What Macbook is this? Doesn't say "Pro" nor "Air" in the display bezel but the keyboard is not "Macbook" full body size

AIR OR PRO? Help me out.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 07:58 PM PDT

Hey, I'm an upcoming law student. I also do photography on the side and I plan to be a light YouTuber. I plan to use programs like Lightroom, Photoshop, Final Cut & stuff like that. My budget is $1000 the highest.

I'm intrigued by the new 2020 MacBook Keyboard, but people have spoken about the heating issues. My other options are MBP, (2017-2019). Getting the 2020 is out of the question, 1300$ is too much. What would you suggest ??

Bought Macbook Pro 13" 2 weeks ago.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:36 PM PDT

    I bought the MacBook Pro 13" two weeks ago for $3299AUD;

It has an eight gen processor, yada yada.

Recently they released the 2020 version with the new keyboard and 10th Gen processor, and their selling it at $2999AUD on the Apple website?

Can I return it and get the newer (CHEAPER) model with better specs?

I figured it'd work like phones do, where the new release will sell at a MUCH higher price than the older version. At the moment it feels like I paid more, for a lower spec macbook.

My MacBook isn't appearing on my phone for airdrop

    Posted: 06 May 2020 08:13 PM PDT

Hello I usually transfer specific videos & photos via airdrop with my iPhone. But today I noticed that my MacBook wasn't appearing on the list of airdrops on my phone, though on the MacBook I can see my phone on there. From the MacBook I can send vids/pics to my phone. I've looked online for solutions which have said to shut down MacBook and turn back on, turn on off wifi & bluetooth. MacBook is on latest update too. These have not worked I don't know if I am doing something wrong. If someone can give me an idea to what to do to resolve this it would be appreciated.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 01:42 PM PDT

I am wanting a larger screen and more ram / storage for my daily needs. I am current running a 2.9/8GB/256GB base 13' and was thinking about upgrading to the 2.8/26GB/512GB 15'in for $1400.

Is it worth it at this price point?

Does it matter if you connect everything to one port?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 01:27 PM PDT

    Might be a dumb question.

I have a OWC thunderbolt 3 dock that I have two monitors, a keyboard and mouse connected to.

I connect this to my macbook pro with one cable. Does it make a difference performance wise doing it this way vs connecting one of the monitors directly to one of the other usb cports on the mac book pro

2020 13" Macbook Pro with Logic & Final Cut

    Posted: 06 May 2020 04:32 PM PDT

I am strongly considering buying the new 2020 MBP, however I am concerned with how well it will handle heavy Logic Pro and Final Cut use. I'm looking at purchasing the $1,799 model with the 10th gen i5 processor and 16gb memory. Will that be enough computer to handle pro apps with ease? I can't decide if I should pull the trigger on this one, or wait to see if they release another (14"?) model with more upgrades in the next few months. Any opinions would be great!

How to connect external monitor to MacBook Pro?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 04:28 PM PDT

Hi guys! I need help connecting an external Dell monitor to my MacBook Pro (late 2015 model).

What type of cables/cords do I need for this?

Initially I ordered a HDMI to DVI Cable but I'm not sure if that's the correct cable.

The first picture are the ports from the Dell monitor and the other two pics are the ports on my MacBook.

How do I know if I got the right MacBook?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 04:14 PM PDT

So I had to go to Staples like 4 fkn times today cuz the people working flagged my card or something cuz I tried to give them my dads card information (I just got my first credit card and my limit is only $500 so I had to pay my dad to buy it for me) so I assumed they thought I was using a stolen credit card or whatever but my question is on the MacBook Air package it says nothing about what year it is or anything I can use to identify the year. I wouldn't be surprised if the people working gave me the wrong Mac just because of all the confusion but how do I figure out that I do indeed have a 2020 Base MacBook Air? The package doesn't say anything about a 10 gen intel core which is what I would use to identify one.

    Is the Macbook Pro 2015 13" good ? And iPhone 7 ?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 03:44 PM PDT

    Hi.

I'm looking to buy my first Macbook. I have about 500 / 600 euros.

I was wondering if an used Macbook Pro 2015 13" with an i5 @ 2.7 Ghz, 8 Go ram and 128 Go SSD is a good choice. Is it a safe buy ? Does this model have any problems ?

At the same time, I want to buy an iPhone with max 200 euros. Is the iPhone 7 a good choice ? How long will it be supported and how long will it have major ios updates ?

    Thanks !

