Looking to buy a MacBook for music production. Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:58 PM PDT I'm looking to buy a MacBook for music production, and I'll be using Logic Pro X. I have never bought a MacBook and have basically no knowledge on computer specs and things like that. I'm not really sure on which one I should go for. I would most likely be buying a second hand computer with a price range of around £700-£850. If anyone has any recommendations or any advice I would be very grateful. [link] [comments]

Selling Macbook Pro 2018 Touchbar Posted: 11 Aug 2020 09:31 PM PDT Hi, I'm trying to sell my 13 inch macbook that I've used for two years. It's in good condition just couple of scratches here and there. I'm trying to sell it with the box, a case, screen protector and camera cover. Wondering what is a good price? What safe websites do you suggest to sell that it on? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Best Budget keyboard and mouse for macbook pro Posted: 11 Aug 2020 09:28 PM PDT I am very used to the macbook pro keyboard layout and trackpad. I'm looking for a keyboard and mouse/mouse pad that work as close to my laptop. I'd get the apple products but they cost a fortune. Any purchasing advice would be helpful. Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 03:22 PM PDT So I've seen a couple of threads about this and I'm like why? Isn't it easier just to install a new update via App Store or a download link or something? [link] [comments]
MBA 2018 126 gigs is super slow Posted: 11 Aug 2020 08:54 PM PDT In fact, if i tan my old 2014 MBA, it would be faster. I have 70 gigs free, what can I do to make it a decent speed again? [link] [comments]

Suggestions for cleaning the inside of my MacBook Pro Posted: 11 Aug 2020 07:18 PM PDT I'm currently doing some upgrades and restoration to my mid-2009 15-inch MacBook Pro to try and keep it going for a few more years. I recently just swapped out my old 4 GB ram for 8 GB, and I plan on installing a new SSD HD, and adding some fresh silver thermal paste as well. Having just only swapped out the memory, this is was probably the first time this MacBook has been opened since the factory. A lot of dust, and I do mean a lot. I used an air can to blow out the fan, which made a big difference in the temperatures which were running at around 75 C, and which are now running between 50 and 60 degrees Celsius on heavy work loads. I'm planning on doing another thorough cleaning with the air cans when I install the SSD and thermal past next week. However I want to make sure to get out as much dust as possible, and was wondering if I were to use one of those gelatin cyber dust things on the fan, or if that would be a bad idea? Not sure if there's any sort of chemical residue on that stuff could cause problems for any of the internal components of the machine, or of the air cans will be enough? Any other suggests on how I can get a good thorough cleaning on the inside of my MacBook Pro would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments]
16 inch for Photoshop + Lightroom RAM recommendation Posted: 11 Aug 2020 03:26 PM PDT I read a lot of spec-threads but my question never got addressed. First of let me say that I am a PC guy but have worked with Macs in the past. My PC has 32 GB of RAM. Normally I have Lightroom + Photoshop + Firefox + Spotify open and it comes really close to 16 GB (on rare occasions it uses more). My university (photography/ design) requires me to buy a MacBook Pro. It has to hold up for at least 3 years. I have the option to buy one from Apple themselves or buy a preconfigured one from a local retailer (I live in Switzerland, so don't recommend sites like Amazon or B&H). My local retailer has a model with:
Should I take it despite only having 16 GB of RAM? I know that Mac OS works with scrap disks but I couldn't find anything online that compared scratch disks to RAM. My options are basically 512 GB SSD + 32 GB RAM or 1 TB SSD + 16 GB RAM. The sole purpose of the 1 TB SSD would be to function as a scrap disk. My Lightroom library and photos are on external drives. My price range is from $1000-13000. Thanks 1. MacBook Air 2020( 10th gen i5, 16 GB ram, 256 SSD): $1199 2. MacBook Pro ( 8th gen i5, 8 GB ram, 256 SSD) : $1199 [link] [comments]
Does anything exist to turn touchbar into physical keys? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:08 PM PDT Some love the touchbar, but I really don't—I don't want to look at the keyboard to know what I'm pressing, and I don't want to accidentally invoke Siri every time my hand is near the top of my keyboard. I know for different keyboard languages you can buy a silicon overlay that sits on top of your keys, with the buttons painted for the different character set. Is there anything like that for the touch bar? So you can physically feel where each key is? [link] [comments]
Is the warranty on my mac gone if i remove the backplate? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 05:36 PM PDT I need to open the backplate as my mac accidentally vacuumed up some crumbs and i fear that might be why with discord video using 20% cpu usage is at 71c on the table with nothing hindering intake and exhaust. Will the warranty still be active if i just remove the plate to clean out the crumbs? [link] [comments]

