Does anyone use a HomePod as their Mac speakers? Posted: 24 Nov 2019 06:04 PM PST I have some cheap speakers I have for my Mac mini, but while I'm seriously considering getting a Homepod to finally get all-in on the Apple ecosystem (replacing my Alexa Dot, etc.) I thought I'd ask. I see online that you can send audio from a Mac or Apple TV to HomePods but I wasn't sure how well it'd work in terms of every-day audio. TLDR; could HomePod replace my basic little aux speakers? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

How to hard reset iPad with new screen (no home button)? Posted: 24 Nov 2019 04:51 PM PST I have an Air 2, but my screen was busted to I had it replaced. The guy put the newer version on, so there's no functioning home button (except for fingerprint). I tried vol up, vol down, then hold power, but the "slide to power off" just shows up. It's like my iPad doesn't know it's supposed to work differently now. Anyway, my iPad is being a pain in the ass so I'm wondering if someone can help me figure out how to hard reset the thing. I tried a soft reset and it didn't help whatsoever. Thanks!! [link] [comments] |

iPad Pro (3rd gen) with Blue Yeti Mic Posted: 24 Nov 2019 04:37 PM PST Hello, I've fallen in love with GarageBand on the iPad Pro, and I'm looking to record some vocals. I've found out how to get my Blue Yeti microphone to work on the iPad, but I can't seem to get the audio pass through to work to my headphones. To those that don't know, the Blue Yeti has an audio jack on the microphone which acts as a USB audio device on any computer, but I can't see how to get it to work on the iPad. Any suggestions? Seeking bluetooth headphones with boom mic that work well for VOIP/conferencing on iOS Posted: 24 Nov 2019 02:10 PM PST Hello all, I'm new to this sub, so please let me know if this post doesn't fit or needs more details. In brief, I need a bluetooth headset with boom mic that works with iOS. It should send mic audio at a high enough quality that video conferencing and the like sounds good to others, and should play back audio well enough that speech sounds good. I'm not after Sennheiser audio playback quality, nor am I recording professional voiceovers. I just need something that can send and receive audio simultaneously, that won't drop to the low quality of a phone call when the mic is in use like some headsets do, and that is fully compatible with iOS and macOS. It doesn't need to work with Windows. Well, maybe that wasn't as "in brief" as I planned. Still, let me give a bit more context here. My sister does online teaching, and has found the iPad to be a great platform for this. Failing that, she uses a 2013 MacBook Air. Right now, she uses a $100 Sennheiser gaming headset with boom mic, which the iPad accepts without issue. This headset has onboard volume control, mute, and other useful controls. Basically, it's perfect, except it's wired. The cable limits her movements, snags on things and knocks them over, and so on. AirPods work pretty well, but only last 2-3 hours on a charge with the mic constantly in use. Plus, one teaching platform prefers its teachers to use a headset with a visible (boom) mic, since they think the teachers look more professional that way. It's a stupid policy, but there it is. What I'd like is this headset, but bluetooth. Everything I've found either doesn't play nice with iOS, costs $200 or more, lacks a boom mic, or has some other problem. Apple's lack of support for APTX seems to be a factor, too. Given that the use case is exclusively on Apple products, I'm hoping this question fits this sub. As I said before, let me know if I should go elsewhere. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
IPhone 6s not switching on after update Posted: 24 Nov 2019 04:36 PM PST My sister did the new 'emoji' update on her iPhone 6s, I double checked and Apple suggests it should still be supported. The phone is slightly bent , but besides that, the rest of the phone is complete and unbroken, no aftermarket parts, and was working perfectly until she tried to run the update. I suggested it may be due to her not having enough space left on her phone (64gb) I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if there's any suggestions on how to fix it. We'll probably take this to the genius's bar ASAP. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Nov 2019 09:07 PM PST Figured that draining the battery was worth a shot, and it worked! Very glad that I won't be having to do any more work lol. I've had them for about a month now and had no previous problems. Just now I put the headphones in and they did not connect. This happens pretty often so I went to disconnect them from my phone like I always do, and it always works. Except this time, when I opened the headphone case, it flashed a white light and could not connect back to my phone even after holding it next to it for several minutes. I went on the beats website and held the connection or power button (not sure what it's called) for 15 seconds and it flashed from white to red repeatedly. Let go of the button, went back to the flashing white light. Same as before, no connection. Tried to close and open the case, still nothing. Please help! (Please note that I have had them charging for several hours, they are definitely not out of battery) [link] [comments] |