2020 Air vs Pro for Graduate School

    Posted: 06 May 2020 01:48 PM PDT

Like many other people, I am having trouble deciding whether to purchase the new MacBook Air or Pro, both 13". I would be upgrading from a base 2017 13" MacBook Pro without Touch Bar. The configuration I am considering for either MacBook would be the i5 processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB storage. I am leaning towards the Air, since it is a couple hundred dollars cheaper, but I am concerned about the cooling issues. Also, how much of a difference will the processors make, since the Pro has an 8th gen processor compared to the 10th gen in the Air?

I am starting graduate school in the fall in a STEM field, where I will be expected to learn some light coding using R Studio. Would the Air be sufficient for that? All my other needs would be light, daily things like browsing Safari, YouTube, Twitch, and Microsoft Office. I do not need it to run any games. Thanks for your help!

    Safe sleep?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 01:31 PM PDT

I own the 2020 Macbook Air and often I have to press the power button to wake it up. Apple says this happens when it goes in safe sleep.

If your Mac doesn't wake when you expect

    Is this normal behaviour?

If not I wonder what can I do to prevent "safe sleep" from happening ... if it is what happens at all.

Macbook Air 2020 i3 or i5? And do Logic and Xcode run smoothly ?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 12:54 PM PDT

Hi guys I hope you can help me with your experience...

I`m in currently in the market for an Macbook Air 2020. And the common theme among YouTuber/Techreviewers is that the Mb Air 2020 is great for simple tasks. Now thats great because I will be going to University this summer. But what I`m wondering about is if the base Macbook Air(dual core) is also capable of running Programms like Xcode but in my case especially Logic Pro X smootly ?

Now two important things to note here...

    1. I´m on a buget 1250 Euros. The base model costs 1200 Euros in Germany the i5 quad core extra 50 euros so 1250 in total...and it has to be portable, so it has to be a laptop and the old keys SUUUU*K I had the chance to test them at a store pre corona luckily
    2. I wont`t be overloading logic with a ton of tracks and effects but it should handle a good amount...

Can the Macbook Air 2020 handle that ? Appreciate an honest and lengthy response. Thanks

Now the last point/question if it is even possible to use logic pro X smoothly on an MBA. Why am I even thinking about the dual core i3 option if the quad core i5 is only 50 Euros more ?

    2 Points:

    1. On ebay you can find an brand new Macbook Air Base model 2020 in gold(dont care wich color) for only 1125 Euros. But an stock configuration with an i5 quad core is nowhere discounted...
    2. I read and heard about the rumor that yes the quad core ist faster initially at least but under longer load the advantage is lost due to thermal throttling with the side effects that the i5 runs about 10 degrees celsius higher...so more fan noise bla bla bla

Is the Quad core then still the money worth ?

I know it is an very long Post but I genuinely hope some of you can help me with your experince. Thank you

Upgrade from 2019 13" MacBook Pro to 2020 MacBook Air or Pro worth it?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:00 AM PDT

A couple months ago, I bought a 2019 13" MacBook Pro from Best Buy, and it's been a great little laptop for me. It came pre-installed with macOS Catalina, and I use it mainly for web browsing and general productivity.

However, there are a couple of quirks with this laptop. First, the battery percentage reported from macOS is conflictingly higher than the percentage that coconutBattery (a third-party battery app) reports. The macOS indicator is at 100%, but coconutBattery is reporting 95%. That's a little bothersome.

Second, the keyboard. Mine has the infamous butterfly keyboard, but I've grown to like it quite a bit. But I'm doing the best I can to baby it, because I'm always paranoid about messing it up due to crumbs or other foreign material getting stuck in the keys.

Now that Apple has finally transitioned away from the butterfly keyboard, I'm toying with the idea of upgrading to a new MacBook Air or 13" Pro with the Magic Keyboard. If I were to buy an Air, I would get the $999 base model, but configure it on the Apple Online Store with a quad-core i5 for an additional $100, as I believe the dual-core i3 would be too underpowered for general use.

Would upgrading to a 2020 MacBook Air or 13" Pro be worth it? Or should I just keep my 2019 MBP?

How does the 2020 Air compare to the 2017 air in terms of thermals (and general performance)

    Posted: 06 May 2020 12:45 PM PDT

I have a 2017 base model air and it gets incredibly hot when running skype or watching videos. I'm curious if the new Air (with the i5 upgrade) is going to perform noticeably better and be less warm? I know it has some thermal trouble but I'm hoping it would be less so?

Apologies if this is a dumb question. Couldn't find what I wanted on google.
