macOS Need help - After I restored from a Time Machine backup on a fresh new SSD, everytime I start up it shows the default Mojave wallpaper on the lockscreen. Once I login it loads my real wallpaper. If I put the computer to sleep and wake it up, my real wallpaper shows up.

Wireless scanning doesn't work over IPv6

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 08:40 PM PDT

I'm trying to set up my Brother multifunction to work over my wireless network. I can print to it from my Mac, but I get an error when I try to scan.

Apparently since Sierra (https://toggen.com.au/blog/it-tips/macos-sierra-scanning-fail) there's been a bug where it won't scan over IPv6, so the solution is to turn it off in the printer's settings. It does work after that, but I'm wondering if anybody else has had this issue. There are some posts and threads about it online but I'd like to know if anybody has had this broken and then fixed by updates.

It happens on both Mojave and Catalina. I filed a feedback report.

is support for Navi e-GPUS coming to MacOS?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 03:19 PM PDT

I've been using a windows PC for some gaming, but I find that I hardly turn it on and basically just play all of my games on my MBP, even if it's on bottom settings because it's just more convenient. I've been looking into e-GPUs, but before I drop some cash on some old vegas, I was wondering if it has been confirmed if navi support is coming? Google search led me to nothing.

    Thanks!

My MBP 2018 doesn't boot in Recovery Mode. Any ideas?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 01:10 PM PDT

Long story short: I installed Catalina and it was too buggy for me. I formatted the SSD and installed Mojave from an USB. Now when I press command + R it goes directly to Internet Recovery. Internet Recovery gives -9000f error. Diskutil lists a partition named Recovery that's around ~600MB. Any ideas why it does not enter in recovery mode?

    My MacOs keeps shutting down

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 03:20 PM PDT

I've had my Mac for about 2 years, and about 2 months ago it suddenly began turning off without any warning. After it would shut off it would take multiple long button presses, pulling the cord in and and out, ect...in order for it turn back on. First it started doing this maybe once a week, then once a day, every few hours, then every few minutes. We've taken my Mac into the Mac store multiple times. We've replaced the motherboard, but it still was shutting down, we bought a surge protector, still was shutting down, we bought another surge protector with a built in battery backup, still shutting down, SO we updated the operating system but of course it is still shutting down. The Mac store has run several diagnostics on it but nothing seems to be wrong. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this, and is there anyway to fix it??

QuickTime- how to preserve vertical/horizontal aspect ratios when stitching clips?

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 04:58 PM PDT

Is there a way to stitch video clips in the new Quicktime Player but also preserve the original vertical and horizontal aspect ratios of the clips? The first few in my video are horizontal and when I try inserting a clip in vertical orientation it stays in the horizontal mode while cutting off a lot of the footage from the top and bottom.

Old school Quicktime 7 Pro would respect both aspect ratios and letterbox the vertical clips with black bars left/right which I don't mind. Hoping I can achieve the same here.

TimeMachine backups take up whole drive

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 03:55 AM PDT

I've got a networked hard drive on a WD MyCloud device. It used to work great, backing up my MBP and iMac happily. However a month or two ago it filled up and both backups refused to work, so i deleted the whole backup, and left my MBP doing its thing.

Every time the progress bar reaches the end though, it decides to add another few hundred GB to the backup, and keeps going until the 2TB backup disk is full. This is despite my MBP hard drive only having 200gb data on it. My Time Machine drive already has 1TB used since starting this backup 2 days ago.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whats happening?

Here's my Storage info panel showing 149gb in use, and the backup about to reach 824gb done, and I know it'll jump up more again when its reached the end, and the available space on the Time Machine disk will fall.

In CMD + R mode, doing TM restore. Asking about destination

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 06:29 AM PDT

Last night I said what the hell and installed 10.15 public beta. At this time it's a little buggy and my normal apps crash. When I make folders in PyCharm they don't show up in the directory etc. I knew there would be issues. I'm currently trying to restore using Time Machine Restore and it's asking "Select a Destination" there are two options under this prompt. "Macintosh HD - Data" and "Macintosh HD" both say Space Available is 1TB. Which is odd cause my 2016 13in is only 512GB.

Wake Mac from sleep into a new space

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 06:27 AM PDT

Often when opening up the lid on my MacBook I have a task in mind, but immediately get distracted when my screen is filled with work / articles / whatever from my previous session.

Is there a way to wake up the mac but have it automatically open in a new Space?

That way, I can swipe left to get to the existing session, or simply start working on the task at hand in the newly created space.

    Thank you.

I need to install Kali Linux OS

    Posted: 07 Jul 2019 03:21 AM PDT

I have MacBook Pro (15-Inch, 2018) on macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

    I assume this still works?

I want to install it on a USB, so I probably need rEFInd?