2018 Macbook Pro Gets Slow and battery runs out Posted: 24 Nov 2019 08:28 PM PST I am having the weirdest issue with my 2019 Macbook pro. I have my Macbook plugged into a Dell docking station via USB-C (charges my computer and allows the use of dual monitors). About once a day while working, my Macbook will suddenly become VERY slow and my battery indicator will suddenly go down to 2% (despite it being plugged in for more than 2 hours straight). At this point, my computer is pretty much unusable so I restart. After restart, the computer works as expected and begins to charge again as normal. I've taken it to our tech department multiple times and they say the System Management Controller (SMC) needs to be reset. Has anyone experienced anything like this and could suggest a fix? macOS Catalina won’t close dictation? Posted: 24 Nov 2019 07:49 PM PST 2017 MacBook Pro The microphone icon won't go away, I've turned dictation off through system preferences. When I try to force quit though activity monitor, it'll just show an ellipsis like it's loading, then go back to the microphone icon. Restarting the machine won't help either. Any advice? Help figuring out enclosure for Mac drive Posted: 24 Nov 2019 07:26 PM PST Hello everyone! Long story short but my Mac (model: mid 2015, MacBook Pro, Retina, 15inch) messed up during updating. Apple's options, after some diagnostics etc. were "wipe the hard drive" (100% not an option) and second "take out the drive and get a case/reader to pull the info off the hard drive" (Hard drive model: MZ-JPV2565/0A4; I was told M.2 was relevant info as well). That being said, the Genius Bar tech took out the hard drive and gave it to me and said to get an enclosure to USB case. I went to a few different tech stores, including the one the Genius Bar tech recommended, and I was told that the Mac tech was proprietary and they didn't carry or sell the adapter to read it. I'm really lost on what to do next, and was wondering if you all had any suggestions on what I would even need to get (an adapter, enclosure, etc.) or do in order to transfer the files. Ultimately what I want to do is pull all the files off and save them on another computer or external hard drive so I have access to them and can continue using them. Any help you can give is appreciated. I'm sorry if the formatting, flair, or anything else on this post is messed up - this is the first time I've posted from mobile instead of desktop and it's a tad confusing on how to do it all. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Is there a way to stop iOS Books from moving ebooks to the cloud? Posted: 24 Nov 2019 06:59 PM PST I was really annoyed to find that iOS Books moved my ebooks to the cloud when I was on the metro without data or WiFi. I also found there has been times when Books gave me error message telling me there's not enough storage space on iPad to download the ebook in iCloud back onto device when the device clearly had enough space. Anybody with any insights or tips? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
need help with website hosting on El Cap Posted: 24 Nov 2019 06:42 PM PST I'm trying to run a small website off an old computer. I activated Apache on my iMac (running El Cap) and i was able to test it and got the "It works" etc. I was able to get the pages created, everything is in the WebServer folder and when I am on that computer I can see the files in Safari. but I can't see them from another computer. I was able to pull up the IP address but no go when I type it in as a location. I think the reason is that I'm accessing the internet on Wifi and the IP is actually my Airport (which I think explains why both my iMac and my MacBook Pro, plus my iPhone and iPads all think they have the same IP). A neighbor had set up the iMac so I could remote log in via my iPad a couple of years ago but I've restored the computer since then and said neighbor moved away months ago so I can't just ask him how he did it and see if that fixes this issue. and I can't seem to figure out the right search terms to google an answer. help please (and keep in mind I'm an idiot when it comes to this sort of stuff so don't assume anything about what I know, other than how to find the terminal app) [link] [comments] |
