    Beware games from Chinese devs

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 04:47 AM PST

    First, a few knowledge bits:

    • China cashes out a lot from remaking copy-paste games with shit translation work.

    • Depending on the country, if you aren't a corporation, you may be limited to registering your games under your own personal name or under special names. In China it seems that at least they cannot scam under false name (and hide their Chinese identity)

    • Recently AppStore changed from displaying the dev team name to the game genre (you now have to press this text to see the dev)

China is hacking their way into the top apps in many different countries. I made a post about this but it seemed like many gamers didn't realize nor find anything unusual so I prepared a few screenshots from the Canadian Store:

Exhibit 1: We have an extremely high ranked yet unknown game by a Chinese called Ying Zhao

Exhibit 2: Under the same name, yet another top ranked game that almost no one has ever heard about.

Exhibit 3 & Exhibit 4: Woops? New devs apparently with the same exact name each with just a sole game, top ranked in their respective categories. Both games are badly translated reskins with predatory IAPs and inflated ratings, which would never make it anywhere in the top100 naturally, and which will disappear from there in the next few weeks (after normal prey-victim players stumble on them and give actual fair ratings etc) and while other Chinese games will replace them, rinse and repeat.

As someone who've been paying a shameful amount of attention on what's going on with the gaming markets and China's, sorry for the lack of a better word: "invasion", in other countries' markets. I just want to warn you that fishy stuff is going on and wishes that if you do play and pay in those predatory types of games with first-purchases, monthly subscriptions, time-offers, etc etc, IAPs-flooded games, please at least pick games that aren't from those suspicious Chinese accounts.

Checked out my Wishlist app this morning and noticed these two games had a pretty decent price drop.

Figured I'd let you all know since they've been mentioned in a few game suggestion posts here. Happy Holidays!

Official post for game sale updates?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 07:20 AM PST

Can we keep posting new ones here? Or is there one already. Maybe so we can make reminders if something goes on sale.

I'm hoping for Oddmar and the Grand Theft Auto games. Mario Run would be nice also.

Weekly /r/iOSGaming Discussion - What have you been playing lately and what do you recommend? - December 24, 2018

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 08:07 PM PST

Please use this thread to discuss whatever iOS games you've been playing lately. They don't have to be new games, they can be old games and they do not have to be iOS original titles!

As long as it's an iOS game it belongs in here. Make sure to put the name(s) of the game(s) in bold to make it easier for people skimming the thread to see what you're talking about, and if you'd like to make it really convenient turn the game name into a hyperlink that sends people directly to the App Store!

To keep track of the thread, the comments are sorted by "new" by default.

    Find previous weekly threads here.

Is it ok to just jump into Sorcery 3?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 09:14 PM PST

Hi guys, I'm just wondering what you would miss if you just jump into Sorcery 3 instead of loading a Sorcery 2 save.

I have finished Sorcery 1 and 2 so I know the basic story. It's just that I lost my saves so I don't want to replay 1 and 2 just to load my save to 3.

As far as I know loading a save allows you to keep good weapons and items. But does the difficulty scale up if you load a save, or the difficulty stays the same so the new game is more difficult if you don't load a save? Thanks in advance.

Found my dream game, finished it, the journey starts again.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2018 04:04 AM PST

So I just finished Galaxy of Pen and Paper, and it was amazing. It's the only game I would describe as "one of my favourite games" as opposed to "one of my favourite iPhone games."

Now I need something to fill the void. I've been tiding myself over by catching up on my Marvel subscriptions but I need something to play.

The only other iPhone game I've ever played at any length was Pokémon Duel, but eventually it just got a bit old.

Are the Final Fantasy Mobile Ports worth it over the PC Ports?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 06:55 PM PST

As far as i'm aware the Steam versions of games like FF6 and FF9 are literally ported from the phones. Are the versions on mobile worth it for the convenience over PC for "comfort"? (Since you don't have to use touch controls)

Does anyone remember a 2d tower defense pixel game with giant tree monsters vs demons (maybe aliens or something) ?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2018 05:33 PM PST

It was not Isometric and it had a gritty detailed pixel art style.
