    I'm finally upgrading my Mac OS (still on 10.9.5) but I don't want Catalina yet, however I can't download Mojave from the app store. Is there another way to do so?

    appstoreagent constantly on network

    Program appstoreagent talks to bag.itunes.apple.com 24/7. This is on a 2017 iMac, MacOS 10.15.1 (Catalina).

    I also have a MacBook running Catalina. Problem does not exist there

    Any info on this? Solutions?

    Latest Update, Cannot Log Into User Account

    I was one of the lucky few who did not have many issues after upgrading to Catalina. In fact, it was all running smooth until the latest update. After updating I could no longer log into my main user account. I tried everything I could, I even contacted Apple Support twice and two different people I spoke with were so unfamiliar with the error that they said they'd never even heard of it. Their only solution (after having me change my password) was telling me to reinstall Catalina, which after some frustration I did twice.

    The real problem is that with this last update I can no longer have my home folder running off an external drive. I have an external SSD where I stored my home folder for the last two years and I never had a problem. Reinstalling MacOS and leaving the home folder on the internal boot drive causes no problems. The minute I point it to the external folder in User Account settings it produces the error upon restart. I've literally tried every solution I could find online and nothing has worked. Any ideas or suggestions?

    Audio VST Plugin Doesn't Work on Catalina

    Hi everyone - long shot but hoping someone else here is into making music and has run into the same issue as me. I recently got a new macbook which runs Mac OS Catalina, and when trying to install the plugin Nexus 2 I got the error "Application 'Synsopos.app' could not be started. Probably the file is corrupted or incompatible, or file access permissions are set incorrectly." Now rescanning doesn't even find the vst or show an error or anything. I see Nexus under the components and vst folders, and it's showing as activated in eLicenser, and the Nexus Content folder is in the right place - but the plugin won't show up in Ableton.

    Briefly searched online and seems like some other people have run into this issue on mac OS before, but not a lot of info on what the actual issue is or what a solution would be. Should I just reinstall an older version of mac OS? Can someone please help out? This is ruining the fun of getting a new computer :(

    Can't log in to Apple Music using my Apple ID on Mac Os Catalina (10.15.1).

    Hey guys I need help, I tried everything found on the internet. I can't sign in to Apple Music I just type in my Apple ID and password and nothing happened! If I try to authorize the computer it prompt the error 1001. My internet connection is ok, I even reset my apple id password. I also try to log out from my Apple ID on my Mac, restart and log in on app store, preferences and Apple music, but I'm music nothing happened!

    Hope you guys can help me.

    Catalina FAIL (AGAIN): Can't sign in to Apple Music, Podcasts and Apple TV apps

    Just did a clean re-install of Catalina after having multiple permission bugs in my last install... those were fixed, but now I was greeted by Apple with a bunch of brand new bugs.

    I try to sign in to Apple Music, Podcasts and Apple TV apps and it just doesn't work.

    • Both Apple TV and Apple Music shows no error feedback. It just closes the sign in modal and ignores me solemnly.
    • Podcasts shows a SUPER HELPFUL message saying: "Something went wrong during authentication. (0)"

    How does 10.15.1 feel? Does it fix the glaring issues that Catalina launched with?

    I have a new iMac, it came with mojave but I already upgraded to Catalina.

    i am also a new MacOs user, so i'm not familiar with anything here! :-P

    now, i have bought an external SSD and i want to move the OS to this disk, because it's really too slow! (i have the standard 1TB HDD).

    I have read several tutorial, but i am not able to download the "clean" installer and find the catalina installer in the supposed "app" folder... all i get is an automatic updater to catalina 10.15.1... and i cannot follow the procedures i found online to proceed with a clean install on the external SSD...

    Long reboot times post update

    I've been noticing this for a while but not had the time to investigate. On both my MBP and work MBP the reboot following a system update seems to take an age (20-45 mins) as described by the "about n minutes remaining" Now it's often a bit quicker than this but I don't recall updates ever taking this long before.

    Is this normal or do I have an issue? Any solutions?

    My computer has been failing lately and I bought a drive, thinking its the drive that is dying. It is a fair easy task to change but I didnt consider the fucking T6 Torx screws in the old drive that I need to move to the new one. Now all hardware stores are closed and I'm grumpy beyond relief.

    Hey folks - I've been using commercial certs for my MacOS OpenDirectory servers for years. I've usually used a Comodo cert (through a reseller). To me, the biggest benefit is that my clients (macOS and Ubuntu servers) _just work_. I dont want to export CAs and chains and certs and keys ...

    This week, I renewed my certs and Comodo is now Sectigo. Seemed to work well. Https://myserver.fqdn works fine and Safari and Chrome both load the MacOS server page just fine with a valid cert.

    MacOS clients seem fine... I'm not entirely convinced all of them are set to force SSL in directory utility, but my personal clients are and they are working fine.

    But none of my Ubuntu clients (which are a sizable amount of my deployed base) work. LDAP auth is unchanged, hostnames are unchanged. But _getent passwd_ and logging in don't work for macOS OpenDirectory users.

    Before I got and drop $250 on a big name cert, can anyone think of something I might be missing or some troubleshooting tips?

    Java cannot write files in Catalina

    I have upgraded to Catalina yesterday, and now my projects are not working properly.

    It seems that all the files that the application should generate are not being created. This means logs, csv files and whatever content is written with `FileWrite(...).write(...)` for instace.

    My spring boot project should create multiple logs and any of them are working. When I programmatically create a file with FileWriter I get below exception:

    Caused by: java.io.IOException: No such file or directory at java.io.UnixFileSystem.createFileExclusively(Native Method) ~[na:1.8.0_212] at java.io.File.createNewFile(File.java:1012) ~[na:1.8.0_212]

    Anyway facing issues with Java and Catalina? I have just updated to latest patch of java 8 `1.8.0_231` and still same problem.

    Did any of you face this problem?

    Newbie help: Time Machine, External SSD, and partitioning.

    Just picked up a Samsung T5 500 gig drive and my MBP is a 256 gig drive. I am wondering if I can setup the drive to be a time machine back up say 260 gigs and rest be used for other files I might want to back up.

    Not sure how TM works so would the backup only be as large as the drive on the laptop or can it grow bigger with multiple file versions?

    I also read something about setting one as a DMG to isolate it? Not sure what that means. Can only assume it means have only one part visible in macOS ?

    Also while asking can I encrypt both partitions or does that affect time machine?

    5700 XT, Catalina 10.5.1 no video

    Hey everyone, I just used dosdudes patcher to update my Mac Pro 5,1 to Catalina in hopes of using my 5700xt. It runs fine with my rx580, but I with the 5700 I get the chime but no video output. I'm using display port, and I have both 8 pin and 6 pin connectors plugged in. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get it working? Side note, the 5700 XT does run in my hackintosh under the same OS version.
