PSA- $599 Apple iPad Pro 10.5-inch 512GB at Target

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 08:56 AM PDT

PSA: If you want to use the updated iPadOS Reminders app, iCloud has to be enabled for Reminders. Otherwise you're still on the old version from iOS 12.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 01:57 AM PDT

TL;DR PSA: If you're on iPadOS, and you want to use the new functionality in the Reminders app (like list-grouping, sub-tasks, etc), you need to have iCloud enabled for Reminders. Otherwise you're still using the old Reminders app from iOS 12.

Found this out today. I was trying to create sub-tasks for one of my reminders, as that's a new feature in iPadOS. For some reason I couldn't get it to work. So I looked up some guides on how to do it. I tried everything the guides said, and nothing was working. The feature just didn't seem to be there.

I tried some other iPadOS reminders features, and those weren't working too. It was like I was stuck on the iOS 12 version for some reason. In actual fact, I really was.

By sheer luck I stumbled upon someone talking about the same issue, and they said for some reason iCloud has to be enabled for Reminders, in order to enable the new features. I'd turned off iCloud for most apps since I wanted stuff to save on my device/be accessible offline.

I tried turning iCloud on for Reminders, and opening the app back up. An "Upgrade" option appeared in the app, and after clicking that it updated me to the iPadOS Reminders, with sub-tasks, and all the other features.

I figured I'm probably not the only one, and a bunch of you are probably running the old Reminders app without realising. So thought I'd share in case this helps anyone else out :)

    iPad Keyboard Case?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 07:25 AM PDT

I'm looking for a good keyboard case for my 9.7" 6th Gen iPad. I would like it to have the ability to twist and fold over both with the screen closed or open. I know there are a bunch on Amazon but wanted to see if anyone on Reddit has one they can't live without and could suggest. Thanks!

Is this a good price, or will they be cheaper around Black Friday/holiday season? Looking to get one for my son's Christmas gift. At this price, I may just get one for myself as well!

    Mouse Scroll Wheel Direction Reversed?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 06:46 AM PDT

    iPad Pro 11 (iPadOS 13.1.3)
Logitech MX Anywhere 2 BT mouse.

Mouse is paired, all other functions seem to work just fine. However the scroll wheel is reversed compared to what is typical on every other device (with this mouse).

IE: to scroll from the top of a web page down, you would typically roll your index finger from the front of the wheel towards yourself. To scroll up the page you would push from part of the wheel closest to you towards the front of the mouse.

Right now, its the reverse for me on the iPad. I have to spin the wheel away from me to scroll down and spin it towards me to scroll up...

Is this normal, is there a setting I missed to change this?

    Thanks

iPad Pro 11" 2018 - Issues or no?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 09:08 AM PDT

I recently purchased a 2018 iPad 11" Pro. I love it more than any iPad I have ever owned, maybe more than any apple product I have every owned. I have noticed a few things lately though that I wanted to see if folks thought were normal or faulty. I think I am just being too observant/ sensitive but wanted to check with others.

    1. The bottom lefthand side of the screen gets slightly warmer than the rest of the screen. Has anyone else experienced this? It is by no means that noticeable, not has it ever gotten hot. Its just a slightly warm running temp.
    2. When I accidentally pressed on the screen too hard once, I noticed a slight popping sound - it sounded like an air bubble. Now, when I press on other areas of the screen I occasionally hear it too. There's no noticeable sign of any kind of screen damage or defect.
    3. Finally, I have noticed the iPad screen is much more "flexible" than the iPhone screen. Is this by design? What I mean by this is that I can press pretty hard on my iPhone 11 screen and it doesn't sink in for flex at all. If I do that to my iPad, you can see the screen slightly give a little.

    Thanks for everyone's help!

Is iPad worth it for School?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 10:04 AM PDT

I want to transition to note-taking on the iPad for school I was thinking of getting the 10.2 inch iPad with the apple pencil as I don't want to spend a lot of money for something that will replace just my note-taking and regular school work and I always wanted to adjust my whole workflow to tech-related and future proof. Does anyone think it's worth the money?

Basic Image Creation and Editing App?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 01:23 PM PDT

I am aware of apps like Procreate, but wondering if thats too advanced/complicated for things I would use such an app for. I am not an artist and do not have a pencil.

I am looking for something I could replicate the tasks one might do in MS Paint or Pinta/Krita (on Linux). Cut/Copy/Paste, transforming (rotate/flip/scale), fill colors, erasing, etc.

For example today I downloaded 2 wallpapers I liked for my iPad and used MS Paint to merge elements of both..taking stylized text from one and a character from another and placing both into a new wallpaper. Both had a black background so it was basically create a new file with dimensions I wanted and a black background, copy/paste the elements from the wallpapers I wanted in, resize/scale and position those elements and done.