External Display (Odyssey G7 Monitor) Connection to 2020 Mac Book Pro 16” Posted: 11 Aug 2020 02:38 PM PDT Connecting External Display (Samsung Odyssey G7) to 2020 Macbook Pro 16" hello all, so i am going to college soon and i will be taking my macbook and a monitor. i was looking around trying to find the best way to connect my macbook to my monitor and the obvious way would just be to connect via hdmi and the apple hdmi dongle. however, apple sells a usb-c to display port cord and i was wondering if that would be better performance wise. i know the difference is slight but ive always been told to use dp with my pc because that give the best possible picture and performance. if anyone has insight or thoughts id love to hear them. Posted: 11 Aug 2020 02:32 PM PDT Hi I searched and still haven't been able to get a solution. My 2014 MacBook Air screen isn't turning on. I removed the cover and Fan is consistently running with power in. My screen occasionally does this and usually it works using the shift/control/option buttons but now is not. I also tried control/option/p/r and nothing I tried hooking up to external monitor and nothing I tried disconnecting the battery and plugging it back and nothing I unplugged the lcd screen and plugged it back in and nothing. I tried starting the MacBook without the battery connect and nothing Please I have an assignment due tomorrow [link] [comments]
Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:39 PM PDT This post is in regards to my personal experience, and also my first experience, with a Macbook Pro 16". I do not claim to know everything about gaming on a Macbook, nor am I writing a full guide on how to do so. Hopefully some of you will be able to use my experience to help you in your pursuit of gaming on a Macbook. To begin, this is my first Mac/Macbook ever. I knew going into it that they are not necessarily gaming machines and that it would not be able to max out every AAA title and crush other laptops made specifically for gaming at the same price point. Not surprisingly, my initial assumption and my experience shows this to be true. This does not mean, however, that you cannot game on a Macbook or that you can only play potato games. I am sure you are wondering what the thermals are like when playing some of the more demanding titles at high resolution, as well as performance. I would say that the temps will definitely get up into the mid 80s before the fans kick in, and if you do not allow adequate cooling space (e.g. using it as an actual "lap"top), you may see some thermal throttling issues. My recommendation whether you are gaming in macOS or Bootcamp is to download Macfanscontrol and set your fans to kick in sooner to help cool it down and keep it cool. In Bootcamp, you can also turn down the max processing power in battery settings to 90% to keep it from maxing out and throttling you moreso than just 10% if the temps get out of control. I would also recommend not using a case or keyboard cover as they seem to soak up heat and make it harder for the laptop to cool itself, but I leave that decision up to your personal needs. Lets talk about performance. I am running the base model, least capable i7 5300m 4GB 512GB SSD version of the MBP 16" lineup, so those using the more capable versions may see different results. I tend to max out my graphics regardless of the game Im playing as well. In open world games like Skyrim (which to be fair is a bit dated), I get 60fps in most locations. In games like WoW, it jumps around between 50-60fps. In games like Stardew Valley, does it even matter? The point Im making is, that you can play most games (I prefer Bootcamp since macOS Catalina dropped support for 32-bit applications) as long as you manage your expectations and you are okay with maybe a little less than max settings with 60fps at lower than native resolution (I prefer 2560x1600 myself). I personally game in Bootcamp with Windows 10 build 1909. I use the blue enterprise drivers from bootcampdrivers.com. As mentioned before, I've lowered my max processor state to 90% and use Macfanscontrol with the lowest setting at 60 celsius and the highest at 78 celsius. I have it set to detect the temp from CPU and GPU respectively. I recommend keeping it plugged in while gaming, otherwise you may forget and your battery will drain rather quickly causing the laptop to shut off and losing progress. I have had no issues with this set up. Some recommendations I have for a good gaming experience on the Macbook would be to get a standalone keyboard and mouse. As much as I love the Magic Keyboard and the large trackpad, the former gets warm along with the laptop and the trackpad is not great for gaming because its a trackpad. I personally use the Keychron K4 Mechanical Keyboard (wireless) with Brown switches and a SteelSeries Rival 650 Series wireless mouse, and I feel as if it is a good setup for me personally. If you do not like mechanical keyboards, just find one that has stands so it doesnt lay completely flat. Another optional but beneficial accessory would be a laptop stand. I use a Macally Aluminum Stand in Space Gray. It closely matches the color of my MBP for aesthetic purposes and it allows plenty of cooling room underneath. Last but not least, if you have the same 512GB SSD on the base model that I do, I recommend the Sandisk Extreme SSD for storing your games so you have space for other things internally. I haven't noticed a performance different between the internal and external drive for load times or loading assets in game, but its worth having the space on my internal for macOS apps and photo storage. If there is anything you'd like to ask or suggest to me, feel free to do so. I hope you enjoyed my experience with gaming on Macbook Pro 16". [link] [comments]
Macbook air mid 2013 SSD upgrade? Posted: 11 Aug 2020 01:03 PM PDT Hey guys, I've got a Macbook air mid 2013 that only has 120gb of storage and is pretty much full. I wanted to switch it out for a larger drive, but I found out that Apple used a proprietary connector. I've been doing some research and folks have been recommending a sintech adapter card that the 3rd party M.2 SSD plugs into which then plugs into the motherboard. Does anyone have and tips/experience with this? Will it work/or is there anything I should know before pulling the trigger and purchasing the adapter and M.2 drive for replacement? Apple's official SSDs cost through the roof to purchase. [link] [comments]
Seeking tips: Sluggishness on MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 after upgrading to Catalina Posted: 11 Aug 2020 12:16 PM PDT Hi all! I just helped my partner upgrade her MacBook Pro Retina Late 2013 to Catalina from El Capitan. While certain aspects have improved (interface, dark mode, etc.), she's finding it's running very slow at times. I've checked it out and with my semi-tech knowledge, I can't seem to figure out what might be the culprit. A list of what I've checked to source the sluggishness:
I'm wondering if it might be better for me to downgrade her computer to Mojave or High Sierra, as I've read more reports of speed improvements with this model on those OSes. Is that what's needed? Where else would you start to troubleshoot here? Other ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! [link] [comments]

2016 13’ MBP Replacement Advice (3 Repairs + countless factory resets) Posted: 11 Aug 2020 11:28 AM PDT Need some guidance navigating through on going pattern of repairs on my 2016 13' MBP. Overall, it works decent after it's been repaired and often performance drops back into the gutter. I'm at the crossroads, wondering if I received a defective machine to begin with OR do I just have really bad luck? Repairs done under Apple Protection Plan (3-year) towards machine since purchase date:
Should I continue further and contest with Apple regarding why has my laptop required so many repairs and tests within the 3-year protection plan window? Seeking tips & pointers on how best to approach Apple about having the MacBook replaced if it's been having chronic issues to begin with. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
