With the news of iTunes shutting down, ELI5 what exactly will change? How should I prepare? Posted: 31 May 2019 06:38 PM PDT Hi. I read on Twitter Apple is shutting down iTunes and as somebody who purchases and downloads music to my phone, who hates streaming, I'm panicking. I've built my music library from purchasing music off iTunes since I got my iPod Nano in 2007. Even when streaming started becoming big, I never participated as 1) I prefer not to pay a subscription price when I can pay the $1.29 once to own the song and 2) streaming uses cellular data when not on wifi. Few questions: • Does this mean after iTunes shuts down, I can't buy music anymore (the $1.29 once)? I'll have to pay for Apple Music if I want to listen to new music? • What will happen to the iTunes program on computers? Will those not work anymore? • How does this affect the App Store? • For my 5k+ songs library, is there anything I need to do to prepare before everything shuts down? I just really really hate this constant push for streaming. If somebody could explain to me what exactly is changing, I would sincerely appreciate it. This news for some reason has my nerves rattled. My iPhone X screen keeps creaking after Apple replaced the battery. Posted: 31 May 2019 02:35 PM PDT I had my battery replaced on my iPhone X by Apple using the out of warranty service for £65 and now the screen creaks when I use it. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Really annoying Apple Music problem Posted: 01 Jun 2019 04:23 AM PDT Basically what's happening is that Apple Music is removing songs from the bottom of my library, about 2-3 songs every few days. This includes albums and custom playlists as well. I also can't re add the songs until after deleting and re downloading them. [link] [comments] |
How can I back up an IPhone SE you that has a broken screen? Posted: 31 May 2019 06:26 PM PDT Hello :) So my problem is very simple, but I can't help but feel as if I've exhausted all the 'solutions' that my searching has yielded, so if anyone could spare the time to give some possible ideas or advice I would be incredibly appreciative. My girlfriends IPhone SE's screen is completely unresponsive, though the display still works and presents the lock screen and has no cracks, before we take it to the store to fix it she wants to back it up so as to ensure all of her data is safe (it has been a very long time since we have backed it up) . The two main solutions I've found are to use Siri, and to use a USB keyboard adaptor to unlock and manually control the phone; however, neither of these options are viable because the phone is locked- we cannot use Siri without unlocking the phone and we cannot use 'accessories' without unlocking the phone. I'm completely stumped as these are the only two methods I've found of backing up the phone to iTunes with a broken screen, I am hesitant to use third party software to back up photos primarily because most the data she wants to protect is app data that won't be recovered. Tl;dr: IPhone SE has an unresponsive screen and all methods of unlocking it to backup to iTunes require the phone to already be unlocked. Thank you for your time :) [link] [comments] |
Restore an older iOS backup from an iPhone 7 to an iPhone XR Posted: 31 May 2019 09:02 PM PDT Dear All, I am trying to restore a backup from an iPhone 7 to an iPhone XR. I backed up the iPhone 7 on my MacBook Pro mid-2012. However, as I am trying to restore the new phone to the previous backup (which was done an hour ago), I keep getting an error saying the backup is too old. My concern is the iPhone 7 did not have the newest iOS and thus the backup will not restore to the new phone. I have followed the steps on apple.com to no avail. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. [link] [comments] |

MacBook Pro audio LR problem; sound different on each channel Posted: 01 Jun 2019 02:25 AM PDT I am having an audio playback problem on my late 2018 MacBook Pro. The high-frequency response is noticeably different on the left channel relative to the right – about an octave of roll-off plus distortion. The problem is very apparent when I playback the noise bursts in Audio MIDI Setup/ speaker configuration. When I play back a triangle (virtual instrument in a DAW, for example), on one side I hear the expected transient and a pure tone, and on the other, the transient is non-existent and there is a distortion similar to comb filtering. This seems to me embedded in the master buss of the computer, since it affects playback from the internal