Does Time Machine backup everything? Posted: 08 Jul 2019 05:36 PM PDT I want to backup my mac because it needs repairing, If I create a Time Machine backup and then my data gets deleted, will I be able to use the backup to just pick up where I left off? Will everything be saved e.g. will plugins for Logic Pro X need to be reinstalled or will they work just as before? will my saved settings for Logic, Synth Presets etc. be exactly where they were before? Macbook pro weird sleep/restart behaviour Posted: 08 Jul 2019 11:08 PM PDT Hello, Recently switched from my MacBook Pro retina 2015 to MacBook pro 2018 (restored from time machine) and noticing some strange behaviour with sleep/wake. When I've left the machine for a long time or closed the lid, when I return it requires my typed password (rather than touchID) and a number of my open apps have restarted e.g. Safari windows reload, excel, others. This wouldn't be that much of a problem except Excel closes all my open files and restarts in auto-recovery mode. Also, the stats package I use (RStudio) restarts and I lose all open files. This didn't happen with my previous MacBook book, also running Mojave. I've tried the reset SMC procedure as described on Apple's website [link] [comments]

Mojave bug? Touch Bar always shows Fn keys for Safari. Posted: 08 Jul 2019 05:10 PM PDT I've been having a strange bug recently. As long as Safari is in the foreground, the Macbook TouchBar switches to Fn key mode (F1 F2 F3 ...). Only Safari. Things I tried:
I switched to Safari Developer Preview for now, because the TouchBar works correctly there. I only use it for Esc, brightness and volume keys, so it's quite annoying when I have to switch to another app to change volume. Has anyone had and solved this kind of problem? [link] [comments]
Does sidecar only work between mac and ipad? Posted: 08 Jul 2019 08:07 PM PDT I have been wanting to use my 5k iMac as an external display for my macbook pro for a while, but sadly target display doesn't work on the newer iMac models. Does sidecar only work between an ipad and mac, or could you use two macs together? [link] [comments]

Attempting a Remote File Sharing server Posted: 08 Jul 2019 09:03 AM PDT I have a mac mini that has been sitting there with El Capitan and recently co-workers have asked me to come up with a way to exchange files amongst each other rather than running around with USB sticks when they get lost or files get lost. So I set up the mac mini as a small server for file sharing and everyone is loving it. However, the owner is asking if its possible for the file sharing to be accessed remotely from another place. I've been trying to see if I can set it up but can't really figure it out. Is it possible to remotely access files to this mac? [link] [comments]
