Use HashPhotos if your Apple Album Photos is out of chronological order 2019

    Posted: 15 Jan 2020 07:07 PM PST

The other week my photos album on my iphone went out of chronological order.

I had to update to Catalinia to use iMovie which meant I can't use iPhotos anymore. iPhotos used to be the fix to put your iphones album photos back in chronological order. I also did not want to restore my iphone because that would force me to update my iphone 6s and I really don't want to as the battery life will be exceedingly slow.

What I found was using HashPhotos automatically puts your iphone album photos in chronological order so I just put that next to my photos and camera apps.

Just thought I'd make this thread as there is a lot of old, misinformation about how to get a solution for this.

Discussion: My suggestions for the photos app for better overview, easier organising and less storage space use

    Posted: 15 Jan 2020 06:38 AM PST

    Hey reddit

I am not so active in this sub, so please let me know if I'm doing something wrong.

I realise these are all luxury problems, but due to much frustration with the photo app regarding organisation, deleting and just a better look of the camera roll, I have thought of some solutions. I would love to hear your further ideas or potential problems and then I will send suggestions in to apple feedback.

I would also love to hear if you experience the same problems, other problems, and what suggestions you might have if they are different from mine.

    Problems:

Camera roll is a nuisance as a place to find, show and share photos and the reality of a camera roll is not as perfect as the ads show.

    • Endless scroll to find the right photo if you want to show, remember, or share something

    • Having the ugly view of photos you dont want to put in a hidden folder, but also dont want in your camera roll: Unwanted photos (bad ones, duplicates), temporary photos (screenshots, city map, locker code, school blackboard notes, plane tickets and other tickets), photos that you may want to keep, but not see in camera roll (memes, forwards on whatsapp, embassaring photos for friends or partners, but not coworkers or acquaintances)

    • Storage problems

The options that do exist to categorise and tidy up your photos are tedious

    • It is not possible to see which photos are not in an album, which makes albums an unreliable way of storing photos. This gives a few problems: 1) Personally, I have a feeling there might be a few photos I forgot to add. 2) Every time new photos are taken, I have to keep track of how far down my camera roll I have already gone in terms of organising and reviewing.

    • Hidden photos are not accessible through all apps and you can only have one hidden folder

    • Dealing with duplicates is a long process and you dont know how far you got with the sorting if you do this proces once

    • Temporary photos tend to stay mixed in with the rest, because you choose not to delete them since you need them at the moment and if they are tickets and the like, you have to look for them

    Solutions

Uncategorised folder: A new folder in the app called "uncategorised", which shows you all photos that have not yet been reviewed and put in a "category". Photos you then categorise, will exit this folder. If you already went through the photos once and decided to not categorise some photos yet, it will give you a break (similar to the letters in the music app in an alphabetical list) that says "new photos". You have the ability to auto scroll to this point. Predefined categories include "temporary photos", "events" and/or "trips" and you can add more categories such as "memes", "work", "school blackboard notes" various project names etc. A small red notification number will show that there are photos to be categorised (if you want)

"exclude from camera roll": You can tick off which folders/category to not show up in camera roll. You have the choice of it only being events, trips, family and friends, so that opening the app, creates no unwanted surprises or just looks nice. As I still think there should be one folder that has all photos unfiltered (maybe with the exception of hidden categories.

Auto delete: Temporary photos category has a setting where you can choose that it deletes the photos after a certain time. You can also make specific photos delete after a certain date. (a ticket can be deleted after the event).

*Few extra tags similar to favorite tag: *

    • To be edited tag does not change where you move the photo to, but similarly to a favorite makes it show up somewhere else and marks it with a little edit icon, so that you can remember that you want to edit them.

    • "Also needs to be in another category" tag makes it show up in another folder, where you can mark it and send it to other categories apart from the one it is already in. I will never be duplicated in doing so, as it will still be the same photo.

    • To share online tag. When the pictures have been used in e.g. instagram, they will lose the tag, but they will still appear in the instagram folder that already exists. The default folder, social media apps will open when want to upload photos, will be the ones with this tag.

