Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend? - December 30, 2019

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 08:10 PM PST

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

    Find previous weekly threads here.

How do you feel about titles that aren’t supported anymore?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 04:25 AM PST

    Hello!

I'm a fan of mobile gaming. While my preferred platform is still the pc after +20 years I just love playing games on the iPhone, such as Meteorfall. They are made for this.

Now I have several games in my library that aren't supported anymore and I think this is a big weakness. While I can connect an old Xbox or PlayStation to a modern tv, while I can run old games on PC in one way or another, if something on iOS isn't supported anymore it's just gone forever.

I'm hesitant buying games, especially if it seems that the game is abandoned. Steam world heist got its last update 3 years ago. While I would love to buy the game I just can't justify it.

I bought all Prince of Persia titles and now they are just gone...

How do you feel about that?

    Premium incremental zen games?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 07:48 AM PST

I enjoy games like Terrarium, Viridi, Penguin Isle, virtual aquariums, etc.

I do not enjoy IAPs of any kind (besides full-game unlocks).

Do you have any suggestions for premium incremental/idle games? Even unobtrusive micro transactions bother me, so please suggests only truly IAP-free games/apps.

I've played SPACEPLAN, Universal Paperclips, and Kittens. (And SPACEPLAN was the only one that leaned toward the zen style that I'm looking for.)

    Thanks!

Looking for a full fledged game with some kind of development

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 04:15 AM PST

I'm looking for something big... it should have a nice UI and tons of motivation... maybe a PC port or something like that.

I thought about Templar Battleforce, Battle Chasers, Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy IX.

    Any other suggestions?

I just want a game that's nice to handle. I have cultist Manager but I bought the pc version. It's too small on the iPhone for my eyes.

Thank you for any answer... :-)

Pirates Outlaw is amazing! Any suggestions for more card games

    Posted: 30 Dec 2019 08:26 AM PST

I'm pretty hooked on Pirates Outlaw. Great game, but wanted to know if there are any other similar games or card suggestions.

I've been looking to get Meteorfall, but not sure if biting at current price is worth it. Last sale was almost a year ago.

I have Nights of the Full Moon and Solitairica as well.

Automatically saved games saved as app documents?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 06:43 PM PST

Games like KOTOR, Terraria, Baldur's Gate, and Minecraft all have saved games stored as app documents, rather than on the game company's servers.

You can transfer them to your computer, and from there transfer them to other devices you plug in.

You can upload them to the iCloud as a backup for your device, but the only way to download them from there is to erase everything and do a fresh iOS installation using the backup.

But surely there is a way to sync documents automatically. Surely you can save something on your iPhone and keep working on it on your iPad? That seems like something a lot of people would need. Right?

I am trying to set it up so my son can play his games on his iPad here and on his iPad at his mom's without losing progress. He was bringing one iPad back and forth but she hated that, so I bought him another for Christmas.

What are some good (paid) IOS games?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 04:13 PM PST

Hey all! What games do you really enjoy? Got a $25 itunes giftcard to burn. Im looking for games that feel less like time wasters and more like I'm experiencing or accomplishing something. I really enjoy puzzle games like The Witness, but thats not a hard rule i love all genres. Generally anything with a compelling story or interesting gameplay. Thank you for any suggestions!

Is there a Call Of Mini-like game that's multiplayer? I love playing them back then but going back to it, I can see how unrefined it is. Are there any cute shooters that might scratch that itch for me?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 07:55 PM PST

I'm hoping to look for something like Call Of Mini Zombies 2!
