| So I finally caved in and bought an Apple TV 4K yesterday Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:31 AM PDT I have to say I'm loving it, I liked my Firestick 4K but I got to say this Apple TV 4K is a massive improvement. The thing I love the most is just how quick and responsive it is. I voice command Siri to load an app or a show or to rewind a couple seconds and it's literally instantaneous. Compared to Alexa, where it takes about 3-5 seconds for what I'm voice commanding to finally happen, that instant result with Siri is so satisfying. The main quip I thought I would have would be with the remote, but after using it I gotta say it's actually not that bad, in fact I actually really like it. Probably my only criticism now is that the remote is a little too simplistic; after using Firestick and Roku remotes for so long I've gotten use to having a lot of buttons on my streaming remotes. However I'm sure the simplistic remote will grow on me as I continue to use it. [link] [comments]  |
| Pre-aTV 4K: Has YouTube become super laggy? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 03:22 AM PDT I have the AppleTV HD version - 1080p, not 4K. Has YouTube suddenly become laggy on most videos? I think they're pushing out the fastest 4K stream and our boxes aren't able to handle it, so it buffers until YT drops stream speeds. Every other channel streams correctly, even Acorn TV, so I'm sure Google's just turning the screws on us. Again. I know - "upgrade your aTV", but with a new box supposedly around the corner, it seems a waste. If I'm correct, is there a way to force YT to max at 1080p? (If I'm not, I'm sure someone will tell me why) Besides this and removing the mobile Phone view, Google's sure making it hard to use YouTube. [link] [comments]  |

| What causes streaming fails on Apple TV only? Posted: 29 Jul 2020 08:12 PM PDT When Netflix won't stream, and just keeps buffering, or Crunchyroll does the same on the Apple TV app, I can open Netflix on the native TV app and it plays perfectly, or open Crunchyroll in a web browser on a Mac Mini connected to the TV and it streams perfectly in the highest quality. What is it about Apple TV that causes these issues with streaming apps where they can't buffer correctly, while the same service works perfectly on the same connection from another device? I've noticed this for years since getting my Apple TV and can't seem to find an explanation anywhere as to why this is. [link] [comments]  |
| Posted: 29 Jul 2020 07:23 PM PDT Hey there so we started having issue with the spectrum TV app the other day randomly. Normally from any TV channel you're watching you can swipe right on the Apple TV remote to bring up the list of channels or you can swipe up from the bottom to access recently watched. Both of these actions were unresponsive for some reason we restarted the app restarted the Apple TV and even re-downloaded the app after deleting it to no avail. I checked my upstairs Apple TV and it seemed to be working fine so I swapped the Apple TVs in the house just because the main TV downstairs is more used and everything seem to be working on the downstairs TV. Now a day later the same issue has arisen in on the second Apple TV that I swapped down is anybody else having any weird issues like this? [link] [comments]  |

Siri search is OK, it's not always transparent about what source it's going to play from if multiple exist. When I'm in an app like HBO Max, if I try and search it loads up a horizontal search interface with a "keyboard," which is just a single line with the letters you can use to create your search terms. I hate "search for text" with a remote interfaces, but this one is one of the worst I've seen. Sometimes the iPhone remote app will let me use the iPhone keyboard to search, but I didn't see that for HBO Max. Are their better ways to search I don't know about? I like their idea of unified search, but the searching experience kinda falls flat for me so far. [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:11 AM PDT Had someone suggest a new hdmi cable so I bought this: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=39477 My picture is MUCH clearer and I'm running it at 4K SDR with content matching and the picture looks great! The issue now is that my icon is showing up as unknown HDMI. As stupid as this sounds, I feel like the over priced Best Buy cables may be the solution. This monoprice cable may not be shielded which is causing an error? *EDIT: Ok I know there are complaints but no solutions. I finally found a helpful post! Here it is with source: I had this issue when I moved and everything had to be redone on my Samsung 8 Series, , my 4K Apple TV listed as "unknown" and it staying that way no matter how many times I reset the TV and Smart Hub. Here is how I fixed it. You can probably do it without resetting anything, but do I recommend fully resetting just in case it fails or gets weird. That way you're not doing the same