speakers, the headphone output, and also an external audio interface. It is the same in Logic, Live, Finder and ProTools. I was on the High Sierra, but have just upgraded to Mojave in the hope of fixing it, but it has persisted. A spectrogram of the printed test audio looks as if everything is OK, so it must be playback only, not rendering. Changing sample rate has no effect. I reset NVRAM and SMC, and tried safe mode. Here is the interesting bit… I have two colleagues with similar machines who can replicate this fault, with different brands of external interfaces as well as their internal playback. Can anyone help please? iMovie: How to get vertical photos to fit Posted: 01 Jun 2019 12:22 AM PDT Hey guys, I'm trying to edit together a vacation I took with my girlfriend in iMovie. We took lots of vertical photos and just in general many photos that don't fit the 16:9 for iMovie, meaning a lot of 'Ken Burns' effect shots have been defaulted when I drop them into the project. I've tried cropping (expanding) the photos to fit the screen, so that the vertical photos will take up the whole screen but will have black borders for instance. However, this doesn't seem to be a straightforward thing to do. Any suggestions? Should I give up editing on iMovie? I saw some videos online recommending I download photo apps to maneuver my way through this issue but I have a thousand plus photos... Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |

At my wits end with Macbook Air Posted: 31 May 2019 06:54 PM PDT I have a Macbook Air, mid 2011 model, 4gb ram, 125gb hard drive For years it worked perfectly fine, within the past year it has become maddeningly laggy. Every few minutes the fan will ramp up, everything will slow to being essentially frozen for 30-60 seconds, then fan will kick down and it will run normal. This is in a climate controlled environment generally in the 60 degree range. I pulled off the back and checked the fan/components for dust build up. Replaced the battery with a brand new one. Ran disk utility and found no problems. I tried completely wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the current OS, had no effect. Tried changing from Safari to Firefox and then back again, no effect. After some research it appeared that running High Sierra on older MacBooks could lead to problems, so i wipe it again and installed El Capitan...still the same problems. Even right after a fresh wipe/install with zero apps/programs open and just staring at the bare desktop it will still happen. With High Sierra "kernel task" was the culprit according to activity monitor, now with El Cap it will be any random process, sometimes activity monitor itself will be taking up 150% of the CPU. I guess i have two questions: 1.) Could the RAM somehow "go bad"? As frustrated as i am with it, I'm very curious as to WHY this is happening. 2.) At this point is there anything i can try that i haven't already that would help? Greatly appreciate any wisdom you guys might have [link] [comments] |
Should I unpack my Airport Time Capsule to update it? Posted: 31 May 2019 06:14 PM PDT A few weeks ago, I decided to get rid of all my old devices. They aren't physically gone yet, but I did a factory reset on them. One device was an AirPort Time Capsule. I erased the profiles and the hard drive. Now a "AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.9.1" is in the list of Apple security updates. It includes a vulnerability regarding "A base station factory reset may not delete all user information". Should I unpack the TC just to update its firmware and re-erase everything? Or just leave it in the closet and bump the problem to the next guy (although it's my information at risk)? Contacts from gmail to Apple without gmail? Posted: 31 May 2019 09:57 PM PDT Hi. Maybe a really dumb novice question.. but I am dumping my gmail account and wasn't sure how to handle my contacts. I have my contacts exported already, but wasn't sure where to put them so my iPhone can still utilize them. If I import them to my newest email provider (I think protonmail or tutanota) will it show up in my "contacts" on my iphone? I wish Apple had an email service where I could import them. Any help is really appreciated! I'm scared to delete my gmail and contacts before successfully importing said contacts but I'm not sure how to verify that I in fact imported them properly prior to deleting gmail.. since I don't know if the contacts imported until I did delete the gmail. Hope this makes sense. