New MacBook Pro 2020 – 2:44 hour battery life!

New MacBook Pro 2020 – 2:44 hour battery life!

I just upgraded from the 2018 MacBook Pro (which had bad battery life) to the 2020 I7 32GB ram 13" machine. It's nice but after a full night charge the battery's Time Remaining is a whopping 2:44.

More info: there's nothing running and the brightness on the lowest setting (1 notch) and this is before I've transferred any Time Machine stuff. It's a completely fresh machine.

Should we just be forgetting the old days of the 2012 MacBook Pro where it really would last a day?

Is the battery really this bad? If it is, I'm returning it

    MacBook Air 2020 (i5) disappointment

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:38 PM PDT

I recently purchased a MacBook Air 2020, I was very excited to get my new computer! When it arrived I like the way it looked. I have been using it for a couple of days now and am very disappointed I thought a 2020 MacBook would an up-to-date computer. The camera quality is terrible, my computer runs the fans and get hot after doing some simple tasks. I tried playing the Chess game that the computer came installed with and it almost broke my computer, it got pretty hot and froze, I had to restart me Mac... I also wish they would have a touch screen by now and be able to use simple apps you can download on you iPhone! But they don't even have most of those! I love most of my apple products but this MacBook Air was a huge letdown.

just bought apple care with student discount

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 07:12 PM PDT

I live in Canada, purchased my MacBook Pro 13 2020 on July, but didn't purchase the apple care at the time. And it seems the online website only offer apple care discount when you purchase it with MacBook, there is no option to buy the apple care alone with discount. I saw some post saying just call apple support, they will send you a purchase link. So I called apple support, turns out it's true, they just ask me if I am student, no verification, and did some remote diagnostics on my Mac, then I received a link showing apple care discount. That's all, pretty straight forward, would like to know if it helps someone.

I partitioned my disk a while ago, tried to restore to factory settings and now I’m left with 2 separate Macintosh HD disks with 125 gigs on both. I can’t delete or combine the two, any idea how to fix this?

Need help deciding on a Macbook Pro 13" 2020

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:57 PM PDT

    Hello Macbook community,

I'm in the market for a new laptop and I'm almost fully confident in my decision with the new MBP 2020 model. I've never had a Mac before and I've been a windows user my entire life, but I'm open to try MacOS because it looks super user-friendly. I realize that there are better value Windows laptops, but I want a device that lasts me a long time, and from what I've heard, Macbooks have very good longevity. I'm learning programming and web development and I think it would be a good choice for me, but I'm still on the fence.

    MacBook Pro 13inch fans

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 05:26 PM PDT

Ive recently been playing the sims 4 on my laptop (not regularly just occasionally) and when I do I set the fans to about 5200 speed and the temp sits between 70-80 degrees celsius my Mac sits on my desk the whole time and I just wanted to check that this heat/speed won't damage my laptop and if its better just to fully ramp it up or not? Thanks :)

    Life-expectancy of a MacBook Air?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 04:51 PM PDT

    Hello!

I'm currently using a 2015 MacBook Air, and though I haven't been experiencing any issues, I'm wondering how long I could expect the laptop to last? Some sources say 3 years, some say up to 10.

I'm only curious because I've been looking into getting an iPad for digital art instead of using my laptop, and was told my laptop is "getting old" and should be replaced soon anyways.

Besides maybe getting a new battery, does it really make sense to buy a new laptop if my current one, even though a few years old, is working just fine?

    Thanks!

    Need Advice on Purchasing

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 04:46 PM PDT

Hi, I'm a current 1st-year student studying business. I was looking into getting a MacBook Air 2020 16GB and iPad Pro 2020 together (haven't decided the size yet for the iPad). I'm thinking of using them together for school and also browsing. Would this be a good idea or would I be better off getting something faster like the MacBook Pro 16'?

Would getting a MacBook Air and iPad Pro be good enough to last me through 4 years of school?

    Thanks!!

Upgrade Question: Macbook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014 SSD Hard Drive Upgrade?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 04:07 PM PDT

    Hi,
I am wondering if it is possible to upgrade my Macbook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014 SSD Hard Drive?

My SSD HD is currently 250GB, but it says the maximum for this model is 500GB on wikipedia - I am just not sure if it had to be ordered with a 500GB when purchased, or if it is possible for me to upgrade it now to a 500GB SSD?

