Apple doubles the price of ram upgrade for Macbook Pro 2020 Posted: 30 May 2020 02:35 PM PDT So weird I was thinking of buying the base macbook pro and upgrading the ram to 16gb the past few days. Today I am ready to buy it and the price of ram doubled since yesterday. Apple Store = $100 to $200 Education Store = $90 to $180 Could this be a mistake in pricing? UPDATE: turns out the fats cats at apple did double the price. https://www.macrumors.com/2020/05/30/13-inch-macbook-pro-ram-upgrade-doubled/ [link] [comments]

Camo — use the amazing camera on your iPhone as a webcam Posted: 30 May 2020 04:26 PM PDT Hi! It's long bugged me that anyone joining a video call on their iPhone looks much better than anyone joining on a Mac. It's no surprise: even the most expensive webcam doesn't have anywhere near the tech that an iPhone's camera has. The WSJ did a piece earlier on how this year's MacBook Air camera is worse than the 2010 model's. My current setup — which is pretty good — still has me looking like a ghoul. I've wanted to fix this for a long time, and after trying out a few different approaches, I've realised that what I want doesn't exist. Namely, something polished that I can just run and get amazing webcam quality with: no ads, no messing around with drivers, no fiddly pairing or setup. So, that's what I'm building: Camo, an app that lets you use your iPhone as a pro webcam. There's a bunch of complexity we're having to wrestle with to make things simple, but we reached our second beta build yesterday, and feedback's been positive. My apartment is full of test devices, laptops, phone clips and mounts that I've been testing out, and a bunch of webcams I'm testing it against. There's more info on the project here, along with a sign-up to join the beta. Feedback and thoughts appreciated. 👋 [link] [comments]

There's intelligent life out there. Posted: 30 May 2020 04:59 PM PDT I found this while cleaning out a bookshelf. I remember the day I got it, 20 odd years ago, and I remember when I fired it up and how alienit all looked on my ol' Mac II [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 May 2020 06:00 AM PDT Hi all! My ex girlfriend was allergic to oranges. Every time I went to get groceries for her I would have to check the ingredient list to check for oranges or derivatives. When Corona started I was stuck home for a few weeks so I decided to build an app that quickly scans the ingredient list for words that you're allergic to. While I'm fortunately not allergic to anything, it's already been useful for me when doing groceries for a friend of mine who is lactose intolerant. And because the app can scan in different languages it's also useful for when you're on vacation! You can see it in action here. With the help of more than 15 people from all over the world, the app is now translated into more than 12 languages from Lithuanian to Chinese to Hungarian to Italian. With more being worked on as I type this. The word lists for the most common allergies are translated to 20 languages. Besides allergies and vegan products I'm working on adding support for ingredients that have an impact on the environment such as palm oil 🌴, ingredients related to religions such as halal, as well as diets and cosmetics (the product in the video is an example of how that could work). I'm hoping to get some feedback from people with allergies on if this would be useful and how I could improve the app more. You can download the app and read some more info at www.soosee.app You can sign up to test on the website, or you can reply here and I'll let you skip the line if you can give me some honest feedback 🙂 [link] [comments]

I developed an alarm app to help practice lucid dreaming! Posted: 30 May 2020 10:23 AM PDT Hello everybody, I hope you're staying safe during this global pandemic! I recently began learning to make mobile apps, and this is my first app. Lucid dreaming simply means being aware that you're dreaming while you dream. After you realize that you're in a dream, you can try out anything you want, such as flying like Superman, summoning Pokémon monsters, materializing a town from a novel, and talking to Albert Einstein. There are multiple ways to lucid dream, but one way is to set alarms that turn themselves off periodically. (More detailed instructions can be found in the app.) This alarm app turns off alarms automatically and chains consecutive alarms to provide you with multiple chances to attempt FILD, CANWILD, Rausis, and any other sound-induced lucid dream techniques, which dramatically increases the success rate. This is a free alarm app without any ads or in-app purchases. I am planning to continuously update it by adding and improving new features in the near future! It's also in dark mode! For those of you who now have more time due to being quarantined, I hope you can take advantage of this opportunity to get into lucid dreaming! And if you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to comment on this post here or email me at [lucidwakerapp@gmail.com](mailto:lucidwakerapp@gmail.com). Thank you very much for reading! SafeTimer, an app that helps you control the use of face masks Posted: 30 May 2020 11:32 AM PDT Hi! I just launched my very first app: SafeTimer, a small utility designed to help you control the time you've used a face mask. The app is completely free (no ads or in-app purchased) and can be downloaded on the App Store: https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id1512032981?pt=121500132&ct=rdt&mt=8 The app has been developed to help people during the COVID-19 pandemic, as you know social distancing and wearing face mask is the best tool that we currently have to stop the spread. It's also important to use the mask only the time it has been designed to. The app lets you:

I hope you find it useful 🤗 [link] [comments]
Miary - a beautiful and minimal diary with mood and activity tracking! Posted: 30 May 2020 04:53 AM PDT I built a simple and minimalistic diary app, named Miary. Some features of the app are:
I have also tried to make Miary accessible for everyone with support for accessibility features like VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, Reduce Motion, etc. I would love to get your feedback. App Store Link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/miary-diary-mood-tracker/id1485099713?mt=8 [link] [comments]
Classical - a better interface for classical music on Apple Music Posted: 30 May 2020 02:14 AM PDT 🎶 Check out Classical on the App Store 🎶 Apple Music (and Spotify, etc) weren't designed for classical music. Browsing music by composer or comparing different recordings for a work such as Beethoven's Fifth isn't a great experience. There are some great classical music only streaming services, but if you also listen to non-classical music then you end up paying for multiple subscriptions. I've released Classical to make things better. It has a built-in database of 200+ composers and nearly 25000 works. Choose a composer and see all of their works. Search by work name without having to sift through non-relevant results from other genres. Select a work and Classical will search Apple Music for albums featuring matching recordings. A recording shows you just the selected work - no more hunting through an album for just one piece. Track names are optimized for classical music - no more truncated titles with the movement stripped out. Other features:
Classical is on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. It's a free download with a 3 day free trial of the entire app. After your free trial ends unlock all composers and works forever for just $2.99, or continue to use the app with 20 of the world's greatest classical composers for free. The data used in Classical is taken from the fantastic openopus.org project. [link] [comments] |
