God this makes my life so much easier: pinning desktop order Posted: 03 Oct 2019 05:39 AM PDT I've had my macbook pro since 2015 and this one issue has always bothered me. My desktops rearranging themselves when I cmd-tab from application to application. I like having evernote open on my left-most desktop, then to the right my main screen with finder windows + terminal + browsers + other stuff apps, then to the right of that my school work windows (quimbee/westlaw, if any of you are in law school/lawyers), then my emails (personal + school), then my calendar. I don't know why, but this order makes sense to me. Anyway, the point of this post: to lock the order of desktop spaces, go to System Preferences, Mission Control, then un-check "Automatically rearrange Spaces based on most recent use." My life just got maybe 10% better. This was such a nagging annoying thing about macOS for so long. [link] [comments]

[Recommendation] Disk Recovery Software for Mojave/Catalina Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:00 PM PDT I accidentally connected my finance/tax documentation external HD as my Time Machine device and it wiped everything. I have over 15 years of documentation on it and need to retrieve it. Any one know of any good programs? I already tried Googling top rated softwares but end up with Pro-only to restore or software that can't find any files. Pro-only is about $90+, so I would love to hear some opinions on them before I drop the money on it. Thank you! [link] [comments]

Magic trackpad as drawing tablet with a stylus? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 05:03 PM PDT I have some stylus pens that works with the trackpad builtin to my Macbook Air. What if I want do draw in paintbrush or photoshop? I can only "click" by pressing the trackpad hard and so loosing track of what I am drawing. Is it possible to emulate the click with a shortcut? Sound not being played over iMac when using TDM? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 02:15 PM PDT Basically I have a MacBook (13 inch early 2015) and an iMac (21.5 inch late 2012). I used a thunderbolt 2 cable to connect the MacBook to the iMac and use the iMac as a secondary display, which works fine. The problem is however that even though the iMac does show up as an audio device it doesn't actually produce any sound. I tried plugging the keyboard into the iMac and press the volume mute and volume up and down button but it did not help. Curiously enough it does produce the little error sound when pressing some buttons which makes me thing that somehow I still need to select the thunderbolt as an audio input somehow? If anyone has any idea how to solve this I'd really appreciate it. Setting the audio output to the internal speakers does work and plays the audio over the MacBook speakers. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Oct 2019 12:11 PM PDT Hey everyone, I updated my Macbook Pro 2018 to Mojave one week ago and since then, whenever I wake it up from sleep, it does not connect to the wi-fi. It looks connected but websites won't open and even the apps behave in a strange way. For example I tried to open IINA to watch some video and unles I turned the wifi completely off, it did not open, all the apps lag until I turn the wi-fi off or restart and connect to the internet properly again. I realized it has something to do eith DNS so I added my own DNS but it completely stopped working today even with DNS. Is there anyone else experiencing this issue or know how to solve it? Thank you! [link] [comments]
Any way I could dual-boot MacOS Mojave and Windows 7 or 8.1? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 02:57 PM PDT I have an iMac late-2013 model running MacOS Mojave, and I'm looking to dual-boot either Windows 7 (preferable) or Windows 8.1. I also have a Samsung T5 1 TB flash drive. I already know Boot Camp on MacOS Mojave won't work with anything other than Windows 10. I was wondering if there was alternative software I could use to set up the dual boot. If that wouldn't work, would it be possible to create a partition manually and install Win7/8.1 via USB? Note: please don't suggest Windows 10. I tried it and have reasons for preferring Windows 7 or 8.1, such as software that won't work on 10. [link] [comments]
iMac 2019 with i5 - 6 cores is faster than MBP 2017 with i7 - 4 cores? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 04:22 AM PDT I am planning to go back to the large screens and these specs are confusing. iMac 2019 Fusion Drive vs MBP 2017 SSD and i5 (6c) vs i7 (4c). Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Oct 2019 08:55 AM PDT I use a 2018 Macbook Air. I just finished downloading a 40GB DMG file, when I . open it it asks me to move the app (that I need) onto the Application folder, the problem is I don't have enough storage for the copying to complete. Once I open the DMG file, can I delete it? in order to make more space, that's the only way, I'm just worried that the whole thing will be deleted and I have to wait 6 hours for it to be downloaded again. Problem with when I start my laptop. Posted: 03 Oct 2019 07:46 AM PDT So pretty much the title. When I switch on my mac, I end up with the windows I left open when I shut down . I obviously don't check the "reopen windows when logging back in". Anyone know the fix for this? [link] [comments]
Issues installing Mojave - Help Posted: 03 Oct 2019 06:50 AM PDT So last night i decided to pull out my late 2012 mac mini (i7 quad core 2.3ghz with 16gb of ram) and update the OS from High Sierra to Mojave. Apple says my mac mini is compatible with the update. I downloaded it via the app store and the process went on like it normally would. It was taking forever to install so i decided to go to bed and check on it in the morning. This morning i noticed that the os was not updated so i went to updated (clicked on the install mojave in the app folder as well as went to the app store) and everything seems to be fine. I select my drive (have close to 600gb free), click next, the bar shows its installing and i have X minutes left then at the end it says my mac mini will restart and it might restart multiple times to install and at that point i keep getting an error message (got it 5 times already before i stopped trying). The message says: "An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again." Images for reference: https://imgur.com/a/PAXFEAJ Any ideas or solutions to this? Posted: 03 Oct 2019 04:20 AM PDT Hello there, Having moved countries, I have remapped my (FR/FR-AZERTY) MBP keyboard layout to a different one (FR/CH-QWERTZ using stickers to visually remap the keys appropriately + setting layout in MacOS settings). Once logged into MacOS, the new kbd layout is OK, but I have this issue when at the log-in screen (upon powering on the laptop, not on logged-in lock screen) where it falls back to hardware keyboard layout. Any idea how to force the entire system to use a given keyboard layout, even before logging-in? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
