Trackpad on M1 MacBook actually moves a little bit? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 07:01 PM PST I know the trackpad on the most current macs aren't supposed to move at all, but mine has a little bit of give and if you try to click on the very edge near the middle it'll show a little give. It's very very subtle and small but I read it isn't supposed to move at all. Is this something I should be worried about? I just got this Mac a week ago and I don't want to have to return it and get a new one just because of that😂 [link] [comments]

M1 Macbook Air | How much battery life you are getting on an average per charge? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 01:55 PM PST Internet is full of reviews on how awesome is battery life of M1 Macbook. Few even said they are getting 15 - 20 hours of battery life. I have base model ( 8 GB M1 Macbook Air ). I am pretty light user. I use only Chrome ( M1 optimized ) and nothing else. No gaming, no heavy software nothing. I get around ~8 hours of battery life with full charge. I got this Macbook last year ( Dec 25 ) and thought to give it some time ( someone said it takes time to calibrate and battery life will improve eventually ). Now I am thinking if everyone is just exaggerating the battery life they are getting or I got lemon Macbook. Display brightness: 50%. It will be awesome if you guys post average battery life you are getting per charge on M1. Thanks. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Feb 2021 11:30 PM PST Hello everyone, I own a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) model. Recently, I upgraded it to Big Sur. Thus far, it's been working fine. I have been using this laptop for 6-7 years. It's in mint condition. I have a few questions if you don't mind to take the time to answer. It would be really appreciated! (1) My SSD has a storage of 128 GB. What would be the best SSD card to replace it with that has higher storage? And, what cost range am I looking at? (2) When will this model become obsolete? Will Big Sur be the last macOS operating system for this model (A1502)? Is it safe to use after it becomes obsolete even with no future software updates? (3) I've opened the Macbook Pro to replace the old termal paste with a new one (Corsair TM30). Which one would you suggest for future use? How often does it need to be replaced? (4) Any apps that are suggested to make the machine run as smoothly as possible? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Feb 2021 11:04 PM PST Hey guys, I was wondering if I can connect 3 monitors to a Macbook Pro 13 inch (2019 version). Had a look on internet and seems like you can only mirror the display rather than extend. If I can, how can I do so? [link] [comments]

Anyone upgrading to M1 Macbook after getting an iPad... is Sidecar improved, drawing-wise? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 07:55 AM PST I saw a video a while back about drawing with Sidecar and the results were less than satisfactory. Mostly stuff like drawing consistency wasn't great in sidecar, especially (of course) compared to drawing in a native iPad app or with a Cintiq on the Mac. The M1 Macs probably have better software/hardware integration with the encoding that's inherent to using sidecar, so I was just curious if anyone who draws has upgrade their Mac to an M1 model and if that's improved things with how sidecar manages Cintiq-alike duties. I can find info on drawing with sidecar, and on M1 with sidecar, but I haven't found any info on how drawing is like with M1 on sidecar. It's a bit of a niche request, I'll admit. What if my MacBook Air M1 SSD fails in 2 years? Is it a brick then since not able to replace? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 07:46 PM PST This is my primary concern. I know SSDs last longer than standard NORMALLY...but what if you get a lemon or a poor quality one? [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 06:01 PM PST Hello! I've been out of the Mac game for awhile. I have a pretty beefy PC setup and a Razor Blade I normally use but I was wanting to snag a Mac again to learn coding/publishing apps on iOS. I ordered a 512GB MBA (surprisingly the 256GB one has 7 GPU cores so I didn't bother with that). I have been playing with it for a few days but I really want to future proof myself. I mainly bought the low end one so I could see if I would like it. I've used it through the weekend and may decide to return it and get a larger model. I have had Unity, Xcode, and WoW running which surprisingly takes up almost the full 8GB (along with some other add-ins). I of course could close a bunch of stuff but I am not too concerned with the extra few hundred all around. My question is: Between the MBA and MBP which really is the better purchase? I saw some memes about fan/heat but I believe that was specifically aimed at Intel and not the M1-based MBP. I want something that won't thermal throttle and based on people's reviews it looks like when running WoW for more than 30 minutes it heats up and starts throttling so FPS can drop from 50-60fps down to around 15-20 which I would prefer not. I understand that's an outlier situation anyway and under normal workloads that wouldn't happen anyway. It seems like outside of the thermal throttling that can happen there's nothing different as far as screen/resolution anyway on the MBP M1. Would probably max it out with a BTO 2TB/16GB setup. One big fix from Big Sur 11.2, no more constant charge chimes (and negotiation). Posted: 07 Feb 2021 02:26 PM PST One nice fix I noticed with 11.2 that I haven't seen mentioned. It put an end to the constant re-negotation when my M1 was full using a non-Apple charger. When using my Aukey 100W charger my M1 Air would repeatedly cycle between drain and charge and chime over and over and over. Even though Aukey said it was "fixed" with this updated model charger, it wasn't. Whatever Apple added to 11.2, no more cycling and no more chime. Of course now I don't know when to take it out of the oven... 🤣 [link] [comments]
2017 MacBook Pro 13” Keys Alternative Posted: 07 Feb 2021 12:44 PM PST Hello all, I own a 2017 MacBook Pro 13" and have had it for almost three years now and a problem that has been bothering me for some time now are the awful butterfly keys. I think there's barely any space between the key and the mechanism underneath it. They become sticky and jam so easily even when I try to type gently. I'm aware I'm able to remove the keys to clean whatever dust or debris got underneath it. But I've been doing it way to often than I'd like even when I have a keyboard skin on it. Because there's barely any space between the key and what's underneath, I was wondering if there is such a thing as elevated keys that would be compatible with a MacBook. I've owned laptops that had more elevated keys for longer than I had a MacBook and I've never had a sticky keys problem. So if anyone knows any elevated keys compatible with a MacBook (or if they even exist) it would be much appreciated. [link] [comments]

