Are Apple ethernet ports grounded for shielded patch cables? Posted: 04 Dec 2019 07:18 PM PST Some of the older products like the first gen Airport Express look to have obvious shielded ports based on various metal tabs inside the port. But the newer products with ethernet ports I have just have two metal ball dots on either sides on the inside of the port. Does anyone know? Or know of any technical reference document that will say. I'm positive AppleCare help will have no clue what I'm talking about. Some of the products from recent years have this FCC Compliance Statement in the information documents that hints of grounded ports: This product was tested for FCC compliance under conditions that included the use of Apple peripheral devices and Apple shielded cables and connectors between system components. It is important that you use Apple peripheral devices and shielded cables and connectors between system components to reduce the possibility of causing interference to radios, television sets, and other electronic devices. You can obtain Apple peripheral devices and the proper shielded cables and connectors through an Apple- authorized dealer. For non-Apple peripheral devices, contact the manufacturer or dealer for assistance. Apple Customer Experience!!! Posted: 04 Dec 2019 06:05 PM PST You got to appreciate Apple customer experience and the way they stand behind their products. So, I had a family member buy me an Apple Mag Safe cord for my 2013 MacBook Pro after my last one wore off sort of speak after years and years of use. She bought it at 3rd party retailer (Canadian Staples) and after a couple of months of use the cord began to turn yellow - physically intact but yellow color along the cord was spreading more and more and power brick was getting super hot whenever I charged the laptop. I went to Apple store, no receipt, just my good faith in Apple and told them what happened. The guy looked at the cord and I got a new one ordered, free of charge!! Are you kidding me?
