Honest thoughts going from Face ID back to Touch ID

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 05:46 PM PDT

Unfortunately I dropped my Xs Max in the Chattahoochee river this weekend, it was extremely dumb and expensive mistake. But thankfully I had access to a brand new iPhone 7, which has been... an adjustment, to say the least.

But I've gotta say, while I obviously don't love the screen, the processor, the battery life, the camera, and relearning all the gestures, and basically everything else about the phone, I'm shocked by how fast Touch ID is. I also haven't been bothered by having to move my thumb to the sensor at all, since I'm going to use my thumb anyways if I'm using my phone.

Has anyone else gone back to using a Touch ID iPhone full time after using a Face ID iPhone for a long time? If so what were your thoughts?

I'm not saying Touch ID was better or I want it back, I just forgot how instant it was.

Can anybody tell me more about this bit of old Apple promotional material.

I found this years ago at a thrift shop and picked it up because it was kinda cool. It takes a single battery and has a basic LCD display that updated when you press the keyboard or mouse.

When you press the keyboard lines appear in a text window as if you're typing. If you click the mouse a star map of the big (or little) dipper appears in like 3 clicks. Both reset on the fourth press and just loop. It also plays a click noise and has a startup sound when you flick the switch in the back to turn it on (or at least I think thats what the sounds are supposed to be they are quite distorted).

I decided to do something with it and was planning on replacing the simple tiger-electronics style LCD with a proper 320x240 display and placing an Arduino in it to use it as a desk clock (with a display that is reminiscent of the old OS).

I assume this thing is just a random piece of promotional tat but I've been unable to search for it. The only writing on it (besides the Macintosh on the front) is a small "Pleasant Company Made in China" embossed on the back. Nothing I've been able to google has been able to help.

Does anybody know any more about this? I'd like to at least know that it's nothing special before I start cutting the base to fit the new parts in.

What are the incentives for Apple to offer a value for your old devices?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 11:40 PM PDT

Why does Apple want our old devices from a corporate perspective? What about old Apple devices makes Apple want to get them back?