How to diagnose a dead 2011 MacBook Pro? Posted: 07 Feb 2021 10:10 AM PST I planned to hit a decade on my trusty 2011 MacBook Pro. However, she had other plans - and dropped dead at Christmas. Now I'm on an M1 MacBook Pro and things are great. However, I'd like to salvage data, fix up the 2011, and hand her on to a new owner. She's got 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD + 1TB spinner. Honestly, she was fine for 20-30 Chrome tabs before she gave way. One day I tried to turn her on and nothing. Battery light still glows, but there is total silence when I press the power button. I've got the full screwdriver toolkit and have previously replaced a few parts myself (eg. trackpad and a hard drive in the optical bay). I switched-in a third party battery about six months ago (with good Amazon reviews. Where should I start? Thanks [link] [comments]
Buying advice needed - Macbook Air M1 Posted: 07 Feb 2021 04:01 AM PST I am thinking about buying Macbook Air M1 for quite some time, because of all the positive reviews and greatness I see about it, but there are things that keeps me worrying and I would like to know from your experience with it: 1) Will the performance not drop significantly / too fast if using for extended periods of time? I usually have my laptop on 6-16 hours a day 365 days a year. Most of this time (80-90%) is used on non demanding things (web browser with many tabs, 1-2 non demanding work programs..., Spotify, watching something). And 10-20% more demanding like blender, or tinkering with databases. As it is having no fans I am worried that in no time it would get overwhelmed just by simple tasks. Do you think Pro M1 is more suitable for this sole reason? 2) Configuration (Base 8GB+256 / 16GB+1000) or even Pro? I am keeping my windows laptop because of some exclusive work Microsoft programs I need to use from time to time (when some specific use case comes) and it's resale value is bleh as it has some problems already. I am wondering whether I should aim for base model and use it that 80% of the time. And that 20% of the time keep using my Windows or get 16GB RAM and use it all the time (connected to 1) ) [link] [comments]
Finding for a unity friendly Macbook pro or air model for unity mobile 3d development Posted: 07 Feb 2021 09:46 AM PST Hello there, I am targeting for mobile 3D games in Unity, so in need of a Macbook Pro or Air. I'm in need of a detailed advice. Currently I'm using ubuntu, lots of issues there, turning on "linear" color space darkens out the editor and feels like broken, can't get different render pipelines work properly. So I am asking for advice for a Apple Laptop (Mac mini/ Macbook Air/ Macbook Pro/ Macbook) model where I will not have such depressing problems. [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 07:34 AM PST Good morning! Curious issue I'm running into: I setup a new desk space for work, and in doing so opted to run a USB-C hub underneath (powered), so I can have a single cord connecting my computer to my external monitor and peripherals. The setup works as expected with my windows-based machine (ThinkPad), but when I swap my '20 MBP (Intel) out, I only get my external display and charging capabilities--the USB-A dongles for both my mouse and keyboard are not being recognized. When I plug the dongles directly into the onboard USB-C ports (using an A-to-C adapter), they work perfectly, and function as one would expect. Any thoughts on what's up? Do I need to make the macbook recognize the peripherals that are plugged in via the hub somehow? For reference, this is the hub I'm running: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082WT3FL4/ [link] [comments] |