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 May 2019 09:19 PM PDT Hi everyone! I have an iPhone 7+ with a microphone that doesn't work at all. It just stopped yesterday afternoon. I shut down my phone. It froze when it started up (stuck on the shutting on screen with full white and black apple logo). It's been happening every time I shut it down. I'm not sure if those are related though. I can hear videos and media fine on my phone, but I can't hear the other end of the line on a phone call, same with the other side. When I go on siri it's just on the regular tap to speak thing. Every time I tap it, it goes to the hearing for a second and back. Any tips will help! I'll go to the genius desk the day after tomorrow. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Anyone here have a 2015 MBP 15" with IG over 2019? Posted: 31 May 2019 09:10 PM PDT Can you guys tell me how the machine handles a 4K display? I know from the tech specs that it is rated for 4K at 60hz via TB2. I'm particularly noise sensitive and I want to know if the fans ramp up when using it with a 4K display. Here's what I usually have open at once: Excel, 10+ browser windows including YouTube, iTunes, PDF previews, and sometimes PostGres. I currently have a mid-2014 MBP 13" with only 8GB of RAM. It feels a bit slow but it is silent. I'm looking to upgrade to either a mid-2015 15" or the new 2019 15" with the key factor being noise and 4K support. If you have experience with either the 2015 or 2019/2018/2017/2016 models, please let me know your experience (besides the keyboard issue). Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 May 2019 04:02 PM PDT Ok, to break this down, I've had these airpods for 2 months now. They are gen 1 and I just recently started having this problem (for extra context, I left them out one day on accident on my bed and they died 100%) I've never had this problem until yesterday. I keep my hey Siri off, auto mic detection, no ear detection. I e also reset them a couple times, which did nothing. I wouldn't mind if it was 1-10 percent difference, but my left AirPod almost always dies 2x faster than the right. Most of the time when I check, it's R:60 L:30 (most of the time) Edit: here's 3-4 hours of listening at about 60% volume https://imgur.com/a/fylvEA9 [link] [comments] |

Should I get 256GB or 512GB storage on MacBook Pro Posted: 31 May 2019 06:35 PM PDT I'm debating between getting 256 or 512GB of storage on a MacBook Pro I'll be purchasing soon. On my current Mac, I've got about 200GB available of 251GB storage.. so I feel I'd be fine with 256GB. I'm just not sure if there's a big reason OTHER than say photos/videos to need that much storage. For example, if I were to be running Photoshop on my laptop -- does the storage have anything to do with performance or no? [link] [comments] |
iTunes offers 2 options for renting or buying movies - what's the diff ?? Posted: 31 May 2019 12:32 PM PDT Both rent options & both buy options = same price, while also appearing identical. And there's nothing to click-on that tells ya' if it's 720 or 1080p . . or HD or not, or . . . what is the damn diff ?? [link] [comments] |
A stranger answered my incoming FaceTime call in my place Posted: 31 May 2019 12:43 AM PDT My partner called me over lunch thru FaceTime audio. I saw the call pop up on my laptop and just as I was about to click to answer, the box went away. It didn't ring for a long time, so I quickly shot off a text asking if he had called the wrong number. I got no answer and assumed he meant to call someone else. When he got home he asked if I was joking. I didn't understand. He said that 'a guy with a French accent' answered and told him he called the wrong number and that he was not (my name), laughing a little. My boyfriend also says it was my contact on his phone screen and call history. He thought I was pulling a joke. I had no idea what had happened. I am confused and frankly a little bit scared. Google is showing me a few cases like this -- what the hell happened? [link] [comments] |
Should I Use Apple's Trade In Program? Posted: 31 May 2019 06:21 PM PDT I have two old Apple devices: an iPad Mini 2 16 GB and a late 2011 iMac 21.5". Obviously at the time (2011 and 2012), I spent a pretty penny for these devices. After MacOS updates, these machines are useless and outdated and I'd rather have cash. The problem: Apple is going to give me ~$110 for both devices; $40 for the iMac and $70 for the iPad Mini. Should I let go of my devices for this or are there any options in earning money back towards new devices? [link] [comments] |
