My two cents on the whole iPhone 12 vs iPhone X Upgrade. Long post incoming...

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 11:34 AM PDT

(Note: While this is my opinion and we are all entitled to our own, I'll try to be as objective as I can. And yes, I also have an iPhone X - 256GB. The tables are best viewed on a PC)

    Now let's begin:

So the first mistake I see people doing is comparing the 12 series to the 11 series instead of to YOUR phone, which in this case is the iPhone X. This is how people reduce the 12 series to "incremental updates". This is not true. We'll look at the main parts of a phone and see what upgrades, if any have been added. I'll be comparing it to the 12 Pro specifically though some features also apply to the normal 12.

    1.DISPLAY

iPhone X iPhone 12 Pro Benefits to you
5.8" Super Retina 6.1" Super Retina XDR Bigger, brighter, better colours, more room for typing and watching videos
1,000,000:1 contrast ratio 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio Better contrast resolution

    2. BATTERY

iPhone X iPhone 12 Pro Benefits to you
13 hrs video playback 17 hrs video playback Significant battery life improvements. With this metric, the 12 pro lasts 1 hr longer than even the XR(16hrs)
60 hrs audio playback 65 hrs audio playback Significant battery life improvements. With this metric, the 12 pro lasts the same as the XR(65hrs)

    3. CAMERA

    4. PERFORMANCE/STORAGE

iPhone X iPhone 12 Pro Benefits to you
A11 Bionic A14 Bionic I'm not too technical on this but I'm sure a 3 year generational processor leap will unlock noticeable new and upcoming possibilities for your phone - camera wise, gaming, software, battery etc
3GB RAM 6 GB RAM Better app and processes management - like keeping apps open in the background and faster camera operations
256GB Max 512GB Max If you want a higher storage tier, the 12 Pro has an option for double the max storage of the X
    Faster FaceID as well

    5. CONNECTIVITY

iPhone X iPhone 12 Pro Benefits to you
4G, WiFi 5 5G, WiFi 6 While not immediately worthwhile, it will future-proof your phone. Most overlook WiFi 6
    - UWB - U1 Chip Becoming the new standard for faster and more accurate data transfer.
    - MagSafe Again, a new standard that will become rampant in the coming years for accessories, charging.

    6. AUDIO

iPhone X iPhone 12 Pro Benefits to you
Stereo speakers Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Spatial Audio playback Significantly louder, richer and fuller encompassing audio output

    7. DESIGN

Colors - Silver, Space Grey Colors - Pacific Blue, Gold, Graphite, Silver Trust me, it matters to some.

The elephants in the room - 120Hz, USB-C, Notch size

    1. Lack of 120 Hz is a bummer and will allegedly come next year. But then, a new rumour will pop up next year of a new feature that "will come" but then it wont and we'll stay in this addictive waiting state. I wanted 120Hz for sure, but it isn't the only thing I wanted.
    2. USB-C will simply never happen on an iPhone. Portless is the next step if you've been paying attention.
    3. The notch is an interesting scenario. Reducing the notch size by a few mm doesn't change the way you use your phone. The next significant step would be placing the cameras under the glass. This isn't happening anytime soon. Probably late 2022 at the earliest for Apple due to the number of sensors they have in the notch compared to other companies.

These aren't all the specs but the ones I thought are most significant to people. If there are mistakes anywhere, feel free to correct me. The purpose of this post is to put into perspective the upgrades WE get as iPhone X owners, it's not aimed to ostracize anyone who doesn't want to upgrade. It's meant to spur a well-informed and educated discussion and clarify this myth of "incremental upgrades" - this is relative to what one is comparing to. I know, it's a long post. I tried to segment it for easier reading(best viewed on a PC). If any of these features matter to you or you've been having an issue with your iPhone X with regard to any of these...we can see the kind of upgrades we're getting. What are your thoughts? I'd love to hear them.

Isn’t the iPhone X the most iconic notched iPhone

    weird issue with iPhone X

    Posted: 18 Oct 2020 01:46 PM PDT

About 2 days ago, my iphone X started giving me trouble. All of a sudden, the phone freezes when trying to watch/record videos, and I am unable to play anything through the speaker or the phone freezes. It also keeps on restarting itself every couple of minutes. I have tried updating ios, factory resetting the phone, and to no avail. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue as I havent seen anyone online struggle with anything similar.

Who's got the lowest battery %?

    Posted: 17 Oct 2020 06:36 PM PDT

I've read lots of comments from everyone mentioning their battery percentage, but I don't think I've seen any lower than mine...it's currently at 64% and I've had the phone since launch day.

I probably should have gotten the battery replaced a year ago like many of you have, but I ended up buying the battery case for it so it's still holding up quite well! I can get through a typical day fine, unless I'm using the camera for photos/video frequently. At that point the screen brightness will dim and switching between apps has some lag.

I've thought about upgrading to the 12 Pro, but I think I can manage another year with the X and a battery swap.

Anyone else around the 60% range or lower?

It’s time for me to say goodbye to my iPhone X. You’ve proven a loyal soldier, but it’s time to retire. Preordered 2 minutes after 1PM when it started.
