If you want better sound from your iPhone, enable this hidden eq setting and be amazed. Posted: 22 Sep 2019 07:25 AM PDT Go to Settings>Music>EQ and turn on the late night option. On the X line of phones it doesn't just make sounds louder, but it seems like it makes mids clearer and even ups the lows. But on the already impressive 11/Pro line, it makes the speakers crazy. I watched Spider-Man: Far From Home with this off and the ambient sound was already significantly noticeable, but then turning on the late night setting made it seriously impressive as well as overall sound and gave the atmos/surround sound a more significant punch than the default; which surprised me (and I already thought the default was impressive for a mobile device). Give it a try and see what you all think! EDIT: some people are saying they don't see this option in settings. If you deleted the stock Music app, it won't be there. Reinstall the Music app (even if you don't use it) and it'll appear in settings again. Make the selection, and then you can uninstall the Music app once more. Late Night is the only EQ setting that affects the whole OS so it won't be changed if you uninstall the stock app again. [link] [comments]
Tip for entering jiggly mode without 3D Touch Posted: 22 Sep 2019 02:12 AM PDT Since Apple has discontinued 3D Touch, apps now have a menu that includes rearrange apps. This will put them into jiggle mode. A faster way to get into jiggly mode is to push them app and then quickly pull it down right before the menu pops up. This will put it into jiggly mode. Hard to explain, easy to do. [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Sep 2019 06:48 AM PDT I've been an android fan ever since I ditched my iPhone 4 for a Droid Razr Max back in 2012. For the last 18 months I've been using a Pixel 2 XL and I've been largely happy with it, except for the mediocre battery life and one very critical bug: when the screen is off the aggressive battery management would delay notifications from appearing until after the screen was woken up. It wouldn't happen all the time, but frequently enough that I was constantly worried that I was missing important emails and texts. I did my diligence, collected logs and submitted a bug to the AOSP team. The developer came back and said it was "intended behavior." Eff. That. Noise. From my research, other Android users complain about the same behavior, not just on the Pixel. I'm not willing to risk a repeat of the same problem so I jumped platforms. Picked up an iPhone 11 on launch day. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it since I've been in Google's ecosystem for so long. I figured I'd document my Day 1 impressions for any Android users in the same boat. Camera It trades blows with the Pixel on image quality. Haven't tried the night mode yet. Post processing and editing are way better than the Pixel, especially portrait mode. Video isn't even in the same category. It's absolutely insane what this camera does in 4K. I do miss the power button camera shortcut a lot though. It's slower to launch than the Pixel. User Interface I won't say it sucks. But it takes a whole lot of getting used to. Gesture navigation is definitely slower than the 3 button method. I'm not really convinced the cost is worth the saved screen real estate. I hate that the back button is frequently placed in the top left corner. It makes single handed use a chore. Display Like most others, I was really impressed by what Apple can accomplish with a 720p LCD panel. Don't get me wrong, the Pixel display is waaaaay better with OLED inky blacks, warmer colors, and higher resolution that is really apparent with tiny text or HD video. But for regular tasks, this display gets the job done. The compromise was worth it for the battery savings. Speaking of... Battery Life I know it's not a scientifically objective observation, especially since IOS doesn't track screen on time since full charge, but the battery life is amazing. I'd wager it's about twice as good as the 2 XL. I finished my day yesterday at 55% when the other phone would have been around 15%. Kinda peeved though that I have to pay extra for a fast charger. The included 5W charger took about 3 hours to fill it up. At least the excellent endurance means I probably won't need to top off mid-day anymore. 3rd Party Tools It's no secret that IOS locks the phone down pretty tight. I knew to expect this when I switched, but it still bites. I miss Tasker. I could do cool stuff with it like toggle my ringer off when I got to work, or set the display brightness to max and disable the timeout during daytime when docked in the car. Apple has "Siri Shortcuts" that I'll have to play with and get back to you, but I'm sure it's vastly inferior. Update: Thanks for everyone in the comments who pointed out you can enable Dashlane auto fill in the iPhone settings. This wasn't obvious to me and the Dashlane app doesn't tell you this. I'm leaving my original critique here for context. Dashlane is way worse. Since apps can't draw on top of other apps to auto fill fields, you have to app switchFOUR TIMES between Dashlane and your other app to copy and paste your user name and password. It's pretty awful and hugely inferior to Android. Assistant Siri's really bad. She can't read the weather. She can't play music in Spotify. Her responses are routinely irrelevant. Good thing you can add a shortcut to have Siri to open Google assistant. The impact is largely mitigated. That's it for day one. If this post gains some traction I'll keep updating it. If my Android friends have any questions or want me to test anything please let me know. Oh, and please do not let the comments section turn into a fanboy battleground. There's plenty of that already. I'm trying to foster meaningful discussion for people making a purchasing decision. [link] [comments]
I went from the X to the 11. Let’s talk about the screen. Posted: 22 Sep 2019 05:58 AM PDT Ok so maybe I was being optimistic when I switched but let me explain my dilemma. When phones were announced, I told myself I wanted a bigger screen. 11 at 6.1 and MAX at 6.5. I knew I was going to go for bigger screen so Pro was out of the question. I don't take a lot of photos so the 3rd camera wasn't really a big deal to me. So launch day comes and I go to my Apple store and I looked at the 11 and the Pro Max briefly before waiting in line to purchase. I though they looked pretty close and thought the 11 made the most sense. Bigger screen, cheaper price, and cool color choices. So I purchased a Red 11. I unboxed it and powered it on and I loved it, until I hit FaceBook. I scroll a lot so when I started down my news feed I knew immediately something was off. It's almost if my eyes had trouble focusing. Remember I came from an X. I started noticing how text looked different and how every photo I can across looked low def and blurry. 2 days in now and I don't think I can get over how bad the photos look. What I don't understand though is if I look at some photos I took from my X, they look amazing! But scrolling on social media is horrible. I don't know if this is something I can get over to be honest. I have 14 days to return it so I am going to give it that long to see if it grows on be but we will see. From what I read, I am not alone on this opinion. Anyone else go from X to 11 and find it hard to cope with [link] [comments]

