Accidentally locked out of my new phone during setup. Posted: 22 Nov 2018 08:31 AM PST Good morning to all and Happy Thanksgiving for those who observe, I have an issue. Yesterday evening I got the new IPhone XS Max from my mobile provider. Once I got home I went to iTunes to set up my new phone and went through all of the initial setting and info including passcode. This is where the problem begins. I never use a passcode (or any sort of locking feature), I never have because I have always seen it as cumbersome but that's not the point. For some reason once I plugged my phone into my PC to connect with iTunes, I decided to add a passcode that I could just disable later on due to the prompt on my new phone followed by my device asking for my iTunes account login. I input the passcode once to set it, and then when prompted to re-enter it I did so correctly as I was not notified that both passcode entries didn't correspond with one another so as far as i am aware my passcode is what I wanted it to be at the time. After that I went to iTunes to restore my phone from the previous backup which prompted me to turn off "Find My IPhone" which I did, and then iTunes told me that it cannot restore the backup due to a passcode being on the phone. Okay, no problem let me just unlock it and disable the passcode. I enter the passcode as I believed it to be and my phone did not unlock. I tried again and again until my phone was disabled for x amount of time. I went through the motions of googling solutions and found "RECOVERY MODE" and something called "DFU MODE" which in the forum i read stated that DFU Mode will always work. Recovery mode did not work as it didn't reset the phone to factory settings and DFU mode worked until I received an unknown error code 4013 which apparently is a disconnection between the device's USB and the USB connector or drive or something of that nature. This is a brand new cable that came with the phone so why I'm having that issue as well I have no idea. Currently I have connected to a different USB drive and am in the process of DFU Mode once again. Is there any way that I can fix this issue aside from some of the unhelpful things I've read like "download this software to bypass iPhone passcodes" or "try this restore mode but disable all of your antivirus and firewall first." It's also Thanksgiving here in the good ol' US of A so my mobile provider is closed today and none of the stores that can help such as Best Buy don't open until 5pm today and I really don't feel like standing in line for hours outside just to have some tech support employee perform a simple action that for whatever reason is not available to find with a simple google search. Apple Pencil (2015) lightning/charger connector broke off Posted: 22 Nov 2018 09:28 PM PST I always charged my pencil straight from the ipad, which surprise surprise, eventually caused the connector to break off when I accidentally moved it towards the pillow. But its not the thin piece of metal that I'm talking about. Its the entire metal part that I assume connects the port to the battery, including the wire ribbon thing. Its all in one piece, and the plastic on the pen only has 2 small cracks with no plastic breaking off. The pencil still works perfectly fine, but I'm now unable to charge it. I've tried carefully putting the connector back in, but the pencil isn't charging. I would really like to get this pen fix since I actually have a lot of stuff to do with the pen and don't want to wait to get it replaced. [link] [comments] |
Should I use APFS for an external hard drive (non-SSD) for Time Machine? Posted: 22 Nov 2018 09:27 PM PST I know APFS is optimized for SSD, but does it offer any advantages for non-SSD hd's? Or is Mac OS Extended (HFS) for this purpose still the way to go? [link] [comments] |
Why doesn’t my message go though to the other person? Am I truly blocked? Posted: 22 Nov 2018 09:06 PM PST It never says delivered. We both have apple devices. Updated Macbook is asking for passcode used to unlock my iphone but it's saying it's not correct Posted: 22 Nov 2018 08:17 PM PST Just updated my macbook and after putting in my info for my icloud account, it's asking me to enter the passcode used to unlock my iphone. It's not asking for the temporary passcode it sends when logging in with a new device, but my actual passcode. Problem is it won't accept it. [link] [comments] |
Can I use my Macbook Pro (2009) as the screen and keyboard of the new Mac Mini? Posted: 22 Nov 2018 06:55 PM PST My Macbook Pro is outdated, I know. The software is ancient. But it's still in perfect condition. Do I need to buy a new screen and keyboard for the new Mac Mini, or can I use my nine year Macbook Pro as a front? [link] [comments] |

New iPad Pro with faulty screen. No Apple Store nearby Posted: 22 Nov 2018 06:29 PM PST Last week I was on the states and I bought a new 11 inch iPad Pro. All good but yesterday I noticed there's is a blue line on the screen that shows up with dark colors https://imgur.com/gallery/ZdhyZn6 The problem is that I'm back in my country and we don't have Apple Stores, only Apple Authorized Service Providers. One of them took a look at it and said my device was elegible for servicing, however they can't do anything because the new iPad hasn't launched in my country yet. The problem is they are not sure when is the product launch date. And even then, they are not sure if it's going to be the same model for exchange purposes. What are my options? Or I'm SOL? Can anyone identify these Macbook Pro (2015, early) parts / give a breakdown? Posted: 22 Nov 2018 02:32 PM PST Hey guys, I just had my Macbook in for repair at the offical store. They wanted 770 USD to do my repairs which is... well, out of my wallet. It is beyond warranty so I think I have to give it a shot myself. I had to pay for the troubleshooting so here is what they said: they machine has water damage. It seems like water has come through the keyboard. The touch pad is most damaged. It is therefore necessary to switch the case. This includes keyboard, touch pad and battery. Please look at attached photos: 1 https://imgur.com/a/wyyNSL6 2 https://imgur.com/a/61Nn78G I guess picture looks like the part that needs switching? Is this a lost cause mayhaps? Thanks again. Posted: 22 Nov 2018 02:03 PM PST Running the latest version on my MacBook Pro. Have an issue with importing photos from my camera. I don't have the date stamp set up when I take pics, so when I import in the order that the pics were taken and move to iPhotos and into a new folder instead of showing in chronological order they all are mixed up. (example: photos from end of trip end up being in the middle of the sequence when looking at pics) How do I fix the issue, without having to rename 500+ pics? [link] [comments] |
