Apple broke the Apple TV "TV" app's 'Up Next' feature to serve spam/ads on the Home Screen. Posted: 03 Oct 2019 05:53 PM PDT Had my Apple TV update itself today to the new version. Noticed Apple broke the TV app, specifically the 'Up Next' feature on the Home Screen, to enable them to serve ads for content I don't own, is on a service I don't subscribe to, or have no interest in, instead of serving me up content I am actively watching. Probably one of the worst design decisions Apple has made on the Apple TV in their chase for service revenue. [link] [comments]

[Help] Subtitles showing in the center of the screen Posted: 04 Oct 2019 02:05 AM PDT Anyway do bring the subtitles back to the bottom of the screen? They're showing up in the center of the screen. [link] [comments]
Does Apple TV remove most of the original aerial screensavers in the newest firmware? Posted: 04 Oct 2019 01:23 AM PDT I'm liking the new underwater screensavers, but now I don't see many or any of the original aerial screensavers such as Hong Kong, LA, SF, etc. [link] [comments]
Can no longer change volume of TV using iPhone Posted: 04 Oct 2019 03:35 AM PDT My setup is as follows: Apple TV connected to a receiver which is connected to my TV through HDMI-ARC. I am using the Apple TV Remote in the Control Centre. My issue: I used to be able to hit the volume rocker on my phone while in this view and it would change the volume on my receiver. Suddenly (may have been an update I'm not sure) it stopped doing this. I can change the volume with the physical remote, I can change the volume using volume rocker on the actual remote app, just no longer on the control centre view, but I know it used to work. Has anyone else had this issue? [link] [comments]

TV OS needs a complete overhaul when it comes to apps and updates Posted: 03 Oct 2019 08:59 AM PDT I've turned on automatic updates of course, but that doesn't work out at all. There are several problems with that in addition.
The whole update system is a complete mess and I'm truly baffled that this is made by Apple. I'd expect that to be way more hassle free and easier. Automatic updates should be exactly that. [link] [comments]
TvOS, LG Oled, and Dolby Vison == periodic flashing Posted: 03 Oct 2019 05:21 PM PDT My appletv 4k auto-updated today. Quickly after restarting I noticed the tv would start flashing to black (as if switching modes/inputs/etc) once every 15-30 seconds. I reset both the appletv and reset the tv to default settings. The same thing happens. If I switch the appletv to 4K HDR instead of 4K Dolby Vision, the issue goes away. Anyone else seeing that? [link] [comments]
PSA: TVOS13 and Logitech Harmony Remote wake issue Posted: 03 Oct 2019 09:02 PM PDT Just to let everyone know. After seeing many good reports on tvos13 I upgraded yesterday. Apple have made it so the Apple TV needs the home button pressed in order to wake the Apple TV. This was done I believe to prevent accidental wakes with the Siri remote. For those of us like myself who use the Harmony remote though, this means that our default remote doesn't wake the Apple TV with our regular routine. You can either press the home button or menu button manually, or add it to your routine. Problem with adding it to your routine though is that it will always back out of whatever app you are in when you switch to that input, or show the screensavers it you are already on the home screen. Of course, both coming with an additional delay since it will tend to activate that command AFTER your tv and receiver are powered on and on the right input. Up to you, but it's annoying to me enough that I regret the update (not using any of the other new features so far). Heads up. [link] [comments]
tvOS 13 going into sleep mode while music is playing. For you too? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 09:40 AM PDT I have my Apple TV set to sleep after 15m (always used this setting for years & years). When playing music, it used to stay awake. Since tvOS 13, it falls asleep while playing Pandora or while using AirPlay to stream Spotify. Is this unique to me, or a common bug? (I've reported to Apple via "feedback" form.) [link] [comments]

Apple TV going to sleep while air playing music from iphone after update. Posted: 03 Oct 2019 02:59 PM PDT Anybody else have this issue? I am air playing from the SiriusXM app and the AppleTV goes to sleep after 15 minutes (which is the normal set time). Before updating it didn't do this. The screen saver would come on (which is great), but it wouldn't go to sleep unless I turned the airplay off on my phone. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:35 PM PDT Anyone try watching Thursday night football in 4k through the fox sports app. I have an oled lg tv. But I can't get apple to display it in HDR. I have match frame rate and display on. And I usually set it in 4k sdr, but I even tried 4k HDR and when I went to the game it matches back to non HDR. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Oct 2019 02:49 PM PDT I'm trying to get a video to loop in a gallery setting. VLC was my first choice but it doesn't pass audio to the Sonos speakers for some reason. Anyone know of a good looping app? [link] [comments]
Can we set up multiple profiles on Apple TV, but using the same Apple ID? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:09 PM PDT Truth be told, I'm a minimalist. I'd love to make a profile on my Apple TV (gen 4) with the bare minimum apps. But my "main" profile is using my Apple ID. I tried to make a new profile, but it seemed like the whole switch profile thing in the new tvOS was really just to be able to use multiple Apple ID's, correct? [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Oct 2019 05:39 PM PDT I am currently using plex to stream video from my home server. It works great, but my server doesn't have the cojones to play 4k. My home server is on the way out anyway, and I was planning to replace it with a fairly low end nas as it it mainly used for media storage and backups. My understanding is that plex relies on the backend to do all the encoding, and this would mean I would need to get a pretty powerful nas to enable 4k playback, which I am not that keen to do for $ reasons. So my question is, are there any other app options similar to plex, but not so backend hardware reliant? [link] [comments]
Screensaver problem with HDR and Dolby Vision Posted: 03 Oct 2019 11:34 AM PDT My settings were 4K SDR with match content and frame rate. Some of the new underwater screensavers have downloaded, so I switched to Dolby Vision to see them in all their glory but when I do that, I only get one screensaver. The satellite one with the lightning. Same with 4K hdr. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:49 AM PDT Ever since the new update (I think) my sound bar connected via Bluetooth now disconnects every time I put the Apple TV to sleep. It used to stay connected but now each time I turn it on, I have to go into settings and manually sync them to each other. Has anyone else experienced this recently or have a suggestion on how to keep the sound bar synced? It would be weird if this was not a bug or setting I missed and now a permanent thing. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
AirPlay 2 Controlling Volume Output Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:21 AM PDT Hello, I am using an AppleTV 4 for watch live TV. If you go into settings, you can specify your sound output and select AirPlay 2 destinations for that sound output. If you have multiple AirPlay 2 receivers, I am using AirPort Expresses for whole house audio, you can select what zones you want to play the sound output on. It appears to work except I cannot find a way to control the volume output of these AirPlay 2 zones. When you hit the volume control on the AppleTV remote, it only controls one zone and the rest of the zones are at 30 per cent. I do not see a way to control all zones at once or a way to control individual zones. Because of this limitation, you really can only use one AirPlay 2 zone output at a time because the other zones are too low in volume and you can only control whatever the AppleTV selects as the first AirPlay 2 zone via the AppleTV remote. Any one use this functionality and know of a way to control the different AirPlay 2 outputs? [link] [comments]