Categorising tool: A tool where you can swipe photos up/left/right/down and categorise them into different categories (similar to tinder). You can define which categories the directions move the photos to. A bar in the bottom shows the next and previous 5 or 10 photos. When you notice duplicates or multiple similar photos you can press "this is a duplicate" button and it prompts you to a screen choosing all the similar photos and shows them to you at a chosen quantity to choose which one(s) to keep. From this screen you can add tags before moving it to a category, so that you can do the things you want to do with the photos without interrupting your sorting process.

You can give any folder/category a "hidden" feature, so that the cover is not shown and you have to give password/faceID/fingerprint to access it, which will also be possible when accessing these photos from any app.

'Shortcuts' features for categories/folders: You can basically code each folder to behave in certain ways. If you have a school blackboard notes folder, you can check them off as you add these notes to your written notes, and you can tell it to give reminders in doing so.

    Edit:

The reason i give them another name than "album" is because i feel like albums should be reserved for something more specific. You can have a category called trips and then each trip may or may not have an album depending on preference.

A friend sent me a message asking that if a photo is in two categories and one is hidden and one is not, will it show. I didnt think about this. Ultimately the main camera roll will be filtered using the categories and not whether or not something is hidden, but I have to say that I now am not sure, because when something is hidden I think you should have the option to require a password to see it, so that would mean it should just be hidden everywhere if it is in at least one hidden category. But that opens up the question whether they will be hidden when looking at the same photo in an unhidden category. Hmm, Maybe they turn up as grey or very blurred? This needs more thinking. Ideas?

Clearing up the confusion about albums. There will no longer be any default albums. Everything except if you want to make a specific album of a trip or wedding or something will be categories. You will still have smart categories that show the screenshots, portrait photos, selfies etc. I wanted to separate the concept of organising photos and making a photo album of a memory.

Gaming on mac, what apple brings. A Gamer Perspective.

    Posted: 15 Jan 2020 08:35 PM PST

I just figured out what the real opportunity apple could offer. First, let's start with AMD. With the release of the AMD 2020 Adrenaline drivers on PC, we also received AMD's own Custom streaming drivers.

For Reference, There are four big players in Streaming software platforms right now. Xsplit, OBS Base, OBS Stream Elements, And OBS Streamlabs. Each has there own ways of earning money based on the stream tools they provide.

Now we have AMD. They came out of nowhere, and the only selling point is the hardware comes streaming ready with drivers built-in. No random third party entity that hasn't been around awhile. Meaning AMD is a big company with big money and is only going to put more into this new tool.

What Apple could bring for a "Pro Gamer."

Lets Define Pro Gamer. I'm talking about a market that does gaming as a carrier. We care about what the viewer can see and if it can be recorded nicely at 1080p for archives.

With the new mention of accelerated modes on "Pro" model hardware starting with the 16" MacBook Pro, This would Start to be in line with a medium to mid-high range gaming PC as far as performance is concerned.

The only thing we would be missing is True Motion Display 120hz + and Apple-specific streaming drivers that could help gamers stream games and record 1080P video with ease.

If apple can accomplish 120FPS gaming on a custom apple 120hz "true motion" display while streaming and recording. They will sell every streamer, and "Pro Gamer" out there. And I think that's what the refresh will be this year. Mostly the True Motion Display.

Seamless OSX integration would be amazing. Think of what we could do with our iPhones and other apple integrated devices at this point. And then the future of Apple AR

So this will include all gaming platforms. Im personally starting up a series on Apple Arcade games because I think there's some attention that needs to be brought to what someone can get for 4.99 a month.

This is just my thoughts on what Apple could bring to a market that needs tools. Before Catalina, I would have said Mac OS was rock solid. But everyone can agree that Mac OS is Lightyears ahead of Windows 10. as far as stability with hardware and other drivers.

With the way Metal drivers work with mac OSX, its only a matter of time before they figure out how to get windows games ported and running correctly on mac os. With the help of AMD, I'm sure they can accomplish this while including tools for streamers on OSX.

If I could record my games and edit in final cut pro all on one computer, I would never repurchase another pc.

    Edit: Grammer.
