app my screen goes black and I get a loading wheel for a couple of seconds and then it's back on the unlocking screen. The moment I want to enter my code or fingerprint it goes black again with the loading wheel and it keeps doing this cycle until I do a forced restart or turn of the phone manually (if I'm quick enough). This has been going on for 4 days, and then I didn't have the lagging or the loading screen anymore. I also didn't need to do any forced restarts as it kind of fixed itself? The problem that has left now is that my phone now still has the "plugged out and in again" issue while charging more than ever. It's not just at night but also if it's plugged in for like 20min, then it stops loading but after a while it reconnects again or I just need to plug it in myself. I really want to get this all fixed, so I want to ask if anybody has any idea if it's the 14.3 software that can be fixed with downloading the new version when it comes out or is there any other solution? | Apple gift cards already redeemed. Posted: 25 Dec 2020 09:11 AM PST So today as a gift I received two apple gift cards from two separate people and when I go to redeem them on my iPhone both were already redeemed. After trying several more times I called the support number on the back of the card. Essentially, Apple was able to confirm that the cards were redeemed by other accounts the day the cards were purchased and activated and the only thing that could be done was mark those accounts as fraud. After doing some research I'm not the only person this has happened to and it's not the first time this has happened. Also, research has shown that the store from which they were purchased from isn't responsible. Does anyone have any advice who either had a similar experience or possibly who may work at apple as to how to go about getting credit for this? How is it that gift cards are this insecure and why should the buyer be responsible for this? Also, I should mention that I was able to obtain the receipts for both cards from the individuals whom I received the cards from. [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 25 Dec 2020 09:40 PM PST So I have a pair of the original AirPods. Not the pros. Sometimes I'll be listening to music and without any warning, they'll switch to a different mode. It sounds sort of like surround sound or something. I've looked all over the internet but have found nothing but information regarding the AirPods Pro. This isn't really a problem but I do find it extremely weird that it'll randomly sound much better than their supposed to and then go back to normal (also without warning). | Inherited 2 macbooks and want to avoid getting lowballed. Posted: 25 Dec 2020 09:09 PM PST Both look almost new. The working machine dates to 2015 and the one in 2 pieces dates to 2016. I have no way to get the Apple account info from the deceased person. I got lucky and guessed the password for the working unit. The estate has been settled and I have no way to find out any more info. I looked around online and used machines like these have an asking price of $450-550. I looked up used parts on eBay and the 2016 model should easily part out at $500-600. My nearest city has an apple store, an authorized repair center and an independent place that specializes in Macs. I would really like to see any family pics or possibly find investment info. I'm wondering if a computer repair expert might give me a fair price. My brother is somewhat techie with Windows machines but has no experience with Macs. | Apple pencil gen 2 will not connect to iPad pro (12.9-inch, 4th gen) Posted: 25 Dec 2020 03:10 PM PST I JUST got this thing for this years Christmas, both the iPad and the pencil are brand new straight out of the box. I've tried everything and oh boy, do I mean everything. The apple pencil does not show up in bluetooth. It has a few times and "connected," only to not work and disconnect in a few seconds. I've tried forgetting it and restarting my ipad, but the iPad doesnt seem to recognize it at all besides the spinning pencil that pops up when I attach it. When it didnt work in the first place, I tried leaving it on for a couple of hours. And it connected! It even showed up on the battery widget. However, despite charging for over 2 hours, it was only at 2%. When I tested it with the little charge it had, it didnt work either. I reset my settings, restarted my ipad (way to many times to count), I even unscrewed the tip a little to see if that had anything to do it. But low and behold, nothing works. Is this an internal thing? Is there something wrong with my ipad or the pencil? Or hell, both? This is boggling my mind right now, please help if you could. [link] [comments]  |

| Camera in use when I’m not using it? Posted: 25 Dec 2020 08:58 PM PST Ive been having this problem for awhile, where my control center shows that my camera is in use or was used recently, would show that camera was used recently. Like my phone would turned off and when I would go and turn it on it would show " Camera, used recently" and this one time I put my phone faced down and it was locked and turned off, and when I picked it up, I saw the green dot that shows your camera is in use and it just disappeared, and like before it would say "Camera used recently". I feel like it might scratch very easily and feel like it's more likely to break if dropped than offer laptops. Maybe someone with experience can weigh in as there's nothing I hate more than bulky cases - and those clear plastic ones on Amazon seem like they scratch easily. So I thought about skins. | Posted: 25 Dec 2020 08:16 PM PST I got my wife a new iPhone for Christmas. I'm unfamiliar with IOS. Before setting up her new phone with a new apple ID (she doesn't know her password) I tried backing up her photos on both her Mac and my PC using ITunes. Some updates need to take place and now her iPhone8 is stuck in boot loop (I think the apple logo stays on screen then turns off for a split second and does it again). We would obviously prefer to keep the data so she can have her pictures on the new phone. Any help would be awesome. [link] [comments]  |

It's showing up in Screen Time logging a lot of activity at odd hours (while I'm sleeping, my MacBook is not plugged in). I did have this issue before, where I discovered a website called groupgreeting.com logging 24 hour days on Screen Time. I deleted all website data on Safari, and that removed it. But I'm concerned what this is. For context:
Is this malware? I don't understand how I could have a malware issue though. That said, I do notice that while my M1 Mac has excellent battery life, it's not quite as long as I anticipated. Not the 14-18 hours many people get, I often have to charge it once a day. [link] [comments]  |

| Magic Keyboard with number pad Posted: 25 Dec 2020 07:44 PM PST I recently picked up a new magic keyboard to use with my MacBook Pro and iMac. I have a late 2009 iMac that cannot be updated to MacOS 12.12.4. From what I understand the keyboard is supposedly functional with MacOS 10.11.6 with the acceptation of a few of the keys, however I can't even get the keyboard to connect via Bluetooth. I can only use the keyboard when it is plugged into the iMac with a lightning cable. Is there any way I could use the keyboard wirelessly? [link] [comments]  |
