When can we expect the iPad Air 2020?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 07:18 AM PDT

I've been resisting the temptation to go out and buy myself an iPad as I've wanted one for ages. However, I know the iPad Air 2020 is due soon, and I know it's going to be a great affordable option. I'd love it to be out before my uni course starts again in mid September as that is why I'm buying one. Is there a possibility it could be out late this year? As in that case I might still look for a second hand iPad Pro 11 inch (2018), or does nobody know?

    Thanks.

Is there anything like this for the iPad Pro? (As don’t like the Logitech solution because I prepare magnets in the back, and the magic keyboard can’t be folded back and is to heavy. (This is Samsung’s new tablet)

Thoughts on both the Logitech Keyboard and Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro 11 after having used both for around a month

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 08:58 AM PDT

TLDR: Going to sell the Logitech keyboard and keep the magic keyboard. I feel that the latter allows the iPad Pro to keep its strengths as a tablet whilst offering some amenities as a light computer replacement.

First purchased the Logitech keyboard because it provided protection and a keyboard in an all-in-one package. It looked like I could use this as a Microsoft Surface-like device. However, I have some issues with it:

    1. It's extremely difficult to use on your lap with its keyboard. It's definitely doable in a tablet format where you bring the keyboard back and use the stand on top of it to form a flat surface, but you'll be trying to balance constantly whilst typing if you choose to do so.

    2. Mouse acceleration: I'm not sure why - perhaps this could be fixed with software - but when you scroll through a web page, stop, and try to go back to scrolling, the acceleration is not halted at 0. Rather, it "pauses" and resumes after you are done looking at a section of a web page. This is extremely annoying, especially when the Magic Keyboard actually halts all movement and only progresses naturally after you go back to scrolling again.

    3. Bulky form when trying to use a tablet: Even though you can use this in landscape mode, trying to read a paper or use it vertically is bulky and hindering.

    4. Most likely software that can be patched, but the '/" button never worked on my keyboard.

In the end, I found that using my iPad Pro this way just made me miss my iPad Mini + Macbook Pro combo. Why sacrifice the good qualities of the iPad that drew me into this device when I'm omitting it and just making it a worse laptop with not as great software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google suite)?

With the Magic Keyboard. here are my issues:

    1. Very awkward for scenarios when you just want to take it out from your backpack and use it immediately as a tablet. You either have to open it up and pry it from the strong magnets, or set it down on the desk and pull it off. Sounds very picky, but again, I personally use this 60/40 laptop/tablet, so I'm consistently running into this scenario.

    2. Possible battery drain? I've seen a lot of posts on this, and it has to do with the backlighting not properly turning off even when the iPad is on standby. Perhaps Apple will fix this in a software issue. Have yet to run into it, but will be very disappointed if/when I do.

    3. Smaller trackpad. Ironically the Apple version of the keyboard has a smaller trackpad, and I definitely notice it. The Logitech one was larger comfortably and allowed me fingers to do gestures without having to notice it. I immediately noticed the difference in using the MK within the first few days. I've adjusted, but wished Apple made it slightly larger.

    4. No function keys. Would've loved to seen some buttons dedicated at least to media control. Having to scroll to the corner and adjust it manually each time is hindering.

In the end, despite the +$140 cost for the Magic Keyboard, I enjoyed my time with this device a lot more than I did with the Logitech. Can definitely see pros to keep the Logitech - just not in my use-case scenario.

Where do you guys keep your Ipad Pencil?

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 04:04 AM PDT

I am having a tough time trying to keep it in the box it came and I don't like to keep it as it is as it rolls down surfaces. Also the Ipad is used for gaming too so can't attach a cover to ipad that holds the pencil.

Does anybody have any of these? They were given out in limited numbers across UK Apple Stores during the 2012 London Olympics.

iPad Pro + Keyboard Tip: If you have a Smart Folio (or a 3rd Party version of it), you can fold the three flaps and then place your iPad + keyboard where the iPad would usually connect to create a palm rest and protect the bottom of the keyboard case.

iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard Expected Battery Life

    Posted: 07 Aug 2020 12:48 AM PDT

Hi guys, just wondering what's is your battery life for the ipad pro with the apple magic keyboard case, I have the 2020 ipad pro 11 and just recently bought the magic keyboard case and was hoping to get better battery life. So far I mainly been using onenote to take notes at university and it's looks like it's using 10-12% battery per hour with WiFi, however when the ipad is at 100% full charge and typing for an hour with onenote and without WiFi only decreases it by 4% or 5% but throughout the day the battery usage drains more to about 10%ish per hour. The issue is without WiFi use on the train (I normally type on the train) it's takes 25% battery in one hour in onenote!. (Also I tested with WiFi on and use apple notes app to take notes and it's uses fairly the same amount as onenote with WiFi on - 10% per hour)

All updated to ios 13.6 and barely used the back lit option. I don't have the idle battery drain issue mentioned in so many online articles

Does this sound more like a faulty keyboard thats need replacing or just software glitch or potentially just a bug in onenote?

Also wondering how's people battery usage with magic keyboard has been? :)

    64gb Club

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 10:10 PM PDT

I know I have a luxury item but honestly cruising the subreddit makes me feel like a second class citizen with a measly 64gb. I personally haven't had issues with it but reading some posts and comments here you'd think it was heresy to have less than 256 in 2020.

I Just wanted to rant a little, chime in if you'd like! I use Procreate mostly, I think that's a default for many.

First Day Hiccups w/ iPad Pro 11

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:00 PM PDT

    Hey folks,

I'm looking for some help after some first day hiccups with my 11' iPad Pro with Logitech crayon and Logitech Folio Pro (no trackpad here in Canada). My goals with the machine was to do some language studies, reading and taking notes and word processing. I'd seen YT videos of the split view and writing functions and they convinced me to go this way. However, I'm having some difficulties and could use some help. 1) crayon vs pencil - I chose the crayon to save money and cause most reviews said it had most features. However I'm curious if the pencil can do the following: erase using the back - manipulate the tab to go home or back. 2) LogitechControl app - mine doesn't do anything. It just stays on the first screen asking me to connect my keyboard even if it is connected. Is something wrong? 3) split view - right now this is most frustrating. My goal was to use an app or site on the left and a note taking app on the right to take notes. However, Busuu and Netflix don't seem to have this function amongst others. Is there a way to know if an app can do split view? Is the default to use safari? 4) Battery monitor - does iPad not have one like the iPhone for the device and all connected accessories? 5) To Do Widget - ToDoist has one but not Microsoft's To Do? Any other todo that list probably on the widget page? 6) International Keyboard like on Macs/PC - so I usually use International keyboard settings on laptops cause I can use punctuations before letters to make accents. On the iPhone this is also simple by using long presses for accent options, however using this keyboard it isn't. Worse, when I toggle to French input my keyboard adopts a weird French layout which is impossible to use. Letters and punctuations move around all over the place! Is this just a Logitech issue or also in Apple keyboards. I could switch to the Apple Folio if multi-language use is simpler.

Sorry for all these questions and thanks for any help and insight. I'm worried my device is gonna become just a media consumption device when I want it to be more. Cheers!