13" 2.3GHz June 2017 Macbook Pro vs 13" 1.4GHz July 2019 Macbook Pro? Posted: 24 Nov 2019 06:36 PM PST Looking to get a macbook pro to run some software for work but should I get the 2017 or 2019 version? They cost practically the exact same but the 2017 is 2.3GHz while the 2019 is 1.4GHz. I don't care for the touchbar and was wondering if there were any large differences between the two that would make me choose the 2019 version even though it'd seem to me to run slower? P.S. I'm looking to buy the certified refurbished ones on the offical apple site if that matters at all Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Kernel crash as soon as GPU involved Posted: 24 Nov 2019 01:19 PM PST MBP 15 Mid 2010 - MacOs Sierra 10.12.6 2.53 i5 - 8 GB 1067MHz DDR3 NVIDIA GeFroce GT 330M 256Mo Hi everyone, I've been experiencing some kernel panic with my MBP. Though was software, so I erase the disk completly and install + update the OS. I'm on the latest software update. Despite of the clean + update install I'm still having the kernel panics. Looks like is GPU related, because it crashes as soon as I'm doing some video editing, or photo editing. The weird thing is that it can also crash randomly just when I'm using Spotlight, or searching in the Finder. Here is the kernel panic output: https://pastebin.com/6EsVUHhk Looks like it's GPU related right ? Is it a known issue ? What should I try first ? All files gone from iMac after reinstalling OSX onto external HD. Posted: 24 Nov 2019 12:50 PM PST I may be screwed. Yesterday, I ran out of disk space. Transferred 80 gb of photos from iMac to external HD. iMac would not allow me to move photos on iMac to trash because no disk space. I restarted the computer and got the prohibitory symbol. Tried Shift+Power button, Command+Shift+Power, and finally Shift+Option+Command+R+Power. Ran first aid. No problems. Attempt to re-install OSX. Would not allow me to install on iMac HD, but gave me option to install OSX on external HD. I'm getting scared when I notice the scrolling on my mouse is inverted, which makes me think it got reset to factory but am hoping this is just recognizing the external HD as a new computer. Set up username and password again on external HD. Turned off computer. Unplugged my external HD and turned the computer back on. Turns on but I get the prohibitory symbol again. I'm hoping and thinking everything is still on my iMac's HD, but can't get into my computer to delete the files to make space, which is all I was trying to do in the first place. Thanks for reading and I appreciate any help. I don't think all is lost as I'm pretty sure I have a Time Machine back up on my other external HD. As far as I know, I would be missing a small amount of music, some files for business, ~4 months of design files, and ~4 months worth of photography. Everything else to my knowledge is unimportant but still a pain. Thanks for reading and any help laid out as if I was completely computer illiterate would be appreciated. I'm typing from my 2010 MacBook Pro, so I can for now access this for help. [link] [comments] |
iPhone lagging when writing messages Posted: 24 Nov 2019 04:24 PM PST Whenever I'm typing a message and wants to use an emoji or taps on "return", it's like the keyboards lags for a second or two before it actually does the command. Could this be something to do with the software or the iPhone? Anybody else have this problem or knows how to potentially solve it? NOTE: I have an iPhone XS Max [link] [comments] |

Posted: 24 Nov 2019 04:09 PM PST I posted here a few weeks ago and noted that I'm having a random issue -- maybe every week or so -- where I'm using my laptop and then everything just freezes: the screen freezes and the trackpad no longer becomes functional (i.e. I can't tap or push down and it just becomes solid, like when the computer is powered down). A couple of people told me I likely have a common 2015 MB Pro issue: trackpad flat cable. I went to the Genius bar and presented this information to the Apple employee and he told me that, because the screen turned to gibberish and I could still restart my computer with the power key, I did not have a trackpad flat cable issue, but I likely have a dying logic board instead. (He did not offer to open the computer and inspect it, instead saying I would have to leave the computer for 3-to-5 days for that to happen.) Does my problem sound consistent with a dying logic board? And, if so, when should I expect the computer to fully die? He said replacing the logic board would cost $500 and I should just look at new laptops. Honestly, this was one of the worst interactions I've ever had at an Apple store -- the guy seemed to be annoyed by me and didn't really want to answer any questions. I appreciate any thoughts you might have. Feel free to ask questions :) [link] [comments] |
Iphone & Macbook Compatibility? Posted: 24 Nov 2019 12:22 PM PST Hello Reddit Apple users! New here and just had a question. I thought there were a lot of things you could do between you Iphone and Macbook to make everything much more seamless, but I'm not sure what all of those features are. What are everybody's favorite little things I can do now that I have an iphone and macbook, or little tips and tricks I wouldn't know about being an Android user for 10+ years now lmao. I got an Iphone to try out from a new job I just started and I would like to get to know all of the neat little harder to find things that are possible with these devices, since my Pixel 2 is almost paid off so I could potentially upgrade to an Iphone next if it turns out I like these! It's an Iphone 6 by the way, not sure how big of a difference that makes. Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