steps over again. I'm going to break it all down Barney-style, so there's no confusion as I won't be responding to comments most likely. I've included instructions for [Factory Resets] (Set 1.b) and instructions for just [Basic Setup Reset] (Set 1.c). For any reset, it will ONLY reset the Samsung TV. No data loss will occur on the Apple TV. This first set of instructions, Set 1.a, I am going to start with the assumption you just turned on the TV and did NOT reset first. So, after turning your TV on: IT'S VERY IMPORTANT YOU USE THE EXACT KEY LISTED OR YOU WILL NOT GET TO CORRECT MENU. ***** [ARROW KEY] MEANS RING OF ARROW KEYS IN MIDDLE OF STANDARD SAMSUNG TV REMOTE. ***** ENTER MEANS KEY INSIDE CIRCLE OF ARROW KEYS. 1.a Hit TV Remote [Home Key] at bottom of remote. Has a house on it. 2.a [Left Arrow] to the left corner and stop to highlight [Source]. - DON'T enter into full setup menu! 3.a Hit [Up Arrow / Enter] to access [Sources] menu. 4.a [Right Arrow] to highlight the [HDMI Unknown] slot that corresponds to the HDMI source number your Apple TV is plugged into. 5.a Hit [Up Arrow] into the [HDMI Unknown] list menu. There should be three options: Add to Home - (will only be there if you do not have Apple TV Unknown widget pinned to your Smart Hub Home Menu.) Edit Universal Remote 6.a Highlight [Universal Remote] and hit [Enter]. You will be taken to a large white screen that says [Universal Remote Setup] at the top and slots at the bottom with your known HDMI electronics list. (I.e., one says PlayStation 4, the next XBox One, etc. depending on the things that you have plugged in.) 7.a You should already be highlighting the slot that says [New Device]. Hit [Enter] and select it. 8.a. You should be at another menu that now says [Select Device Type] at the top and four new options at the bottom: -Set-top Box -Home Theater System -OTT Box / Game Console -Blu-Ray Player The Apple TV is considered an OTT box. [Arrow Right] to highlight and hit [Enter] to select it. 9.a New menu should be [Select Additional Devices] and you have two possible options: -TV Directly -Via Home Theater System Unless your Apple TV is hooked directly into the speakers of a Home Theater System, highlight and select [TV directly] by hitting [Enter]. I use an HDMI hub and those setups don't count. If you want to use a HTS remote with your Apple TV or if the Apple TV is hooked directly to a HTS, highlight and select [Via Home Theater System] with [Enter]. 10.a Next, in the [Select Brand Menu] for the [Via Home Theater System (HTS) Option] highlight and select the **** brand of the HTS*and hit [Enter]. In the [Select Brand Menu] for the [TV Directly Option] highlight and select the *brand of the OTT Box / Console**** -(Apple, obviously.) 11.a Now in the [ HTS or OTT Box / Game Console Control Test Menu] the system will allow you to test and see if either the Samsung TV remote or your HTS remote will now operate the Apple TV. Follow the prompts for either option. If all goes well, it should now recognize it as an Apple TV and the remotes should work universally. If that didn't work, just right out of the gate when you turn on the TV, you've two options. I would reset everything, but that's me. I like starting from scratch. You could also just start the setup over, which isn't as far as a factory reset would go in terms of data loss, but should accomplish what you're trying to do, see last set of instructions (1.c.) below for [Basic Setup Reset]. If you want to [Factory Reset] you will lose every setting and any apps or media on the Samsung TV!!!! EVERYTHING!* go: 1.b. Hit TV Remote [Home Key] and [Arrow Left] to the far left corner and select [Settings] 2.b. [Arrow Down] highlight and select [Support] with [Enter]. 3.b. [Arrow Down] highlight and select [Reset]. 4.b. Once reset the [Start Setup] menu will launch automatically and you should jump to 1.a, and follow from there the rest of the way. | Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:40 AM PDT Hey all. I hope someone can help me. I've always defended Apple and the Apple TV but this has stumped me and made me quite angry! So my girlfriend bought access to a concert that was being live streamed. I told her not to watch it on her phone because she can use the wonders of technology and watch it on our big TV with Apple TV! Firstly, I tried to AirPlay to our Apple TV 4K.... The screen on my TV kinda flickered black, then went back to the home screen...Weird.. Tried it again, the same happened. I then remembered our Sony TV has AirPlay 2 built in. Result! So we tried that. The concert started playing! She watched it for a few seconds then locked her phone... Screen went blank and now we can't get it back! She's resorted it to watching it on her phone until I can fix it! Annoyingly there's no way of "casting" as this seems to work better Is there anything we can do in the future? I've never had luck with AirPlay but honestly, I try to avoid it at all costs! [link] [comments]  |
