I need help and ASAP (2017 macbook pro vs 2018 macbook air)

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 06:14 PM PST

I had already commented on the megapost, but it seems kinda dead so I'll just post the specifics here-

Student going to university here. Looking towards buying a macbook for work (docs, spreadsheets, notes), leisure (youtube, netflix), and MAYBE a little league of legends. Currently interested in 2018 13 inch Macbook Air and 2017 13 inch Macbook pro without the touchbar.. I would've decided on the latter, but I heard the 2.0 keyboards have a problem with accumulating dust, and then becoming unresponsive and I'm not ready to put down 1.3k just to encounter a problem like that. Also I'm Toronto based so if anyone finds any good black Friday deals be sure to let me know, thank you in advance!

Comprehensive list of every MacBook Pros hardware, software and firmware issues!

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 02:54 AM PST

Hi everyone! I might be kind of a pain in the ass with all those posts about macOS and MBPs issues but, you know, paying 3.5k for a laptop and noticing more and more flaws while using it, it freaks me out a bit. Therefore, I was thinking about a thread where everyone could comment with all those issues, flaws and bugs experienced while using Apple laptops. I will be constantly reading each new comment in order to update this list. The aim is to let Apple (most likely it is not going to happen) know about those major and minor issues its customers are having. I know it's a high bet but trying won't kill anyone.

    Let's begin!

    Issue #1 (15" 2018 MBP i7 16GB 512GB Radeon 560X, macOS Mojave 10.14.1)

Closing the lid at 11.50 PM, battery remaining 49%. Waking it up the next morning at 9.50 AM, it completely ran out of battery and it won't boot up until I close the lid again, plug the charging cable and reopen the lid. It even didn't request to be plugged in.

    Issue #2 (15" 2018 MBP i7 16GB 512GB Radeon 560X, macOS Mojave 10.14.1)

The MBP is sleeping with the lid opened, I plug in the HyperDrive 8-in-1 USB-C Hub and press a key to wake it up. It first wakes up the display but simultaneously the fans begin spinning as fast as hell and finally the computer shuts down. Booting it up again, it shows an alert saying there was a problem.

    Issue #3 (15" 2018 MBP i7 16GB 512GB Radeon 560X, macOS Mojave 10.14.1, Safari 12.0.1)

Enabling subtitles on Netflix causes the video to flicker until you disable them.

I hope this post will be of some help!

Battery issues on multiple MacBooks since Mojave

    Posted: 22 Nov 2018 08:01 AM PST

Since Mojave, both mine and my girlfriends MacBooks (13" 2013 & 13" 2015) has started to lose a lot of battery both while in sleep mode and generally. Has Apple acknowledged these issues, or is there any fix to this?

Otherwise, have people had luck in restoring an older OS, such as Sierra/HS, or is this a large endeavour?

Does anyone have any experience with Macbook Pro Touchbar display assemblies from Aliexpress. Are they the same panels, just refurbished screens? Or are they something else?

Is it ok to configure Mac's Fan Control that way? [MacBook Pro 13" 2017]

Is it ok to configure Mac's Fan Control that way? [MacBook Pro 13" 2017]

It was much warmer with default system fan settings than with Mac's Fan Control (fan speed was often 0 till it reached >50C). Now CPU Proximity is about 40-55C, depends on what I'm doing (I usually work with Safari and Google Docs). Is that sensor ok to base on it? Are these default temperatures safe for my Mac?

Why default system fan settings let MacBook being so hot?
