New App Discovery Thread for October 12, 2018 Posted: 12 Oct 2018 06:32 AM PDT Welcome to our weekly stickied App thread! This is a new idea so please feel free to offer your feedback about this thread or the subreddit in general in the comments. As usual if you have a serious issue with the subreddit please contact the moderators directly. This thread is intended to help members of the /r/iphone community get informed about new apps that are out there. App developers may also use this thread to make users aware that their new app exists. Please sort comments by 'new' to find questions/information that would otherwise be buried. In this thread you can ask any iOS app related question that you may have. Anyone may offer advice on any issue. Two examples of potential questions could be; "How do I learn to code an app?", or "How is app pricing determined?" Developers, please include as much information about your app as possible, including size, price, release info, and anything else people request. Finally, please stick to reddiquette and keep your comments on topic and substantive. Thanks for participating. Ask away! [link] [comments]

Did anybody else notice that apple quietly removed “Welcome to the big screens” from their ad? Posted: 12 Oct 2018 08:17 AM PDT The first time I saw it posted here, the video ended with "Welcome to the big screens", which of course, was ridiculous. Now I see it on Hulu, and the text is gone. Did anybody notice it? [link] [comments]
Clean Links for Google on macOS Safari - iOS equivalent? Posted: 12 Oct 2018 08:15 AM PDT Finding this extension for Safari on macOS has definitely improved my browsing experience. Is there an equivalent for Safari on iOS? Or are there restrictions in iOS that would make something like this impossible? [link] [comments]
“Hello” text tone terrifies my dog Posted: 11 Oct 2018 07:18 PM PDT I finally figured out today what has been scaring my dog for many months. The text tone labeled "Hello", which is assigned to one of my friends' texts, powerfully affects my dog. She runs and cowers, then pants and shakes for 20 minutes or longer as if she's seen a ghost and her heartbeat becomes very rapid. I don't understand why, the sound is so simple and subtle, just a little dee-dun. Edit: here is a video testing my theory, as requested. This tone has been removed, and this explains why she's been acting weird occasionally for so long (probably several years), poor girl. [link] [comments]
Anyone else having Bluetooth issues on XS and/or iOS 12? Posted: 12 Oct 2018 07:25 AM PDT I never had any issues with my X, but on my XS both my bluetooth headphones and my bluetooth speaker in my office keep disconnecting. Same headphones, same speaker, on my X I could leave my phone in my living room and walk over 30 ft away with walls in between and still get a solid connection, on my XS with the headphone and/or speaker literally right next to the phone the connection drops multiple times while I'm listening to music/podcasts. In the case of the speaker it regains it after a few seconds and I just have to press "Play" again, in the case of the headphones the connection gets really shitty and spotty and eventually fixes itself, although I've also had to disconnect and re-pair my headphones at least every other day. TIL You can use voice dictation while on a call. Posted: 12 Oct 2018 08:49 AM PDT I do a ton of voice dictation, or speech to text, and I'm always making notes even when I'm on the phone speaking with people. I noticed on apple, unlike android, the built-in Apple voice dictation button is unusable during a phone call. However, if you enable Gboard, you can press and hold the spacebar button (its own voice dictation button) and the words come out perfect, even while on a call. Hopefully this is useful to somebody. Posted: 12 Oct 2018 08:48 AM PDT I bought my iPhone 8 about 11 months ago. I absolutely love. I have an apple watch with airpods as well. The X series is too expensive where I am. For some reason, I really want to get a S9 right now. There is a sale going on where the S9 is for around $550 here. I have absolutely no need to get it but I just haven't been able to get it out of my head. I keep finding reasons to justify it to myself that the camera on the S9 is miles better etc. People who stick to their phones for 2 years or more, how do you do it? Knock some reason into me please. What does battery saving mode actually doing? Posted: 12 Oct 2018 08:46 AM PDT Hi, im a new iOS user switched from Android and i love my iPhone so much so far. I have one question regarding the iOS battery saving mode. What does it exactly do? Are there any other disadvantages besides the mail refreshing being turned off? Can I have the mode turned on without any big disadvantage? I tried to have it turned on immediately after 100% fully charged and my SOT increased significantly at the end of the day. Thanks! Posted: 11 Oct 2018 09:37 PM PDT So I took my phone (8 plus) into an Apple store today for my appointment to get a new battery (mine was at 90% capacity) just because I wanted a bit better battery life. I left my IPhone at the store and came back in an hour or so to pick it up. After checking in and waiting , a service rep approached me and told me that during the repair they had scratched my phone's wireless charging unit. They were going to give me a new phone at the cost of the battery replacement ($31 after tax) . I was low key hoping they would mess up the repair . Bottom line , I got a new iPhone 😂😂, I recommend bringing in your phones. Worse case scenario you get a new battery and the phone runs better anyways. 🤷♂️ [link] [comments]
Gmail app opens links with in-app broswer Posted: 12 Oct 2018 08:09 AM PDT I have a number of different email addresses for work/personal, and so I have the iPhone's mail app assigned to my personal email and use the Gmail app for my work email. I'd prefer to keep them separate. When I click on a link in the Gmail app, it opens in the Gmail app's browser instead of opening directly in Safari, like it does if I open a link in either the iPhone mail app, or using Gmail through a web browser. There's a little 'open in safari' icon in the bottom right of the Gmail browser, but I'd prefer to skip this step. I receive a lot of emails with linked articles, and I'm used to opening the links one after another in Safari, so they're all waiting for me to read when I'm done going through my inbox. Instead, now I have to click to open it in the Gmail browser, click the 'open in safari' link, double-tap the home button to get back to the Gmail browser, tap to close that link, and then I'm back at my email ready to open the next link...it's four taps instead of just one like in the other mail apps. Any workarounds people have found to this problem? Do I just need to ditch the Gmail app and use a different mail app? Any suggestions, in that case? I'm using an iPhone 6s running 12.0, if that is important. Thanks for any feedback. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Oct 2018 08:05 AM PDT Which of the headphones available in the U.K give the loudest sound. I never feel that the iPhone headphones are loud enough even on the loudest setting, they're my ears, if I want to ruin them I will goddamit! Just a couple more notches of volume would be perfect :) [link] [comments]

Does anyone know what these are? Posted: 12 Oct 2018 09:50 AM PDT These green-ish dots appeared in the camera app and snapchat, very strongly. It's an iPhone XS. I thought something was wrong at first, but my GFs phone does appear to have them as well, although very faint, and not green but more on the gray side.
