Is the 2019 butterfly keyboard still bad?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 01:01 PM PST

I just bought a MacBook Pro 13' 2019 2 weeks ago and the typing experience doesn't feel very comfortable to me. But that's not my point.

With releasing the Macbook 2016, it seems Apple confirms, that there are many problems with the butterfly keyboard. Now I'm not sure, if I should keep this or send it back to amazon. Yes, there is a replacement-program over 4 years. But what if something happens in 4 1/2 years?

Are there any experiences with the 2019 butterfly mechanism?

    Thanks in advance,

    Clemens

    Is Bootcamp Viable?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 07:50 PM PST

I'm planning on picking my first MacBook up and I'm not really sure if it's viable to use Bootcamp and run Windows to maybe game on the weekends. I'm planning on getting a 16" base spec MacBook Pro sometime later this week. I'm planning on using the computer for working during the week and after my work code and develop programs.

    Macbook Pro Power Help

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 02:36 PM PST

    Hello All,

Wanted to ask a question which has me bugging,

What I wanted to know was does the macbook pro take a hit in battery or does its battery get affected when you connect it to a monitor over HDMI or USB C and use it with its lid closed. This way the mac keeps charging for hours depending on use on the monitor.

    Please advise regarding this issue.

    Thanks :)

Buy 2019 Macbook Air or replace battery on 2014 one?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 04:12 PM PST

Hi, I currently have a 2014 Macbook Air whose battery+charger (~$200) needs replacement. However, I wonder if I should just instead buy a new 2019 Macbook Air that costs ~$800 with Black Friday deals.

If I keep my early-2014 Air:

    - Still have 100 GB of unused storage (256 GB total)

    - Scissor keyboard + USB-A + SD card slots

    - However, only has 4 GB RAM (not huge dealbreaker considering I mostly do typing/browsing work)

If I buy the new 2019 Macbook Air:

    - Not that much difference in price for a new Macbook

    - Retina screen (not in 2014), sleeker design, faster processing

    - Butterfly keyboard could be unreliable, USB-C ports

    - Might get the 128 GB (downgrade from 256 GB)

If I replace the battery of my 2014 Air, I would consider using it for 2+ more years. I know that Apple is reintroducing the scissor keys in 2020, and I wouldn't really want to buy the first iteration.

What I'm really wondering is, would the difference of ~$600 be worth getting a new Macbook Air over a battery replacement? How unreliable is the butterfly keyboard in its 4th generation? Would really appreciate your input. Thanks!

Is my 2015 MacBook Air worth carrying into my new career (post-graduation) or should I look to upgrade?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 04:01 PM PST

Starting a new job soon and I believe I will be relying heavily on my current laptop (2015 Air 13.3"). Should I look into upgrading soon? When will this become obsolete, or at least mostly unusable? I'm fine with upgrading if I need to, but I'm not running out to spend $2000 on a new MacBook for no reason. Thoughts?

Edit: I've been using it for about 3-4 years. Bought new. Just general college stuff.

New macbooks/ liquid retina rounded screen corners

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 02:12 AM PST

With apple already making iPhone Xr/11 displays with rounded corners, what stops them from bringing the rounded corners to the macbook panels? The corners on the 16" MBP just look kind of weird, it would look so clean and finished if they rounded up the corners

The right half of my MacBook's touch bar stops working.

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 09:10 AM PST

About once a day now, the right portion of my touchbar will stop responding to input. It works again once I quit the "touch bar agent" in activity monitor, but I was wondering if there is a permanent fix.

    In desktops btw.
They seem to be thinking/doing it backwards from a performance/value standpoint atm.

    Cases available for MBP 16"

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 08:10 AM PST

I've been looking for a hard shell snap on case for the new MBP model, but so far haven't found anything. Does anyone have some insight as to when incase and other brands will start to make these available?

    SSD

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 10:11 AM PST

I have recently purchased an SSD as a replacement for HDD. I intend to clone current HDD using Super Duper and then install the SSD into my machine. Once this process is done, will my Macbook boot up as normal from SSD or am I missing something?

Battery life issues on MBP with BetterTouchTool

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 10:11 AM PST

So, one of the apps I installed right after Alfred was BTT, mainly for the GoldenChaos customization to change up the touchbar. However, although Apple says it's supposed to give me about 11 hours of charge, I'm getting maybe 5-6 hours. A big part of the power consumption, according to activity monitor, is coming from BTT, where the energy impact is 4.0, and sometimes even higher.

I know this is counterintuitive, but is there a way to make the touch bar sleep when not in use? I know it's not completely handy, but I feel like that's the only way to keep the customization and then save some battery life. Any tips would be helpful.

MacBook 12 battery longevity / wear?

I'm worried about the battery longevity, especially after 300 charge cycles or so. I would like to hear your thoughts on this issue

What’s the real limit of a basic MacBook Air?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 11:48 PM PST

Hi everyone, someone can tell me what MacBook Air (2019) can really do? Is it just for web browsing and typing some Pages docs or it can be useful for creative contents (excluding video editing, I don't think it could manage Final Cut or Premiere Pro properly)?

[Macbook Air 2018] Two repairs later, still having hardware issues with my keyboard. What next?

    Posted: 25 Nov 2019 06:55 AM PST

    Timeline:

    • December 2018: Purchased 13" Macbook Air, Retina Display.
    • March 2019: Some of my keys started to give out (specifically the R and T keys). The keys wouldn't register a click, or they would double-register clicks as "tt" or "rr" (i.e., "tthe rred carr"). I took it to the Apple Store and they repaired it.
    • June 2019: I ran into the same keyboard issues, but now the Caps Lock key was also having the same issue. I shipped the Macbook to Apple and they repaired it.
    • November 2019: The backspace key is now having the same issue. Just got off the phone with Apple and they are going to replace the keyboard again -- for a third time.

This computer has been such a hassle to own. As a long-time Macbook owner, I have been so thoroughly disappointed in the hardware. Frankly, I just want a new computer. What can I do?
