Posted: 07 Jul 2019 07:54 AM PDT Well this is interesting. Had coffee with a developer friend recently and he mentioned that his company has noticed some interesting activity on their apple review account. He said that app review tends to take around 10-15 minutes. App review will go "in review" 4-5 hours before the first reviewer actually looks at it. Then someone will launch it and all the diagnostic logs start trickling in. They'll play with it for a bit. Launch/relaunch it a bit. Lots of force-quits. The INTERESTING thing that had said started a few weeks ago was they would notice updates would get approved/released on one day. Then consistently ~48-72 hours after release they'd see the apple review account login again and poke around. He suspected this was apple trying to catch app devs performing "review fraud", where the app's behavior changes with a server flag at a later date to try and bypass app store guidelines and such. That's all the info I really have, as we only talked about it in passing. Just thought you guys would find it interesting as I haven't seen it talked about before/it was news to me. I was just in an Apple Store while it was Robbed Posted: 07 Jul 2019 04:10 PM PDT I was just in the Apple Store on 4th St. in Oakland to pickup my 15" 2016 MacBook Pro with it's fresh new keyboard and battery, thanks to Apple's pretty generous replacement program (IMO). I held the door for 6 people, 4 men and 2 women, who were walking in an almost march together and appeared to be on a mission. I got a sinking feeling as I was behind them that they were going to rob the store, a feeling I've never had before. I started imagining what I'd do if they did. When I walked in I saw the amazing Genius that helped me, she's so nice and positive, that I immediately forgot about the feeling of impending doom. Seconds later I hear all of these loud alarms going off, and I look and those POS people I held the door for were running out of the store with their arms full of iPhones they had yanked off the the displays and broken the security cords off of, plus whatever else they could get. Everyone was standing around in shock. The staff didn't say anything. It took a few minutes for the alarms to get turned off. I asked if they got anything and they confirmed they got at least 7 iPhones from the display, plus some other stuff. They didn't have masks or anything, and one of the women had bright blue hair. These criminals didn't seem to be worried about being identified, and Apple didn't really attempt to stop them, probably to avoid alarming customers. Another Genius told me the security guard had just gone on break. If anyone at Apple security is reading this, as a loyal customer, I can tell you'd I'd much rather see you tase the crap of out these low lives than let them get away. It makes me so mad to see, and so disappointed in other humans, especially those in Berkeley, an area which I used to love, and now I don't feel safe at all. [link] [comments]

Why does Apple still sell a Fusion Drive as standard kit Posted: 07 Jul 2019 10:21 AM PDT TLDR: Fusion Drives are a solution for a problem that no longer exists. The SSD option is way overpriced. First off, no one should be installing spinning plates in their computer these days.* SSDs are cheap, mature, and much faster. Apple's Fusion Drive was a good solution seven years ago when SSD was new and expensive, but that's not the case today. A 1TB SSD is $100 on Amazon. Somehow, this is a $700 upgrade for a new iMac.** I've noticed that Apple's favorite move is overpriced storage. They've consistently done this with every product. They sell the base model with a laughable amount of storage, (or in this case, outdated technology), then bend you over for the upgrade. Good for margins, but I refuse to pay that much on principle. * ok, if you need 2TB+ of storage, and you're willing to sacrifice performance, you'd save a decent amount of money going with spinning plates. Otherwise, the market price of these components is negligible. ** yes, maybe they use a nicer component than the cheapest SSD on Amazon, but come on, $700??? Edit: corrected price of SSD on Amazon. Posted: 07 Jul 2019 08:24 PM PDT Basically, anyone that's been using iPhone since the first model came out in 2007, what was it like back then vs. now? And what would you consider the best version of iPhone? Also any opinions on the hardware changes over the years would be cool too. [link] [comments]

Does apple act consistently when releasing a new device in terms of sales? Posted: 08 Jul 2019 01:23 AM PDT Is there a trend in the decrease of apple device prices after the announcement/release of new devices, such as a consistent percentage drop in prices of older generations after the newer generations? Does apple always phase out the sale of devices that are a certain number of generations old? [link] [comments]

What would you think about Apple releasing an ereader to compete with Kindle (and other ereaders)? Posted: 07 Jul 2019 07:20 PM PDT I'm thinking it would basically be a cheaper, stripped down, version of an iPad Mini that could only read books and play audiobooks. If it was executed (and received) well, I could see it boosting sales on iBooks. [link] [comments]
