Still worth it to buy an iPhone 6s Plus?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 08:50 AM PST

As the title suggests, I want to get my dad an iPhone 6s Plus. I have a few reasons.

    1. still has a headphone jack
    2. he's been stuck with a shitty Android (Samsung J7?!)

Those two are the biggest reasons. He doesn't use his phone much. But the crappy Samsung is somehow unreliable as hell. I would like him to get away from Android since he is rather NOT tech savvy and imo it's a lot harder to screw up an iPhone with random apps and software like you can on Android (unless you know what you're doing)

Big appeal to the 6S is price and the headphone jack. But I'm wary since it is a 3 year old model at this point. I understand apple supports their stuff for a lot longer but that's my only hold up.

Also is there any cheaper way to get one instead of directly through Verizon? (For a brand new one).

[Question] How to find out what network my iphone 7+ is?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 06:54 AM PST

I bought an iphone 7+ unlocked from ebay last year. I tried it with different sims to make sure it was unlocked.

I then left it as I felt it was too large for me and carried on using the i6. But today I swapped sim back into the i7+ and is saying to put in a compatible sim to use it.

How did it going from unlocked to locked? How do I find out what sim network it is locked too please?

Am I crazy for wanting to go to the XR from the X?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 09:38 AM PST

    Hey Everyone,

I have an ATT iPhone x silver 256 gb, I'm looking to sell it after using the iPhone XR at the apple store, I like the bigger screen BUT also that it's manageable in one hand (the max isn't, hurts my pinky with the weight) and that the apple tech told me that the XR had a better battery life albeit with a lower screen resolution.

I didn't get to use it enough to see but, anyone here who noticed a difference in a phone with 326 ppi vs 458?

    My interest is

-The bigger screen, I like to have more content on my screen

-Use the GPS and like having a slightly bigger map, combined with my poor vision

-Longer battery life, extremely important because I use my phone a LOT

    My concerns

-Resale value, my iPhone X is worth more than the XR now, I don't want the phone to lose value in a few years, I had an experience when I was trying ot sell my 5C where it was seen by many as the budget iphone, and therefore not something people were interested in. I eventually donated because not 18 months after the 5C was released I was getting offered for $50-$100 bucks which wasn't acceptable.

-Screen quality, I don't care about having a kickass screen, I worry about if I will notice a drop in quality, and if there's any concerns about LCD vs OLED? When I got the X I remember EVERYONE saying the screen on the X would burn in, a year later that is not the case, and given how often I use the GPS I would really expect it to have happened by now

-Camera quality, I'm not a camera-phile BUT sometimes my wife will want to borrow it for a photo if her phone isn't available, I don't expect it to be as good as the X, I noticed it was smaller (very small camera bulge) but I don't want the photos to be so starkly different that I find myself wishing I'd kept the X.

It goes without saying, if anyone's interested in my iPhone X, let me know! Some scuffs along the band going around the phone, and on the camera but not noticeable unless your'e looking real close (3 inches from the phone) and no physical damage, just scuffs from being in my pocket or on the table, don't use a case because reasons.

Thanks everyone! Really hoping to hear from people who have used both the X and XR extensively or at least enough to give me some honest feedback on what to do. Keep the X or get the XR??

Issue with people not getting pictures

It started yesterday, but my friend can no longer see the pictures I send him. Is there a reason for this? Or is it just an issue right now?

Why haven’t Apple updated the Bluetooth settings menu?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 01:42 PM PST

Since the removal of the headphone jack it's become expected that user will need to have Bluetooth audio devices. Despite this the settings menu for Bluetooth hasn't changed and still requires users to go through settings, go to the sub menu, select a device to open a new menu, then finally choose to connect or disconnect the device. It's inefficient and frustrating.

Surely we should be able to manage Bluetooth devices from control centre by now?

    Live wallpaper on XR

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 12:31 AM PST

I just found out the XR does not support live wallpapers. Pretty odd considering live photo playback is supported with haptic press. Could Apple just not do the same for live wallpapers? It'd be a nice little QoL update for haptic touch.

Considering buying a used phone and feeling nervous - here’s what I know

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 07:53 AM PST

I've been wanting to upgrade from my iPhone 7 to an xr for a while now but I can't afford full retail, even with the $250 back in trade so I've been scouring sites for a used deal.

Last night an xr popped up on Craigslist for $500. I've been emailing and texting with the guy and it seems legit, but I know there is always risk involved.

I'm Trying to get a sense for wether or not the risk outweighs the extra $300 I'd pay for a new phone. The guy seems as trustworthy as an internet stranger can be, but I may be biased because I want the dumb phone.

He sent me a picture of the box so I've checked the imei and it's clean. I also ran the serial number on Apple and found that the phone was never registered. One thing that has me concerned is that the guy says he received it as a gift and does not have any paperwork. However, he does have the box and all of the original contents.

What do you think I should do? Are there other questions that need to be answered?

Low Audio Volume Through Car Bluetooth (Bluetooth 4.0 dongle)

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 07:26 AM PST

My XS Max is my very first iPhone ever, and while there were some growing pains, I've adjusted nicely and I am enjoying it. But if there was one thing I haven't been able to figure out, it's why my Bluetooth calls are coming in such low volume.

    Bluetooth Dongle

This is what I've had in my car for 3 years... Worked well on my S7 and my Note 8, but on this iPhone everything comes in low. The Bluetooth volume on my phone is cranked as high as it can be, and I still have to crank the car volume as high as 30-40 (12-14 is a comfortable music volume, also played through this dongle in my car). It happens when I speak to my mother, who has a Samsung J7, or with my wife who also has an XS Max, so it isn't just older or specific phones giving me this trouble.

Anyone out there have any ideas?

Keep or trade in old iPhone?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 07:17 AM PST

Those of you who recently got new iPhones, did you trade in or keep your old device? Currently have a 6S and will upgrade to Xr at some point. Best Buy offers up to $120 for 6S 128GB. For those keeping your old iPhones, what do you intend to do with it?

iPhone X Safari: back button vs. swiping back

    Posted: 31 Dec 2018 03:51 AM PST

Hey, all! Quick question for ya...

CLARIFYING EDIT: I'm NOT asking which method people use or prefer like many commenters seem to be addressing. Rather, I am asking if others' back buttons are much more responsive, and quicker to load the previous page, than the gesture is since it's what I'm experiencing on my device.

I recently noticed that, while browsing the web on Safari, using the back arrow at the bottom left to go back a page is MUCH quicker/more responsive than using the gesture (swiping right from the left edge of the screen) to do the same thing.

Has anyone else encountered this? I don't know if it's a consistent iOS quirk or if it's some setting I have enabled/disabled that's causing this issue. Would greatly appreciate any insight!
