Trying to create ISOs of CD-ROMs, but Terminal command isn't working anymore Posted: 30 May 2020 09:07 PM PDT A few years ago, I learned of the "dd" command for terminal, which could be used to create an ISO file of a CD-ROM. However, I recently have have trouble, where nothing happens after putting in the appropriate command in Terminal. The command I've used is: dd if=/dev/disk5 of="Documents/DiscName.iso Of course, I change "disk5" to the appropriate disk number, but still no luck. Is there some step I'm missing? TV App artwork broken since 10.15.4 Posted: 30 May 2020 06:54 PM PDT Since updating to 10.15.4 (still present in 10.15.5) all artwork for every TV show I've purchased is gone so all the episodes just have random screenshots as the cover art. Anyone know how to fix this? It's not just content that was already in my library, everything I've purchased since then also has no artwork. [link] [comments]

Posted: 31 May 2020 02:08 AM PDT Hello, Any Lulu or Radio Silence users out there ? Lulu seems to be a very trustable option. Radio Silence also looks simple and straightforward as a network monitor and firewall. Which one would you recommend? Thanks. Cheers! [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 May 2020 01:49 AM PDT I am experiencing the weirdest problem that I've seen in using Macs for nearly 20 years. I have a late-2019 MacBook Pro 16 with the latest version of macOS Catalina (10.15.5). I suspect that applications / processes that create file descriptors may be getting blocked. I first noticed this when I was unable to create new browser tabs (in Safari, Chrome and Firefox), but existing tabs continued to work and navigate within the same domain. Command line networking tools like curl, nslookup, netstat, nc all work normally, so there is no connectivity or DNS issue. The Mail app can connect to mail servers, and show message headers, but not message bodies. The Unix "lsof" command (list open files) hangs....which makes be think the problem is file system related, although DiskUtility or system diagnostics show no problems. I can still create files in the file system using Finder, or command line tools such as "touch", "cat" or "vi". It's really weird. Generally applications slowly stop responding, and I have to do a hard reboot. Are there any os-level or hardware level diagnostics I can run to find out what is happening? Thanks for any suggestions! John. [link] [comments]
How can i access the 'Other' Storage? Posted: 31 May 2020 01:41 AM PDT Hey guys, im using my mac air and in my storage, the 'Other' category has like 53gb which i have no idea what it is and i need to clear it. I went throught ~Library in finder and i narrowed it down to my user. But upon checking the size of each folder in my user, none of them add up to the 53gb. I think there are hidden files which i cant access. How can i access that category? [link] [comments]

Virtualbox is not asking permissions for mic access (MacOS Catalina) Posted: 31 May 2020 01:38 AM PDT I want to use Zoom on a VM, because of the recent stuff that's been happening with privacy issues. I have passed my mic to the VM. The VM realises that I have a mic, but when I test its input using Discord, it doesn't pick up any sound. Then I realised that for apps to use the mic, they need to ask for mic access, but Virtualbox is not asking for it. How can I fix this? I have vbox version Update: I updated to version 6.1.8, but still, no luck [link] [comments]
Switching 2011 iMac to Catalina and encountering an error. Posted: 30 May 2020 07:22 PM PDT okay so recently, I picked up an old 2011 iMac that was running on high sierra. this version of high sierra wouldn't let me use final cut pro, so I ended up just downloading a 3rd party software that would make my mac compatible, and now when I run final cut pro it says "Graphics configuration not supported". Can anyone help? [link] [comments]
My laptop shut down after the OS reinstall was completed, and hasn't restarted. Posted: 30 May 2020 09:04 PM PDT My Mac was stuck for hours while updating to 10.15.5 so I turned it off and restarted, but it stopped booting completely. Anyways I reinstalled the OS, it took a really long time and then shut down. I didn't notice the last few inches of the progress bar, but I believe it finished installing. Everything I have read online says that it should restart after reinstalling the OS, but it's been nearly 30 minutes since the shut down and it is not restarting. Should I restart it myself? WiFi disconnects on its own (Mid-2015 MacBook Pro) (Catalina 10.15.5) Posted: 31 May 2020 12:46 AM PDT Ever since I updated to macOS Catalina recently, my WiFi has been disconnecting on its own. It seems to disconnect at some point after I'm done using my MacBook for the day and I put my brightness all the way down. I leave it on overnight. When I wake up, I notice that the WiFi is disconnected, which is annoying. Anyone know how to fix this issue once and for all? [link] [comments]

Reducing the screen (not the resolution) size on an iMac Posted: 30 May 2020 02:33 PM PDT I don't know a good way of explaining this but this is what I'm trying to achieve: https://i.imgur.com/UHKXTGi.jpg Basically, reducing the real estate of the iMac monitor by adding padding around it. Do you know if this is possible? [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 May 2020 10:40 PM PDT Before the update, I still able to (not that i often do it) use it with 6% left, and gives a warning about low battery. Now, when im on 20%, there's no warning and the laptop just shuts down completely. I had to plug the charger to be able to boot it up again. When it's turned on, i can still see the battery is still at 20%. I've tried resetting the SMC but no luck, still the same. Battery cycle is 557 atm, and battery condition it says normal.. Anyone have this simillar issue? If not then maybe it's the battery already at that age (tho i still can use it for about 4 hours with battery for light programming) [link] [comments]

Old deleted apps suddenly reappeared after installing Catalina, now can’t be removed. Posted: 30 May 2020 09:23 AM PDT Including the dreaded 5k player which I thought I was rid of once and for all. I guess Catalina has scooped it out of an old time machine backup. Now when I go to delete it it says "backup items can not be modified". Wtf So not only has it reinstalled a bunch of apps (and who knows what else) I didn't want but it won't even let me get rid of them! Weirdly I haven't found the same issue anywhere via google. Anyone know how I get around this? Thanks [link] [comments]
MacOS won't go to sleep on external monitor Posted: 30 May 2020 01:52 PM PDT Hi, I had this issue on my 13 inch 2019 air and now I have a 16 inch 2019 Pro. When I have it plugged into my external monitor (via Thunderbolt), and I lock the device, it stays on the lock screen and doesn't go to sleep. If I force it to go to sleep via the menu and close the lid, I'll sometimes walk back into the room and see that it's on. Because of this, the fan is constantly running and the device is super hot. Does anyone know of a potential fix? I've hesitated from posting for so long but I tried googling the issue and I'm getting a lot of results pertaining to different issues. Thanks in advance friends!
