Network Restrictions and AirPlay Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:42 PM PDT I have two TV's (Vizio M-Series) that allow AirPlay and casting. However, I have never been able to get them to allow me to AirPlay on my apartments WiFi network, but on my home network at my parent's house, it allows me to AirPlay. Are there certain network restrictions that may block airplay? [link] [comments] |
iPhone 7 white screen of death Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:46 PM PDT My iPhone recently got stuck on the white apple logo and I've been looking everywhere for a fix and nothing is working. We are taking it to get fixed at the Apple Store soon. Will a phone stuck at the white apple logo be able to be recovered or is all my data gone forever? [link] [comments] |

iCloud photos not appearing on iPad Air 2 Posted: 04 Oct 2020 05:43 PM PDT I had previously setup iCloud photos to my iPad Air 2, but then decided I didn't want iCloud photos linked to my iPad anymore. I clicked "Turn off iCloud photos", but after that all of my photos on the iPad were gone, even the ones that were taken with the iPad. After I clicked on iCloud photos again to turn it back on, none of my photos are loading. I can still see the original photos I took with my iPad when I log into my iCloud, however. Why did the pics I took with my iPad all vanish when I turned off iCloud photos? I thought this would only remove my iPhone photos from the iPad. Why are those iPad pics not appearing again when I enabled iCloud photos for the iPad again? How can I get the iPad pics back onto my iPad? I want my photos which I took with my iPad on my iPad. I don't want any of my iPhone pics on my iPad. I currently have 1Gb of storage on my iPad. My iCloud photos is maxed out at 5Gb. The photos which I took using my iPad are less than 1Gb in storage. Question before changing Apple ID from Gmail to iCloud Posted: 04 Oct 2020 09:19 PM PDT Hello, I know the process, but I have seen some threads online that suggest there might be some issues, so I wanted to clarify before I make any changes. I currently have an apple ID with a gmail account that I want to switch to my icloud account (I am slowly moving away from my gmail account) In Apple ID setting I am reachable at gmail, phone number, and icloud. The apple ID is the gmail address. I know I can not change back once I switch to icloud, that is fine with me. I just want to make sure I am not going to screw up anything since I am in a family account, I am the organizer of that family though. We share storage, music, movies, and stuff so I don't want to mess any of that up. If I change my apple ID following this guide - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202667 Will everything just be the same minus the change in my apple ID? Should I log out before? Will all my purchases still be intact? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 12:28 PM PDT Short version: I'm buying iPhone 12 pro max when it comes out. First time using iPhone. What should I do? Long version: I am in a process of switching from Samsung ecosystem to Apple ecosystem. There's things I like about both of them but both are missing some of my favorite features. Android doesn't have the best chip, battery life, os, apps. Apple doesn't have the best customizations, under display fingerprint sensor, crazy edge to edge display and port. The main reason of me switching to Apple is because android disappoints me too much. My s20+ offers great battery life, display, performance and camera but iPhone does everything at least 20% better. Greater performance, camera and battery life. I started to play a new game called genshin impact. It requires a lot of performance and battery. My s20+ barely runs that game at lowest settings 60fps at 42°C which burns my hands. Even my friend's A12Z is running at the same temperature except his runs max settings 60fps. Every single generation of iPhone beats Android. And I'm sick of siding at the weak side. I'll miss the customized home screen, under display fingerprint sensor and virtual buttons instead of gestures. Is there anything I should be aware or concerned about beside those? Is it a painless transition? [link] [comments] |
Doing a hard wipe of an iMac and not sure how to go about it... Posted: 04 Oct 2020 09:02 PM PDT A good friend of mine has an iMac (most basic 4k model from 2017). It started running slow a few months ago to which I did a deep cleanse, finding some malware and removing it immediately from every facet of the mac it would be in (that I know of). It helped a little but iMac still runs excruciatingly slow for what it should be given the specs. I've scoured the computer up and down and still cannot find the source of the problem. Memory pressure is completely normal, etc, etc, but she still gets rainbow wheel for almost any app that opens. So I've decided to just do a complete wipe and install BUT I'm trying to decide how. Normally I'd use time machine, but I'm afraid that time machine (being a mirror copy essentially) will just carry the problem over to the wiped iMac. Is this the case? Is this avoidable? If not, are there any quintessential folders that I can should copy to a hard drive for a manual backup I'm creating. I.e., keychain type stuff. [link] [comments] |
