Apple Macbook Zoom YouTube to full screen

Apple Macbook Zoom YouTube to full screen

    Zoom YouTube to full screen

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:43 PM PDT

Since we all have 16:10 displays, the widely used 16:9 ratio videos on YouTube will always have letter-boxing at the top and bottom. But I found a nice script that gets rid of that, something like zooming in for YouTube on phones so that it fills the whole screen and makes for a better experience.

    1. Install Tampermonkey browser extension (works with most browsers, Safari included)
    2. Click the green button here to install the script

And that's it! By default the keyboard shortcut to toggle the zoom is the Z key.

And by the way, for videos stored on your Mac itself, you can use VLC and press C to cycle through the crops (press once for 16:10, and press ten more times to go back to uncropped)

Will the upgrade to ARM processors affect the ability to run certain applications?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 06:53 PM PDT

I'm interested in buying the new 16 inch ARM Macbook Pro when it is released, but I also use specialized software like Avid Pro Tools.

Will Avid (for example) need to manually release an update in order for their software to run on the new setup? I wouldn't want to wait and buy it only to find out it isn't "backwards compatible".

I also heard that Bootcamp will no longer be possible. Is this true? Or will apple be able to reintroduce it?

Apologies if these are ignorant questions, I just couldn't find any answers online.

    Thank you!

(For any audio folks out there, I'm also very concerned about all my audio plugins becoming unusable. I don't expect every company will immediately update their software)

Deciding on a laptop for university; computer science.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:18 PM PDT

I'd be perfectly okay with using an iPad since I have a desktop computer, but the light programming that I may be doing in lectures and tutorials isn't feasible on the iPad, so I'm looking for a decent laptop that'll last 5 years.

I was thinking either the Dell XPS 13/15 or the MBP 13/16. With light programming involved, mostly note taking, and probably a bit more intense programming in the later years, what specs should I be getting on the 13 MBP? Is the 10th gen 2.3GHz overkill? Why should I get that over the XPS 13 with 4K display and a touch screen? If for some reason the base 13s aren't enough, is a base 16" MBP too much?

I'd be looking for at least 512Gb SSD and preferably 16Gb of ram. Around 200$ increase for a better feature is fine, but if it's not needed then that's alright. Canadian pricing as well. Thanks!

Macbook pro keeps typin g period key cosntantly? How to fix?

    I need purchasing advice:

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 06:55 PM PDT

Hello all! First time posting here. My girlfriend and I are in the market for two MacBook pros. She will be using hers to create marketing advertisements and edit her photography, Mainly using adobe creative suite and final cut. I will be using mine in an attempt to learn how to make music with Logic Pro/Pro tools/FL studio, as well as photo/video editing. The problem is, with apple deserting the intel chips we are not sure if we should make a purchase. We are also unsure on which year to purchase. I would like to invest in the 2020 13' base trim of the pro for the both of us. I understand that this is extremely pricey for us, but I argue that we would have the newest most up to date model before the transition, and the transition won't be complete until possibly a few years down the line, which our 2020's would hold up for, + we save ourselves the headache of possibly running into an issue where we feel like we need more "power" from our computers. The first models with the apple chip might have issues as well. she would like to find two older models to save money, (2014-2017) arguing that we can use them for 2-3 years, resale and upgrade to the newer models with the apple chip right after. Both of us have never owned MacBooks. Does anyone have advice for us? Any information/insight regarding the new apple chips vs the current intel chips moving forward is also appreciated!

    Safari on Macbook Air

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:15 PM PDT

Hello everyone! I recently purchased a macbook air and noticed it can get pretty hot while streaming on Google Chrome (understandably) . The reason I use google chrome is because of the ad block extension. I tried to use ad block on safari from the app store but it slowed EVERYTHING down so much. Is there an alternative for safari that people use, or, what to most people use here?

