Any "fake" printer drivers for generating PDF? Save as PDF and Open with Preview not an option because of annoying Adobe Acrobat DC

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 07:30 PM PST

Hello! I need to print a form, which is in some sort of hardcore PDF document container that won't let itself t be saved as a PDF using the standard print dialog because it appears to be intentionally "locked down" by Adobe Acrobat DC, which is the only PDF reader that appears to read the document format.

Unfortunate the only printer I have access to is a community networked printer that (to keep things simple) requires the document be uploaded to the printer. But the printer also doesn't appear to support the hardcore PDF format. So what I need to do is convert the PDF to a simpler PDF format. I'm hoping somebody reading this understands what I'm saying or I might sound crazy :).

Generally I would just do something like print from the application, and select "open in preview" or "save as PDF", but apparently the format metadata properties doesn't allow that.

I'm hoping somebody here might have a printer driver that would act as a "real" printer, but actually save the document as a PDF that I can take and do something with.

I actually noticed that Send to Kindle is a printer driver that comes with the app of the same name, and this appears to actually produce a PDF, but I believe it's sent right to Amazon and I'm not sure if it's possible to download it as a PDF from there (it used to be possible, but I can't seem to find the option with the current Cloud storage setup).

    Thanks for any help!

Well, I ended up using https://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfwriterformac/reviews/?sort=created_date&stars=0#reviews-n-ratings - this worked and did what I want! Thank you all for your help!

Login Items needs a BLOCK feature

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 04:39 PM PST

On macOS there are certain apps which will automatically add themselves into the Login Items every time they launch. It is annoying to need to go in manually every time and remove them. Please add a block feature to stop this from happening on macOS. As of right now the user isn't told if an app adds itself to the Login Items on its own, and there's no way to block an app from adding itself to the Login Items.

Whatever draws your attention in may be a distraction- keep your eyes on the little details

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 01:24 AM PST

My devices have been compromised for about 6 months along with other happenings that are off topic here . So I decided to do the full on MOAD (mother of all deleted ) and did the 7x drive erase. After 14+- hours it finished and I then without hesitation started encryption. After this was done (another 14ish hours ) I downloaded and updated to Mojave' thru apple trusted server .

It had me click and drag as if it was an app, which was strange to me but I didn't think much into that , I then ran the OS update and something didn't happen that normally does -

    I almost missed it

It didn't have me agree to the user agreement or terms which is standard regardless of time between installs . Within an hour the colors on my iPad are not the right hue my X is having different volume and key tones and vibrations at random and my XR is prompting me , without cause to enter passwords .

At this point I know what's happened so I entertain it and enter a password and as usual with a key logger . No matter what it says first password entry is wrong when I know for a fact it was correct

Ok blah blah what's the point of this story ... (be advised I am not implying that the CIA is doing this, if the tech is real then others will also have )

I started researching my specific happenings and found this a perfect description of the hack method used on OSX also why no matter what I do I never boot clean .

"July 27th 2017, WikiLeaks publishes documents from the Imperial project of the CIA.

Achilles is a capability that provides an operator the ability to trojan an OS X disk image (.dmg) installer with one or more desired operator specified executables for a one-time execution.

Aeris is an automated implant written in C that supports a number of POSIX-based systems (Debian, RHEL, Solaris, FreeBSD, CentOS). It supports automated file exfiltration, configurable beacon interval and jitter, standalone and Collide-based HTTPS LP support and SMTP protocol support - all with TLS encrypted communications with mutual authentication. It is compatible with the NOD Cryptographic Specification and provides structured command and control that is similar to that used by several Windows implants.

SeaPea is an OS X Rootkit that provides stealth and tool launching capabilities. It hides files/directories, socket connections and/or processes. It runs on Mac OSX"

wiki leaks released CIA files over last few years

Moral of story - apple I will give you this machine so you can analyze and fix your holes and you can provide me with a new uncompromised machine and some protection

Create a black screen when connecting to a display

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 05:59 PM PST

When I connect my mac to a TV, I'd like to see a black screen. The reason is that I have no use for the desktop environment on a TV, myself sitting feets away on the couch - I only use the TV to launch TV-sized apps like Kodi (which I do so with my phone) and I'd like a cleaner transition.

On Windows I used to have a simple AHK script that did it. It would run in the background and whenever it detected that a display was connected, it would render a black image. I'm hoping something similar can be done here, but any help is appreciated.

Mail.app filter rules to iOS Mail

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 09:24 AM PST

Is it possible to automatically sync the filter rules created in MacOS Mail.app to iOS Mail also ? Quite annoying that if I get my new mail in phone before MacOS and open them... the filters will never get applied that where set in MacOS. Would love for them to sync up and work seamlessly.

    [help] renaming without touching extension

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 08:38 AM PST

Hello, I just changed my Mac with a new one and I can't figure out how to rename a file without including the extension of it and I also having hard time googling it.

Back in my old Mac, I was used to pressing "Enter" on a file and rename it, the extension of the file was unselected

ex. selecting and pressing enter on File.app, only "File" was selected and could be renamed

Update iOS via iTunes without backing up

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 05:04 AM PST

Is there a way to update an iOS device via iTunes and bypass the backup that iTunes tries to do?? Because I have nearly 150GB taken on my iPhone and every time I want to update it via iTunes is a pain to free 150-200GB from my mac to do the fucking backup and then get the files back where they was before, and on top of that, I have an iCloud backup so a local backup is useless even if something goes wrong...

New 2017 MacBook Air, cannot update to 10.14.2

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 08:50 AM PST

    Hi all,

i bought today a new 2017 macbook air, after configured it, it has notified a system update to 10.14.2 (now i'm at 10.14)

The issue is that if i try to update from the settings, i receive this message https://i.imgur.com/iaHYGg3.png that simply said there is an error.

So i've tried downloading the file from here https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1986?locale=it_IT but during the install i'm stuck at this screen because i cannot select my disk https://i.imgur.com/dZO7pYT.png because it does not have the requirements

    Any advice guys?

Mojave (10.14.2) freezes and restarts when ram is full

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 11:54 AM PST

As title states, I'm experiencing issues with my imac 2017 4k (8gb ram, i5 7400). Whenever I'm working with any file that is large-ish in size (high res photoshop document for example) and I get close to my ram capacity, machine freezes and restarts. Has anyone experienced this?

I'm running Mojave on the external SSD, High sierra on the internal hdd - no issues with high sierra.

    10.14.3 beta stability?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 11:44 AM PST

I'm having issues with my imac 2017 4k and mojave 10.4.2, it keeps freezing and restarting any time I'm close to ram limit instead of just slowing down like it does in high sierra. I saw people reporting that 10.4.3 fixed it (possibly), want to try.

has anyone tested the beta build, is it stable enough for a daily driver?

    Mac OS High Sierra

    Posted: 22 Dec 2018 02:00 AM PST

I'm on El Capitan on my 2013 iMac and on Sierra 2014 MacBook Pro... can I just jump to high Sierra and forgot about Mojave? Or do I need to install Mojave. I see there's still security updates for high Sierra and will probably be there for another 2 years or so. Just don't want to take the risk of slowing down my macs
