    MacOS Mojave Notification SOunds

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 08:21 PM PDT

Hey folks, just update do Mojave and can't seem to change the standard notification sounds. The one that plays on my calendar is terrible and not one I've selected from System Preferences/Sound. Does anyone know how to change this? I can't seem to find anything on the Mac support pages.

How secure is it to swap an SSD? MacBook Pro early 2015

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 03:07 PM PDT

    Hey!

So I'm looking to swap out my stock Apple SSD for a Samsung EVO 970. I've watched a few videos about how to restore from a Time Machine backup, but I just wanted to see if anyone has experience with doing this and how reliable it is.

Here's how the videos descriped the process: 1 - install the original OS your Mac came with onto the new drive 2 - update to the same version of MacOS that your backup uses 3 - restore from backup

    Thanks for your help!

Looking to purchase an external SSD drive for an iMac

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 06:55 AM PDT

Currently going through a dilemma where my machine doesn't have the capacity to support some of the tools I need for development purposes. I hear SSD's are good for performance so I'm currently looking to get one and would like feedback for those who have purchased one.

    My Technical Specs:

    iMac 21-5 inch, Late 2015

Operating System: macOS Mojave Version 10.14.1 Beta (18b73a)

Processor: 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5

    Memory: 8GB 1867 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB

2016 MBP just updated to Mojave- contrast on browsers seems off?

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 04:30 PM PDT

Anyone else have this problem? My screen looks faded and the contrast is messed up. Did a search but didn't really find anyone else with this problem. Very noticeable on the reddit homepage.

Activated Filevault, stuck with blank screen for 6+ hours

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 09:26 AM PDT

    Hi All,

After reading a bit about filevault I decided to go ahead and activate filevault to keep my HD information safe (or at least safer).

I went throgh the Filevault activation process, basically 4 or 5 "next, next" type questions and managed to get it going.

The problem is that apparently (its my theory) the computer is encrypting the drive and while that is happening, the computer has become unusable. I got a spinning cursor for a while, after a few minutes, the screen went blank and now the computer screen is unresponsive.

I know the computer is still on because I can click on and off the caps lock key on the keyboard, but other than that... I just have a blank/black screen and there is no way to wake the computer up.

Is this normal? does it take THIS long to encrypt a drive? Should I try to reboot it?

Thanks in advance for any and all help,

    -Orallo

recording terminal (bash) session w/ script locks in stty/tput lines/cols.

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 10:31 AM PDT

I'm trying to use /usr/bin/script to record a terminal session. Whenever I start the /usr/bin/script program, what ever the current size of my window (lines/columns) is locked. I can resize the terminal window all I want, and the window title changes to reflect the new dimensions; but the actual useable rows/columns that I can utilize in the terminal session remain locked at whatever I had when I initially started the /usr/bin/script session.

I don't have this problem when using script on a Debian box under gnome.

Is there a way to have windows changes to the terminal app reflect the actual # of usable lines/columns used during the /usr/bin/script session?

    Thanks.

    Mojave Wi-Fi troubles

    Posted: 29 Oct 2018 10:09 AM PDT

Surely this isn't the first post here on the subject of wi-fi issues on Mojave, but:

After the update Wi-Fi won't connect to any network, it just says that the network "could not be joined". It seems to randomly start working after a restart, but after a while it starts having issues again, and I've yet to find a definite cause or solution.

I'm getting a feeling like my wi-fi settings/configuration etc. might be somehow corrupted, but not sure how to fix it.

Anybody had similar issues and managed to fix them?

PS: I'm a developer so don't be afraid to post some command line fixes etc. if that's what it takes, I've tried most of the basic stuff already. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: seems to have something to do with a usb-c dongle and external monitor being plugged in, since wi-fi starts working immediately when I unplug all of the things
