Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:25 PM PDT What have you guys done to your macbook's to ensure it lasts for more than 4 years. What accessories do you use eg ( keyboard cover, screen cover , cases ) and what have you done to prevent the deterioration of the battery. What are common mistakes that mac users make which can be avoided? Eg : lot of people leave something on the keyboard and shut the laptop which causes a crack in the screen. [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro 2019 won’t turn on (but green camera LED was on?) Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:54 PM PDT This morning I shut off my 2019 MBP and went to the office. Here, I plugged it into USB-C cable directly connected to an LG monitor. I tried to turn the MBP on, but just the green camera LED turned on. The MBP never woke up. Tried resetting the SMC (control-option-shift-power); 10 seconds power key + once again, ... nothing. I also tried connecting to MBPs power brick, without the power supply, nothing. Any ideas? (Battery was charged to about 90%). [link] [comments]
My Macbook Air is restarting during my Zoom meetings Posted: 08 Sep 2020 09:54 PM PDT During (And only during) my Zoom meetings for school, my Mac has randomly restarted THREE times now DURING the meeting. So then of course, I'm kicked out of the meeting and have to rejoin and email my teachers, etc. I have no clue why this is happening. My Mac only restarts on its own during Zoom. After its done restarting, there is a notification/popup that says "Your Mac restarted because of a problem..." And it doesn't say why. I've heard I should update my Mac, but I'm unsure if that's what's affecting it. Someone please help me. [link] [comments]
Macbook on its last legs, what to do? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 03:31 PM PDT I have been having alot of issues with my 2015 15 inch macbook, chargers keep turning yellow and fraying (on my 3rd one now). However recently i got a replacement battery warning and as of now the battery has lasted not more than an hour at most, this is awful for my lectures where there is sometimes no power source. If i had to guess, I think it could last over the next months, but mid November maximum. With that said, i have either 2 options, replace the battery and charger. Or buy an entirely new MacBook. Replacing it will take 2 weeks and I definitely need it during those weeks. But buying a new one lies between the new ARM release and that of the budget i have. So if anyone has advice id love to have it, also on a final note, idk if i truthfully need ARM as i use my macbook mostly for basic photoshop / art / downloading / very basic 3d. I dont think i need the best of the best for that. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro 2020 vs Macbook Air 2020: Keyboard difference? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 08:20 PM PDT Hello! I bought a Macbook pro 2020 in July and I love it. I was issued a Macbook air 2020 last month for work and I also love it. The thing is: the keyboards are different. The MacAir's keyboard is tight, firm, clicky. The MacPro's keyboard is a little "tappy" and clicky. Is this normal? Shouldn't the keyboards be the same? This isn't make-or-break for me for the pro, just thought it was strange. My MacBook is taking forever to deliver! Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:51 AM PDT Okay so, I ordered a MacBook Pro around the 16th of August. It has a set delivery date of today. To my surprise, after almost 3 weeks of waiting, I wake up this morning to find that the poll hasn't shifted from Processing since I purchased it. Does anyone know why it's taking so long? How Does the 2020 MacBook Air Run? 8GB or 16GB? i3 or i5? Posted: 08 Sep 2020 03:55 PM PDT I have a MBP 16" with i9 and 32GB of RAM, but it's a big beast to carry around. Thinking of getting the MBA 2020 as a more portable device. Main uses will be web browsing, email and watching YouTube/Netflix. I will also be using MS Office, including some large Excel files. With the web browsing, I sometimes have upwards of 20 tabs open in Safari and/or Chrome. Thoughts on i3 vs. i5 and 8GB vs. 16GB of RAM? I understand this year's i3 is better than last year's i5. 8GB or RAM seems so very low these days. I was thinking my ideal config would be i5/16GB/256GB (and use "optimize storage"), but I'm looking to buy second hand, and that configuration is pretty rare. If the i3 & 8GB of RAM is sufficient for my basic "portable computer" uses, I may just go for the base model. There are many 8GB models for sale and good prices in mint condition, but I'm nervous 8GB is just too low, particularly when it comes to the Excel. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Fix 2017 Macbook Pro 13" vs Buy 2011 Macbook Pro 13" with mostly same specs Posted: 08 Sep 2020 02:01 PM PDT So my Macbook Pro 13" mid2017 base model melted. The screen and keyboard are completely unusable. It would cost me $800+ dollars to fix my current Macbook according to the repair place. I have found a used Macbook 2011 with the same amount of ram (8GB) and a 2.3Ghz processor. Obviously worse graphics. But only $400. How stark would the difference in performance be? Buying a brand new Macbook isn't really what I want to be doing right now and at 800+ it feels terrible even just paying for repairs. My other option would be to get a brand new Macbook Air 2020 which I'm considering as with the student discount it almost feels okay. I need my Macbook for development(web and mobile) and basic school work. Really just looking for advice on what the most cost effective way to replace my melted Macbook would be, with covid being a thing not having a laptop isn't an option right now in terms of schooling. MacBook Air 2020 Battery Drainage Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:57 AM PDT Fully charged MBA 2020 batter goes from 100 to 93% after less than 10 minutes of web browsing and watching a 10 minute YouTube video. Medium screen brightness with only chrome running. Is this normal? It says the battery's factory capacity is roughly 4400mAh with its current capacity only a few mAh less which seems fine. Is it possible the battery is draining exceptionally fast? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Sep 2020 05:49 AM PDT My 2018 MBP has some battery swelling and I need to have it shipped off to Apple for repair. I've got my time machine backup made and restored it to a spare Macbook I have laying around, no big deal there. Problem: My Windows VM was setup as a bootcamp install and I need to back that up and restore it so I can do what I need to do with Windows in Parallels. Apparently time machine won't backup a bootcamp install. What do I need to do to get bootcamp backed up and moved over to the other MBP while I get this one fixed? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Sep 2020 11:26 AM PDT Hi guys, Looking for a macbook but dont know what is the best for its price. Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:44 AM PDT I have a 2016 Macbook Pro and since May of this year, have been stricken with the Orange/Yellow Discoloration from overheating. It's gone from a little orange spot in the lower right corner to the bottom and side borders and light splotching in the center of the screen. I've had this thing for 4 years and intend to upgrade either way next year when I get a new job. Realistically, how long do I have on this machine if I plan to bleed it dry? I don't intend to go to the Apple Store for a several hundred dollar repair. How long does this machine have? A couple more months, another year? Should I expect strictly failure in the display or also expect the whole machine to die out? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:35 AM PDT Hi there! I have a new MacBook Air 2020 just opened today, and am noticing the battery draining quicker than expected (and the claim of 11 hour battery usage). It has gone from 75%-8% in just four hours, after some casual web browsing, and a few document/application downloads. Is this typical? [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Sep 2020 10:10 AM PDT Early 2011 Macbook Pro (OS High Sierra, v. 10.13.6) has narrow vertical blue lines in certain areas on most programs (see here). It also briefly displays a red screen on startup and shutdown/restart. Otherwise it seems to function well. When I take screenshots and open them on my main computer, the blue lines are gone. See here. Hopefully this helps. [link] [comments]
This might be a stupid question Posted: 08 Sep 2020 09:06 AM PDT This may be a really dumb question so I'm sorry but I'm looking to purchase a MacBook but I have a decent working Chromebook so I'm trying to decide to buy one now or wait to see what people say about the ARM macs. I've heard people saying don't buy the first ARM wait a few years but I'd prefer to buy one this year or early next year. I'm gonna be studying and working from home but I can make do with a Chromebook for a few months so I'm not in a huge rush but my one question that may be stupid is will intel macs still be available to buy from Apple once ARM ones come out? I want to use the student discount so buying from Apple direct would be preferable. I've not been able to find an answer online so far so just thought I'd ask on here. Thanks in advance [link] [comments]
YouTube video saturation going down on Safari Posted: 08 Sep 2020 08:08 AM PDT Hello everyone! Last week I finally got my hands on my first ever MacBook. It's a baseline MacBook Pro 13" 2020 and everything seems to be working fine. The only thing I have noticed is that whenever I watch a video on YouTube (only on Safari) the saturation of the video goes down after a while. It happens after like half a minute, so it's basically at the same time my Touch Bar also dims. Whenever I move my cursor or press a key, the saturation is back to normal. It's not that big of an issue but I would like to get it fixed. Is there some kind of setting that I'm completely missing? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
(2018 MacBook Air) Need help with an issue I can’t find anything about online Posted: 08 Sep 2020 06:39 AM PDT So since school is entirely virtual this year, I've had to do a lot of work on my laptop instead of on paper. For most classes, I download the homework as a .docx file, complete it, and submit it online. The only issue is for certain classes who include images or special characters like equations on their homework documents they don't show up on my laptop. I can tell because a question will start with something like "in the image above" and there will be no image. I'm working through google chrome but the same thing happens in Safari. Does anyone know of a fix? [link] [comments] |