AirPods keep randomly disconnecting from MacBook Pro 2020 Catalina 10.15.7 Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:51 PM PDT Have tried normal troubleshooting like bluetooth debugging, SMC/PRAM reset, etc. Bluetooth just randomly disconnects and then I have to wait 10-15 seconds before I can reconnect. The Bluetooth Explorer log shows this: updateChainPower error: -3903 2020-10-05 03:45:45 +0000 Apple80211Get(APPLE80211_IOC_BTCOEX_MODE) returned error -3903 updateChainPower error: -3903 2020-10-05 03:45:46 +0000 Handle: 0x0 disconnected, reason: 0x00 2020-10-05 03:45:46 +0000 Handle: 0x0 disconnected, reason: 0x00 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:38 PM PDT Please excuse the crude markup on the pic. I'm looking to understand more about what is going on with the "Custom Files" situation below. I first started noticing greyed-out files when I would go searching for things and eventually narrowed it down to the following situation pictured in the screenshot below: web dialog opens Finder window to select file for upload. Some files appear greyed out. When I click "Options" in the lower left-hand corner, a selector appears that is defaulted to "Custom Files." When I change the selector from "Custom Files" to "All Files", all files appear normally with no files greyed out. I've looked for information on this and have been able to find very little except for a YouTube video that is way over my head and from what I can understand of it does not seem like a practical solution. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttrj01dM9rA I'm tech savvy enough, but not so much to Macs specifically. Can someone please explain to me how this came to be? How these files are getting tagged as "custom"? What that means, and how it can be fixed? Any help appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
iPhone XS No WIFI, Cellular, Blutooth Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:32 PM PDT I used my iPhone XS in the shower for about 5 seconds to decline a spam call. An hour later the touch screen stopped working. I did not charge the phone, I shut it off and opened it up. Inspecting the inside I didn't find any water but I left the phone open to let it air out if there was any for a few hours. Later I put the screen back on and the touch worked again however my WIFI, Cellular, and Blutooth remain unfunctional. I am not sure what part I need to replace. I tried every software fix. Even entered recovery mode and factory reset my phone. I know there are a couple different antennas as well as an IC chip for wifi and bluetooth. Does anybody know any hardware fixes for this? 2011 iMac 27 SSD thermal sensor question Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:25 PM PDT Hey guys... some time back I upgraded the HD in my 2011 iMac 27 to an SSD using the OWC kit ... has run great for years. Recently I opened it up to diagnose some video troubles (if you have this machine you know the ones) and saw that the adhesive on the SSD thermal sensor had come loose and it wasn't stuck to the drive anymore. What sort of adhesive would you recommend to stick it back to the drive? (The sensor in question is the one in this kit). Thanks! [link] [comments] |
iOS 14 No Period or Comma on iPad Keyboard Posted: 04 Oct 2020 08:22 PM PDT Using QWERTY keyboard, naturally, If I switch to QWERTZ the period and comma appear, but then the letters are all in different spots. I've explored all shift options / ABC / #+= / etc. and I assure you there is no period or comma, INSANE! How do you get the normal QWERTY keyboard but with periods and commas ? [link] [comments] |

My Mac Mini is hogging all the bandwidth and my landlord is upset. How do I stop it? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 07:18 PM PDT I have a 2020 Mac Mini running Catalina. I just recently installed it and got all of my data transferred via Migration Assistant. However, it is pulling tremendous amounts of data down in background processes. I fired up Activity Monitor and a process called "nsurlsessiond" has downloaded over 700 megabytes in the last five minutes or so. I got an email from my landlord on Friday saying that they'd had complaints of slow internet around the building and the IT guy had traced the problem to [my computer's network name]. He said it had pulled 35 gigabytes of data on Friday alone. Unfortunately the whole building shares a relatively slow pipe; I've only been able to get a couple dozen MBPS out of my wall connection when I tested it before setting up this computer so I'm honestly a little puzzled how my machine is pulling so much data. But also, what data is it pulling? My best guess is my Photos library, which is over half a terabyte on iCloud. iCloud is already set to "optimize storage." My internal SSD is about half full right now, with that used space being about evenly split between my business Dropbox and various iCloud Drive and Photos data. I would very much like to get my computer to stop hogging all the bandwidth. For now, I am just going to shut it down until I am back in the office tomorrow afternoon, because I won't be in in the morning to deal with it if it is still sucking down data like this, and if it's been going at this pace all weekend I don't see it being about to stop. I'm also puzzled why this problem suddenly picked up on Friday. I didn't just set up the computer; it's been in operation for at least three weeks. Why did it all of a sudden go from not pulling massive quantities of data to pulling data at full throttle seemingly overnight? Short of turning off iCloud Drive, which I really can't do (I need to keep data in sync between this and my laptop), is there any way to at least throttle it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Oct 2020 02:49 PM PDT I'm trying to start up my mac but I'm having some troubles. The progress bar is 100% complete but that's it, it gets stuck there. I followed some instructions like repairing disk and I suppose that went smoothly. I also tried to reinstall macOS but I don't have enough space to do it. Then I restarted the computer but it won't let me past this Apple logo/progress bar screen. Still stuck. Help? [link] [comments] |
iPhone X battery health 86% after 11 months - eligible for warranty replacement? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:12 PM PDT As per the title, the way things are going, my battery health will probably be at 80% within 18 months of ownership. If I make a genius appt, do you think Apple will replace the battery under warranty? Also, my phone intermittently has touch issues where the screen is unresponsive. Is this a common issue among the iPhone X line? As I read something along those lines a while ago. [link] [comments] |