Staingate past warranty? Tips for Cleaning Posted: 22 Nov 2018 01:46 PM PST Hi, I have an Early 2013 macbook pro. Though I have noticed the "staingate" issues on my laptop for a while, I only recently looked into it and saw that Apple was fixing staingate issues free for laptops purchased within 4 years. Unfortunately, mine is now >4years old. Does anyone know if there is any chance they may still replace my screen for free? If not, does anyone have any tips for removing the rest of the coating myself? Would it be a bad idea to remove all of the coating? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Apple Watch stealing Messages notifications from iPhone while charging Posted: 22 Nov 2018 12:44 PM PST Hi all, I wear my Apple Watch (series 1) once a week, the rest of the time it's at home on the charger. But lately I've been having a problem that when I receive an iMessage, the notification will appear on my iPhone and then immediately disappear because it shows up on the Apple Watch, which is at home on the charger. I will literally be looking at my lock screen and see a message come in, then immediately disappear. But if I check the watch, there it is. Often I'll be doing something, occasionally checking my phone and seeing no notifications. But later, when I unlock my phone and open my Messages app, there are dozens of unread messages and angry impatient people waiting for me. The watch is "stealing" notifications as if it's on my wrist even though it's on the charger. If I power off the watch, things work as expected, notifications all arrive on my iPhone normally. But I can't keep my watch charged while powered off. I have factory reset the watch and restored the phone, neither of which have solved the problem. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Apple demanding £150 for problem they caused Posted: 22 Nov 2018 12:31 PM PST 2015 MacBook Air I'm from the United Kingdom TL:DR Brought Mac to Apple as when charging was smoking. Melted residue on charging port. Brought to Apple shop then they sent it to America. Ring me saying they will clean free of charge as their fault. 2 days later ring me again saying laptop now broken, won't charge and they want £150 to fix. 14/11/18 - Mac is charging as normal but started to get super hot and I was unable to remove the MagSafe charger from it unless I pulled really hard and when I did there was a brown stick substance on both the charger and the charging port. Obviously seeing this I stopped charging it but at this point my Mac was still working as it had charge and if I plugged the charger back in it would still charge, whilst getting super hot. 16/11/18 - I brought my Mac in the store, showed then and told them the problem. They put their charger in and as expected, heated up extremely hot. The support worker told me that he was worried and it's a big problem, at which he proceeded to go speak to what I assume is his manager. He then came back and took the laptop and my charger and said that the laptop has to be sent to America to get checked out and they will contact me within 3 days telling what's wrong. 20/11/18 - Finally get a call from Apple support confirming there is a substance on the charging port and that they are going to clean this off as this is what is causing the problem. The Mac is still fully functional at this point and Apple are making no suggestion that the residue is my fault. The cleaning will be done free of charge. At the end of the phone call they said they will call me back in half an hour to confirm the return. 22/11/18 - Didn't receive the call back so I rang them back today and asked what's going on with my laptop, to my surprise the woman said there is a note on the file saying the laptop needs cleaning however she will call me back half an hour later. They call me back and say that now the laptop does not work, I owe them £150 for new replacement parts and a new charger. I tell them how can the laptop be broke if I sent it to them fully functional and two days ago it was fine and all it needed was a clean. The woman said she will investigate this and call me back. I ask can I have the laptop back in the state I sent it to them in and the lady replied "You can but it will be broken and won't charge". Obviously I'm confused as to why the laptop is now 'broken' even though 2 days ago it was fine. Also why would I be charged for this considering 2 days ago they said they would clean it free of charge as it is their fault. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Reinstalling OSX on completely blank MBP 2015 Posted: 22 Nov 2018 04:44 AM PST Hi Folks I think I messed up badly with by MBP, just trying to work out how bad. As a heads up I was running the latest public version of Mojave on early 2015 MBP 13" and I started getting weird pictures during the boot up sequence (of a keyboard and mouse). After some research I thought it may have been a matter of resetting PRAM, so I tried that and it was working fine for a week or two. Anyway same thing happened to me again a few days later and I tried probably a dozen times to reset PRAM again but to no avail. I ended up being able to boot it up with an external keyboard/mouse, so tried forcing it in to recovery mode and doing a fresh install of Mojave, but didn't change anything. So then had the brilliant idea of completely wiping the HDD and now there's nothing. So question is, how do I create a boot disk (preferably USB) or at least install a clean version of OSX to establish if it's a hardware/firmware problem? Or do I need to take it to the Apple Store? And when I say there's nothing on the hard drive, I can't even get it in to recovery mode now. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
2011 MacBook Pro just died. Need help extracting data from HDD Posted: 22 Nov 2018 01:02 AM PST Hi everyone! I have this old Mac book pro (2011) which suddenly stopped working. When I took it to repair they said the motherboard is fried and I need to do a whole replacement which will cost around 400 USD. So I decided to leave it as it is and go for a new MacBook so here is my question. I only want to recover my files. Specially photos in Photos application. What's the easiest method to do this? I have a external HDD enclosure which I can use to host once I remove the HDD from the laptop. I have done this numerous times on Windows laptops but with Apple I'm bit hesitant as I have no idea about the file system nor the encryption used. By extracting data like this will I be able to recover all my photos in "Photos" application as well? Just want to know this before I disassemble to laptop to get out the HDD. Please help. Thanks a lot! [link] [comments] |