Wow. For someone who couldn't care less, I now actually miss 3D touch. Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:31 PM PDT Coming from an iPhone XS Max to the 11 Pro Max. So it's been roughly about 24 hours since setting up and using my shiny new silver 11 Pro Max. So far, eh. I like it! Camera's are awesome! Don't love the heavier weight and thicker design, but it's still a delight! Not much of a difference from my XS Max. BUT. One thing I took for granted was 3D touch. When I heard it was going to be eliminated from the new iPhones, I didn't really care. I'm like "ehh, I barely use it anyways..." so I thought. And I know everyone has already talked about this allll over Reddit and MacRumors, but I'm here to add to the complaints. I literally have been so turned off by the lack of 3D touch that I actually almost considered returning the phone and sticking to my XS Max. I don't know why, but once you have a nice feature it becomes second nature to your use of the phone. I'm sure I'll get used to "haptic touch", but it's driving me nuts! Anyone else been having a hard time adjusting?? It just doesn't feel the same... Not to be dramatic or anything lol. I read a LOT of people in reviews complaining about it too. [link] [comments]

Rejected for the iPhone Upgrade Programme? Read this Posted: 22 Sep 2019 01:31 AM PDT TLDR; rejected by the iPhone Upgrade Programme, called Barclays who said that they'd manually approve the application if I tried again, then was able to refund the phone I'd bought outright and move over to the upgrade programme. I had an appointment to get the iPhone 11 Pro on the iPhone Upgrade Programme at the Apple Store (in the UK) on Friday. After I filled in all of the information, to my surprise, my iUP application was denied; I have a great credit score ('excellent' on Experian) and a good income. I ended up buying the phone outright rather than getting it on the upgrade programme. I was worried about my credit score being impacted by a credit application denial, so I called Barclays who provide financing for Apple in the UK. They said that their credit dispute team would call back the next day with more details. I got a call on Saturday morning saying that they couldn't tell me why I had been rejected because that's part of their internal lending criteria. However, they said that if I was to send them a copy of my bank statement and driving license then apply again, they would approve the application, so I sent that over to their underwriters. The dispute team said that before any information was submitted to them in the Apple Store as part of the upgrade programme, I should have the Apple Store call Barclays so that they could approve it manually as the information was submitted. I went back to the Apple Store and asked them if they could refund me the cost of the iPhone so I could move to the upgrade programme, and they said that that's fine. Like Barclays requested, the Apple Store employee who was handling my case called Barclays before submitting any of my information, and Barclays manually approved the application as it was going through. So in the end, I was able to get onto the iPhone Upgrade Programme even though I had been rejected the day before. Figured I'd post this here for anyone that might have had the same sort of experience. I can't say how this would have been handled outside the UK, but hopefully this will be helpful for someone either now or in the future with the next iPhone releases. [link] [comments]

Would you like to see more NFC emulation capabilities on iPhone? Why/why not? Posted: 21 Sep 2019 07:13 PM PDT What is NFC? Near field communication which transfers data to a reader. For example, it is used by Apple Pay to allow you to 'tap' your iPhone on card readers to pay. What is NFC card emulation? iPhones already have and use this feature. However apple has limited it to apple pay only. It is not open to 3rd party app developers to use it. Thus iPhones are only able to use the NFC reading & writing (as of iOS 13) capabilities of the NFC chip in the iPhone outside of Apple Pay What would NFC card emulation let me do? If Apple (ever) opens up access to the emulation capabilities it would allow you to use your iPhone as an access card, metro card etc. "Used in third-party apps, the NFC chip will let you unlock hotel doors, your car doors, pay transit fares and verify your identity in other ways." This feature is actually available already but limited to student ID cards (to use around CERTAIN college/university campuses) and to CERTAIN metro cards around the world. [link] [comments]