    New Mac lagging hard

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:43 PM PDT

I got a new MacBook Air a couple of days ago and downloaded GIMP right away. Everything worked really finde, until GIMP decided not to open any more Projects. If I open the program anything still is alright, but the moment I click open a file...I can either see the layers on the right and a black screen in the middle or a transparent image in the middle. Can't select any tool either. Even tried waiting minutes...nothing happens.

    MBA i3 or i5

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 06:13 PM PDT

    Hi,

I'm looking to buy an MBA 2020 with the education deal including the free airpods. I'm on a tight budget so I would like to know if the upgrade from the base i3 8gb to the i5 is worth the £100? I'm going to keep this laptop for about 4 years, and am going to be doing pretty basics tasks such as using ms office, chrome, streaming my gaming consoles into the laptop, streaming videos. I may use a bit of Xcode but not regularly and it's not a necessity.

    Thanks,

I'm new here and I really don't know if this was discussed before. I am planning to buy Macbook air to use for my work as an accountant.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:11 AM PDT

I've been using windows for all my life and still good using them. I'm just looking for new and I would like to know if you would recommend on switching from Windows to Macbook Air when basically what I will do are Microsoft excel stuff, email, Chrome, etc. and not too much on other softwares. So to those who switched, what's your recommendations.

Can I buy older versions of Macbook but new (not used or refurbished)?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:49 PM PDT

Obviously veryyyy new to the apple world. I'm planning to buy an older model of macbook for my sister who goes to college Macbook air 2015, and a Macbook air 2019 for myself for work. I would want to buy both new. Not used or refurbished. Is this even possible? And what are some good online sources to buy them from (US)?

(I'm not in US, I am going to use drop and ship).

    Thanks.

    MacBook Recommendations?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 02:29 PM PDT

Hello I want to get a MacBook but I'm unsure which one and which configuration to get. I want to be able to use it with parallels so I can use windows on it for virtual machines and things like that. I also want to use it for school and daily tasks. Also use sidecar with my iPad. I am very indecisive and cannot figure out which will be best and powerful enough to handle my cyber security work load with different CPU intensive programs.

Why do new MacBooks only have 1.4GHz?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:38 PM PDT

My current MacBook Pro is a 2012 i7 with 8GB RAM and 2.9GHz dual-core, and I'm looking to upgrade it due to its age. Part of the reason why I've delayed upgrading for so long is because the newest Macbook Pros available from Apple have all had notably lower clock speeds...right now the ones available on their website have 1.4GHz and 2.0GHz, with Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz and 4.5GHz, respectively. Yes the processors are quad-core instead of dual-core, and they are 8th gen, but does that really mean it will generally run smoother and last longer than my current MacBook? Assuming of course I get the same i7 and 8GB RAM. Due to such paltry 2.0GHz being the highest available without the Turbo Boost, I've even considered getting a Mac Mini desktop instead, which has a 3.6GHz minimum speed (a big upgrade for me). Will the 1.4GHz with 3.9GHz Turbo Boost really be more efficient than my 2.9GHz? I just don't see it, but then again I'm not sure how often the Turbo Boost kicks in.

Advice: Macbook Pro vs Ipad Pro with magic keyboard and apple pencil

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:00 PM PDT

Going into my sophomore year of college and I am trying to decide between an IPad Pro with accessories aforementioned. I previously had a 2015 Macbook Pro and loved it until it broke. I am a political science and international affairs major so I don't necessarily have to run any crazy or intense software besides basic proctoring (and maybe Spanish) software due to online courses. I really would just need it for note-taking and writing papers as well as entertainment usage like youtube, Reddit, other social stuff. I really think that being able to scan documents and having all my notes on one device would be awesome for my workflow but the fear of having to work around certain obstacles like downloading specific software for nonpoli sci and international affairs courses scares me. Any advice?

    Display Issue

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 02:09 AM PDT

When I start up my MacBook Pro, for some reason it only displays a black screen even though it makes the classic startup sound. Furthermore, if I use an hdmi cable to attach it to the tv it displays normally there. Can anyone give me tips on what I ought to do to fix this?
