TouchID broke during Apple repair, suggested solution is that I pay for a display replacement (160€) Posted: 24 Dec 2018 01:32 AM PST To be fair Apple isn't fully responsible for the whole story, but isn't cooperative either. Sorry for the lenght of this, but i also need kind of a vent. I decided to bring in my iPhone 6 Plus for a battery replacement while Apple is offering a lower rate (29€ instead of 49€ for rest of the year). So i booked an appointment at a regular Apple Store (in Germany, where i live), drove there and left my iPhone. The Apple Store employee ran a diagnostics software to check the functionality of the phone. The result was that the ambient sensor wasn't working correctly everything else was fine. I was a bit surprised by that, because i hadn't noticed this while using it the last few months. The employee asked me if the phone had been repaired before which i couldn't answer because I got it as a gift earlier this year (used but in nearly perfect condition). A week later i called the Store because I hadn't received a collection confirmation for the pick up. The employee on the phone said it was ready. I went there and got told that they didn't replace the battery because it wasn't an original one from Apple. Over the last week I waited for the repair I read a few articles of this whole battery replacement topic because I was concerned that my phone had been repaired before I got it. So the repair rejection wasn't a huge surprise for me. I quickly checked if the Phone was working (starting and camera) and left. When I inserted the SIM card later that day I noticed, that TouchID wasn't working. I checked the settings and it was still activated and had stored my two prints. So I tried to add a third one with no success. First thing I did was to call the store, the employee couldn't help me and said i should get a new appointment. I checked online and there were none availible. I phoned the regular Apple support line and got told again to make an appointment and i should check till there is something availible (Thanks for nothing i guess). To have some proof that i tried to contact them I did the same thing via chat. The chat employee offered to book an appointment for me but after a while answered that there wasn't one availible. How can this be a thing that an employee can't give you an appointment at any time in the future? I checked the availibly appointments for the rest of the day and finally got one at saturday 22th afternoon (last day for holiday shopping in a mall, FML). I got there, it was crowded but surprisingly I didn't have to wait long (i guess this is one advantage of those damn appointments). I outlined my case and to my surprise got offered that they replace my whole screen which i have to pay for. The regular rate of 160€ for my Phone Model, no accommodating, nothing. I guess I could be lucky that they touch my phone at all after the fact that they declined the battery replacement for safety concerns. The employee argued that i had signed there terms which stated that they aren't liable for damages in case of third party replacements. Obviously my mistake, i guess I had to take the time and sit there an hour and read the whole thing? Employee #1 to who i gave my Phone to the first time could have told me this because he already had the concern that it had been repaired. (but didn't care?) The employee which offered me the phenomenal deal for the display replacement looked at the phone and showed me, that you can easily distinguish between original and third party by the look of the sensor above the phone speaker. Why couldn't employee #1 do this if it is so obvious. And why is there diagnostics software unable to detect third party parts? The peak of this conversation was that he presumed that I fixed the phone my self. If I was able to do that or wanted to spend the time and risk it or if i even knew that my phone was repaired, why should I spend time, money and energy into this none-sense. So to sum up, it's the worst encounter with Apple support I ever had. The employees i talked to didn't care about my problem or blame it fully on me. I'm here to give a warning and keeping you from making the same mistake(s) i did. Do you have an idea what i could do to fix my phone? I looked into the ifixit guides and it seems to be doable, did anybody tried to replace the screen and battery for themselves? Thanks and happy holiday. [link] [comments]

Is anyone else forced to restart their Xs after losing signal to regain it? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 09:34 AM PST I've owned numerous iPhones over the years and they would always reconnect after losing signal. Since getting the Xs at launch I'm forced to reset the phone to get a signal again. Turning data/WiFi/airplane mode on and off won't cause it to reconnect either. [link] [comments]

Why does the music in Geometry dash sound so much better in the game than the raw file? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 09:20 AM PST I was playing geometry dash yesterday, and I noticed that the game music sounded really good, it sounded amazing on the phone speakers. I later then extracted the raw audio file from the IPA and it sounded far worse, why? [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Dec 2018 03:49 AM PST I have a somewhat stupid question ... But whats the drawback if i stay on an older ios version and refuse to update (for example still using ios 12 on my 6s in a few years). I dont do any online banking or shopping on my phone, dont play demanding games, dont have a plethora of apps, and really only use my iPhone as a phone, for texting (iMessage/Whatsapp) and as an iPod/music player. So, given this use pattern, then what exactly is the drawback to not updating? What incentive is there, for "minimalist" users like me, to update? Because it seems to me that the possible negatives (shorter battery, slower os, etc.) outweigh the positives? Thanks everyone! [link] [comments]

Is there a way to hide your previous subscriptions under your Apple ID Posted: 24 Dec 2018 07:36 AM PST I was subscribed to Tinder a while ago and now I'm no longer subscribed to it and want to hide it from the list but there doesn't seem to be any way to do that. Does anybody know a way around it? [link] [comments]
How to delete everything without factory reset? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 07:30 AM PST I have an unlocked iPhone that can be used on any GSM currently. I'm going to give it to my mom but I want to factory reset it before I do. I know factory reset will lose the factory unlock, so I s there a way to mass delete everything while still keeping it unlocked? [link] [comments]

Does anyone else's Xs or Xs Max top speaker stop playing? Is there a fix for this yet? Posted: 24 Dec 2018 10:23 AM PST Every once in a while my top speaker will stop working. It still works to take a call and even put it on speaker, but if I play music through spotify or watch a youtube video, sound will only come out of the bottom speaker. The problem goes away once I restart my phone but continues to come back. From what I've seen it has something to do with when it connects to bluetooth, and it always connects to my car when I drive, and sometimes if I'm parked I will change the output device from my car to my phone to watch a video (because of the delay in sound over bluetooth) I haven't noticed if that consistently causes it or not, but it has happened without me having to do that before as well. Posted: 24 Dec 2018 09:55 AM PST Debating on which way to go. I have the 7S and I love the wider size especially when I'm watching YouTube, Netflix, etc....websites are easier to navigate, but it's obviously a bit harder to handle with one hand. The XS seems narrower so it may be the same as the iPhone 7 for example. It's longer top to bottom, but my concern is which is better for videos especially. [link] [comments]

Regrettably got an S9 a few months ago Posted: 23 Dec 2018 01:25 PM PST hey yall had been a loyal iPhone consumer since the 4, last phone was a 6s. loved that thing. For some reason, when I had my most recent device update, I thought I would try an S9. I have had it since August, and I'm missing my iPhone so much. I'm almost about to trade in my s9 and just keep using my 6s with a new battery. typing is the biggest thing for me- all the keyboards for Android (Google keyboard, swiftkey, chromeo, swiftly, etc etc) do not respond nearly as well as the iPhone. no imessage was a bigger deal than I thought, constant glitches with apps, things randomly crashing. it's a mess. the customizations are nice, but are nowhere near enough to warrant the steady stream of problems to fix. just ranting. tried to trade in my phone but the 330 trade in value isn't enough to help me get a new one. ugh [link] [comments] |