Is something like Procreate still the right tool for something like this or are there simplier and cheaper/free alternatives that work well?

    Thanks

Effects of a really cracked screen?

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 12:36 PM PDT

I just cracked my ipad right in the centre, and everything seems to be working fine (except for like a slight discolouration at the middle of the crack). What are the disadvantages of buying a screen protector and continuing to use this ipad? Is the ipad going to wear out sooner? I do not want to replace this because it costs a LOT of money and I don't have apple care. Thank you!

    Using Apple Pencil

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 11:26 AM PDT

Hi there, I am new to this subreddit but I just had a question. I have been using my iPad and Apple Pencil a lot and am very satisfied. The only thing that bugs me out is that the iPad battery drains quickly when using Apple Pencil. Is this normal behavior or am I the only one. I am using 10.5 inch 2017 iPad Pro.

    iPad 1 stucks on bootloop

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 10:49 AM PDT

Hi, today my aunt gave me an old iPad 1. The fact is that this device hasn't be turned on for about 1 year.

    Now the problem:

1: At first try it didn't boot. Black screen and nothing happen.

2: Once plugged, it showed he iTunes logo with the usb cable. Tried a recovery but iTunes gave an error (1600). Tried with other programs but nothing worked. One thing to note, the tablet goes off as soon as you disconnect it from the cable.

3: I have tried a program that stated its ability to take off the iPad from the recovery mode. Now the iPad is in a bootloop (rembemer only when connected at some power source): grey apple appears, brief flash and screen black. This loop goes on until you disconnect it from the power supply.

Is there a solution? For now I've put it in DFU mode and it's rechargin.

Apple Pencil connects and shows up but doesn't draw at all anymore.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 10:49 AM PDT

Worked for a over a year no problem, but over the past few months it would randomly stop working while I was using it and the only way to get it working again would be to turn the Bluetooth off and back on and re-pair the pencil, and then it would work again for a random amount of time. Then the whole process would have to be repeated.

I replaced the tip, but it didn't seem to help the problem. Tips on properly.

Then... yesterday it just stopped working (drawing) all together. It connects, it will pair fine and the battery life shows up so it seems that it is connected properly, but the pencil is dead dead dead when I try to draw on the screen.

    Everything is up to date.

The cynical part of me thinks that this is due to a software "update" that purposely makes the hardware fail after a certain amount of time or use to force me to buy a new pencil, a new ipad pro or both. I hate to think that this is a possibility but hardware shouldn't just randomly die like this IMO.

    Any ideas?

USB A to USB C to lightning adapter

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 03:20 AM PDT

I am using ipad pro 10.5 , I bought 2 cheap adapter which is USB c to lightning converter and USB A to C otg to connect to my ipad so that I can use mouse or midi keyboard input when I use garageband. The problem is the adapter worked when I use it seperately like for charging or when connect to my microphone, but it's not working when I connect both from my microphone/keyboard to my ipad.

Any help? Or is it supposed to be like that for my ipad pro 10.5?

iPad Air 256GB or iPad Pro 11" 64GB

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 06:04 AM PDT

Hello guys. I am currently looking to purchase a new iPad within these 2 months. I would like to wait if Apple would release a new iPad Pro in November but if not, then I am torn between 2 options. It's either the 256GB iPad Air 2019 or the 64GB iPad Pro 11".

Using the best price I could find within my region, the iPad Air 256GB will sell for about 626 USD meanwhile the 64GB iPad Pro will sell for about 690 USD. The gap is only about 60-80 USD so I'm not sure whether it is worth it to jump to the Pro but sacrificing storage.

A bit about myself and what my usage might look like: I'm currently a trainee in a company and won't be doing any intensive work for the next year. Most likely will use my iPad as a secondary device to help with different research, making presentations and drafting different notes. On the other side, I'm also starting to grow my photography hobbies - so I might also use my iPad to store and edit photos from my camera. Other usage might include: storing pdfs and ebooks for reading, occasional gaming (though I rarely play mobile games), and streaming music + videos.

For intensive tasks I will rely on my Macbook Pro and I will do my main work in my computer. The iPad is mostly for my secondary and mobile device which I can carry around everywhere easier. After reading this article (https://www.theguardian.com/technology/askjack/2019/oct/24/which-is-best-ipad-air-or-ipad-pro-11) my choice is leaning towards the iPad Air 256GB as storage is one of the things we rather " have it and not need it" instead of "need it but not have it". However after trying out both iPads in the Apple store I was completely drawn to that immersive and fluid screen of the 11" and thinking it will give me a better user experience overall.

Any opinions or suggestions will be appreciated! :)
