Does Apple TV combine different streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime etc?

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 03:46 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I recently bought the 8k Samsung TV and it came with the Apple TV app installed (I believe this was the first TV ever to ship with the app pre installed).

I'm a bit confused about what Apple TV actually does. When I search for any show or movie in it, I have to pay (and it's quite expensive too).

I thought Apple TV could be used as a hub for all shows from the streaming services I have such as Foxtel, Netflix, Amazon Prime etc?

I really hate having to swap between all of these services to check which one has a particular movie.

    Thanks everyone!

    TV app really disappointing...

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 11:00 AM PDT

Holly molly am I disappointed about this app... After using all other apps in single instances I finally took time today to get used to the app. I already had a glance at it a few months ago and thought I just needed some time to "get it". We'll ... after understanding the whole information architecture I come to the conclusion, that I will not use it any more. Why? I can nail it down to these three points

    1. Mixing up "inclusive" with "exclusive" content.
I have a few media library apps installed from tv stations here in Germany which provide their content to Apples tv app. I use Netflix and amazon prime. These three source types I consider "inclusive" content.
Then there is the other world with paid aka "exclusive" content (Apples movies, content from other libraries that require paid subscription, etc.)
The tv app makes it impossible to find out what content is inclusive and is what is not. You have to call up the movie or tv show in order to see this only to find out.
      Awful.
    2. Talking about apps with content from local tv stations etc.: I don't see this. I don't see where the content is coming from. I even see content from apps (apps that required a paid subscription) I haven't even installed! Why?
    3. I get it that "watch now" is some sort of area to go to, when you want to inspire your self, find content you wouldn't have been looking for etc. but why is there no filter or indicator telling me that this is a movie and this is a tv show? Am I missing something? Its something completely different if I sit down and want to watch something with an end (movie) or something that will suck me in for days/weeks (tv shows).

Its these three points that made me leave the tv app for now.

New Apple TV owner + cut cable cord

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 03:30 PM PDT

We've cut the cord on cable and purchased 2 Apple TVs for our home. We pay for Netflix, HBO Now, VUDU and Amazon Prime and don't want to really pay for other content. Can you recommend apps that are free? Particularly interested in News (I just found CNN go app), Sports highlights and anything else that might be free out there. We tried Hulu but we never watched much TV so cancelled it.

    Airplay issue with tvOS13

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 04:07 PM PDT

I have Apple TV 4K and I noticed my airplay always pauses a few seconds after it starts. This only happened after I installed tvOS 13. Anyone else has the same issue? Thanks.

tvOS 13 Beta Broke Waking ATV4K Up Via IR Remote; Have To Use Apple Remote Now

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 01:25 PM PDT

While tvOS 13 fixed the frustrating issue of the Apple TV app causing blinking black crush issues with Dolby Vision content, you can no longer wake it up with a Logitech Harmony Remote. Now I have to use the Apple Remote's Menu button to fire up the ATV4K, then the Harmony can do what it used to. Annoying since this is my go-to streaming device.

How do you know when to replace a AppleTV?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 09:41 AM PDT

I have a 2 generation Apple TV and since the last update anything I stream on in it freezes a lot of the times. My other AppleTV which is the one that came out before the 4K, I have no issues with it when using it.

TV goes to black for 5-10 seconds after hitting menu?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2019 08:06 AM PDT

I recently factory reset my TV and now I'm having an issue I didn't have before. When I set my Apple TV to Dolby vision every time I hit the menu button in Netflix or Hulu etc the screen turns to black for a little bit before correcting itself. Anyone know what's happening here?