If it is possible would you recommend bringing it in to a Mac Store to upgrade, or if it possible to do a DIY upgrade? (I have some degree of knowledge with computers - I built my own gaming PC).

    Install new SSD

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 03:06 PM PDT

I have a macbook from 2008, and I'm trying to install a new SSD, but having issues.

When I swap out the drive then boot it up, I get that folder with a question mark at the start. I've tried holding command + r and other buttons when powering on the macbook, but it didnt work, it always just winds up on that ? screen.

How would I go about getting things to work on this new drive? I know I need to install the mac OS on it, but I cant seem to be able to.

    Macbook keyboard replacement program

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 02:11 PM PDT

How hard will they look at the issue, some of my mbp 13'' 2019 keys are sticky sometimes but will then another day work well, will they deny the keyboard replacement if they can't reproduce the issue at the shop. Some of my keys are worning white so would love to replace the top case.

Anyone with MacAir 2018 experienced Service Battery?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 01:26 PM PDT

For the last few days I notice my laptop battery was acting strange as although I had previously charged it all night, the next day my battery percentage is 1% or dead. If I'm not using my laptop, it's always on Sleep mode.

From what I gather from Google, I should bring my laptop in for service but I work from home & don't have a backup one to use 😕 Can anyone please shed a light if there's any other way I can try?

Looking for OS X suggestions for a 2015 rMB

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 01:11 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

I am using a new (to me) 2015 retina MacBook w/Yosemite. I know this MacBook is a popular model so I thought I would see what you guys are running on it!

I work in healthcare and often have 4-5 different health programs running simultaneously, including Parallels so speed/multitasking is key for me. I wanted more compatibility so I initially did a clean install of Mojave but found speed decreased so I don't think I want to even try Catalina. Is anyone running Sierra? Enjoying Mojave? Let me know your favourite!

Raising the temperature to 80-95 °C to get rid of water inside screen

Hello, today I cleaned my macbook screen and some water got inside of it.After a couple of hours I opened it and I found this bright stain in the upper part of my screen.I'm trying to fix it by running an intensive python script so that eventually the water will evaporate due to the temperature raising. Will this process damage my macbook?Because from what I've heard I have to keep this for minimum 12 hours.

Please help me if you can this I never had an issue like this :(

Can't save a folder to external drive?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 11:01 AM PDT

MBP 2019. 1TB external drive with over 600GB free space on it. Trying to copy a folder of .jpg files to the external drive, and dragging and dropping is not an option, for some reason.

Can I just never save anything to this drive because its NTFS formatted? Or is there a workaround for this? Thanks in advance.

    Screensaver crash solved?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 10:51 AM PDT

For the past 5 months my 2019 MacBook Pro 16" has been freezing / crashing quite often. Most of the time (but not always) this has happened right after waking up from the screensaver; you get the rainbow wheel of unfortune, apps don't react to clicking (you might be able to move some windows but that's it), the cooler fans start to rev like nobody's business and eventually the machine shuts down. I have been using the screensaver that shows pics (Classic with Catalina pics). But today I did the unthinkable, changed to the 'Message' screensaver. I also set the saver to start after 1 min (and later after 5 min) so that it goes to the saver a lot during the day. Now 12h later not a single crash. I don't want to say the problem is solved yet, but I'm really hopeful now and possibly try other savers with no pics.

does macbook air 2020, A2179 has LCI?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2020 09:51 AM PDT

i ran in the rain today and had my macbook in my bag, the case got a little wet, and i wanted to know if there's any water damaged in my macbook, i just brought this macbook less than a month ago,

i wanted to know that if i open up the macbook, would there be a liquid contact indicator? or have apple removed that in their newer macbook?

i don't want to go over to genius bar because it's really far away from me and also hard to make a reservation bc of the covid pandemic. and i just want to know if the macbook have came in contact with water significant enough that the LCI lit up.

before making the decision on whag should i do?

so would any of you know if there's a LCI? as well as if it's easy for a first time do-er to open up the macbook to look for LCI if there's one.

i have the tools, but there doesn't seem to be any videos online or forums that mention anything about LCI in macbook air 2020, or how should one properly dissemble them

everything works fine now, but i just want to make sure everything is okay in the long run! hence why i would want to open up the macbook myself and lookout for LCI if they exist in the 2020 macbook!
