MacBook dies halfway through bootup and tries again. Over and over Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:28 PM PST I have an early 2015 MacBook Pro running Catalina that won't boot up. Or rather, it gets to the Apple logo with the loading bar and about halfway through the screen goes black. The laptop waits a few seconds and tries booting up again. This is a never ending loop. Some more information, this only happens when the MacBook is plugged into the wall, otherwise it doesn't do anything at all. It's totally dead without wall power. I've also tried to clear VRAM at startup, boot up into safe mode but I can't. It always dies during bootup. It even does this with the lid closed (I can tell because of the starting sound). Weirdly, the moment I plug it into power it starts the boot loop, again even when the lid is closed. My suspicions are that this is a problem with the battery, but that's on about 50% health at 600 cycles (yes I'm a nerd who checks this too often). Also, even after charging the battery for around 3 hours the problem persisted. I've not had problems with the laptop shutting down before today. I'm at a total loss [link] [comments]
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 01:09 AM PST Hello. How knows how to uninstall an app completely. I use apps like CleanMymacX and App Cleaner to remove all folders but whenever I install the app again, it calls back cach again. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Feb 2020 01:14 PM PST I am still having file locking/move/rename issues. My old workaround stopped "working". I am worried that I need to decide whether I am buying a new server, buying ExtremeZ-IP or buying new client machines. If anyone has had any success with this, I am currently weighing my options to replace something. It would be nice if a Windows Server could work with a Mac Client in this day and age. How do you remove 'Siri Knowledge' from Spotlight search? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 06:13 PM PST I've already turned Siri off but I still see 'Siri Knowledge' spotlight suggestions. Any help? [link] [comments]
Downloading Mojave installer on Mojave Posted: 27 Feb 2020 01:07 PM PST Hey I used to download macos installer.app files on app store's purchased tab. But I found out that I cannot do that on Mojave, but I need to create a bootable usb and install a new macos on my computer. I do not want to upgrade to catalyna so without downloading somewhere shady and untrustet what are my options? [link] [comments]
Windows snapping and moving? What tools and shortcuts? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 10:48 AM PST Hi all, As someone that has been using Windows for the majority of his life, I have always used super + arrow keys to organize windows on my screen. For example, to make a program fill up half my screen I use windows + left/right. One of the first things I missed when I got a MacBook was the lack of shortcuts to snap a window (for example to make it fill half the screen). I installed bettertouchtool and found it works great, but super + arrow key are also used for other functionality (e.g. moving your cursor around in a text document). I'm therefore looking for suggestions what shortcuts are best to use. So, my question is: what (3rd party) tools and shortcuts do you use to allow (shortcut) window movement/snapping? edit: I am mainly interested in the shortcuts you use. [link] [comments]
Boot into recovery with windows keyboard Posted: 27 Feb 2020 08:34 AM PST Hi All Apologies, doing this on my phone. I need to boot my mac mini server into recovery to boot from a USB stick but I'm using a Windows keyboard. I have tried holding down alt and the Windows key but it just automatically starts into Mac OS. Am I doing something wrong? I'm running 10.15.3 Catalina. Thanks all :) [link] [comments]

Windows 10 seems to perform better than MacOS, why? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 11:32 AM PST I have a Macbook Air 1.6 13 (2015, 8GB) which bought in 2018. I've noticed MacOS performance getting worse since I've gotten the "service battery" indicator. Recently the MacOS Catalina update has made the performance even worse. Chrome/Firefox/VS Code takes a while to open up. Toggling b/w full screen on YouTube shows visible lag. To tackle this, I first did a clean install of MacOS. Even so the performance wasn't ideal. Following which, I installed Windows 10, and it has been working so much better. One thing I've noticed with Windows 10 is that it runs my Macbook hotter. Their are times when the area surrounding key 'W' gets quite warm. Certainly more hotter than MacOS. Is there a way to fix this? I enjoy MacOS more than Windows 10 however as the performance keeps degrading I don't know for how long will I be able to do so. I literally use my Laptop just to browse internet (10-ish tabs) and occasionally write code in VS Code. [link] [comments]
macOS Equivalent of Control + Left or Control + Right? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 03:13 PM PST On Windows, if you are in some sort of text editor and you hold Control + Left or Right, you can move between words instead of between letters. Is there an equivalent of this for macOS? Also, does anyone know how to do this on a Full Screen Parallels window? Control + Left here will move to another macOS virtual desktop instead. Long time user of "Snapz Pro X" (its maker AmbrosiaSW has shuttered) - what to replace it with? Posted: 27 Feb 2020 04:12 AM PST I reimaged my Mac and reinstalled everything after TimeMachine complained multiple times about courruptions during an attempted system restore (long story). After that, I'd pull selected apps from TimeMachine into my new Mojave install. The legendary Snapz Pro X was one of them. I found the license file too in /Library/Preferences, and it launches but insists the license has expired. Too bad, that was a great app even if stuck in 32bit and not updated for many years. I'm looking for replacement suggestions. What's fast an key-launchable and has some decent options for clip regions, clip destinations, and shadow-edges etc ? I've also used Jing before, but that's slow in comparison, and it too is going to be replaced by TechSmith. Snapz was able to pick up on highly transient context menu launches. Jing as far as I can work out, cannot. Ambrosia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambrosia_Software SnapZ Pro X - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snapz_Pro_X [link] [comments] |
