MacBook Pro 2016 not turning on, no charging / indication of charging Posted: 05 Oct 2018 06:44 PM PDT I own a MacBook Pro 2016, and no matter what I try it won't turn on. Power cycling, SMC resets, bashing my face into a wall, everything. I had it in my backpack on a trip to Seoul, and while my backpack is mostly waterproof, a little moisture did make its way in, and I noticed it covered on the front and back end of the computer. Could this be due to water damage, and how salvageable is my hard-drive? I tried leaving it tilted with a towel wrapped around it over night to no avail. I'm a music producer and all my work is on there. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. ( No I'm not taking it to Apple because they take forever and I can almost guarantee will give me 0 answers. ) UPDATE: charger now lighting up. Will come back in an hour or two [link] [comments]
2017 15" Macbook Pro Speaker Replacement Posted: 05 Oct 2018 09:52 PM PDT A couple weeks ago I plugged in my charger into the right side of my machine and immediately a weird static noise started emitting from the right speaker, I unplugged the charger but it was still happening so I immediately powered down. After powering up it was apparent part of the speaker had blown as it was only playing low frequency sounds. I am out of warranty so I contacted a local apple authorized repair shop (no apple stores) and they quoted me $750CAD + tax as the official apple repair for this issue is to replace the entire top case assembly. After a little searching I found that ifixit sells the speaker alone for $30USD, so I bought it and a tool kit for another $30, after shipping to Canada and duties it was a bit over $100 CAD. I got it today and I was expecting the replacement to be a bit difficult but all in all it took only about 10-15 minutes. After opening the back of the machine all I had to do unplug the battery(there are disassembly videos online that show this much), unplug the defective speaker, then heat up the top case where the speaker was located with a hair dryer a couple times alternating with prying it up with the prying tool that came in the tool kit. It came off in a couple minutes and left all the original adhesive fully in tact on the top case. I just applied a bit more heat to the original adhesive and plopped in the replacement speaker and plugged it in, plugged in the battery and put the back panel back on and it was good to go. It sounds just like it did before. I couldn't find any documentation or videos about this repair online so hopefully this helps anyone else with a blown speaker on an out of warranty 2016 or 2017 touch bar 15", save a lot of money and replace it yourself for way cheaper. Macbook Pro 2018 13" Black Friday Posted: 05 Oct 2018 12:46 PM PDT I'm looking at buying the 13" 2018 MBPro TB with the 2.3ghz quad core i5, 16gb Ram, and 256gb of storage for $2000. Do you guy think there will be a sale for this on Black Friday? IDK if macbooks go on sale on BF but if it's significantly cheaper ($150>) I'd rather wait to buy it. [link] [comments]
How to add a password using quick actions? Posted: 05 Oct 2018 04:48 PM PDT So one of the main reasons I updated my mac to Mojave was that numerous previews and articles about it were claiming that you can "add a password to any file" using quick actions. So I was hoping that I could just right click ANY file, photo, PDF, docx, yes - even folders (!) and a window will pop up, I enter a password and repeat said password. the next time i would try to open said file/folder the set password would be required. great option and really about time to get implemented, I heard about the way of creating a disk image and password protecting it but that is way too complicated and really unsexy since it is a new file and not just the original file being password created. updated to Mojave, playing around with it, right clicking a PDF -> quick actions and heyyyy surprise surprise, of course no "easy-set-a-password-to-any-file"-function. So can maybe please someone explain me what I am doing wrong, I tried figuring out my way using the automator application but since I have no clue what to do there I of course didn't achieve anything, furthermore it looks like that when using the automator app in order to add a password protection to files, it is anyway only possible for PDF´s and not the proclaimed "any files". I appreciate any help, so far I am just disappointed because I think it really is an important option that should have been available for a long while and easy to use (just right click something, choose a password and protect your files/folders, without doing automator stuff or creating new disk images). attached you can find a screenshot of one of the videos I watched that mentioned the "password protect ANY file" option without actually showing how to, if I click on my quick actions it wouldn't even show the "add password" option in the first place. What is wrong? Thick white line showed on my MBP 2017 screen, and then disappeared the next day Posted: 05 Oct 2018 03:36 PM PDT White line showed up. When I tried shutting it down and turning it on again, the line was still there. So I was convinced something was wrong. However, the line disappeared the next day without me doing anything. I didn't update or anything. Here's a photo of the line: https://imgur.com/a/GPm3dFg Would appreciate any input. [link] [comments]

Sad to report that the refreshed 2018 MBP's keyboard is STILL crappy Posted: 05 Oct 2018 02:19 PM PDT I bought mine (13" Touch Bar base model) just last week as a secondary laptop, and today, one of the keys is glitching out because something got under. Keep in mind I don't even use it that often. Such a shame, because I love how the keyboard feels (a fan of short travel distance and shallow keyboards) and everything about the laptop. Cheaper alternative for spare charger for Macbook Pro Posted: 05 Oct 2018 01:21 PM PDT I have a macbook pro 2016 which is USB-C. I was looking to buy a additional charger and looking for alternatives as apple manufactured one costs $80+ I don't need the same speed for charging as OEM. Any suggestions? [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Oct 2018 02:01 AM PDT So I have a 2017 Macbook pro and just got a piece of crumb underneath the trackpad. Tried picking it out with a piece of paper but it went under instead. Should I worry about my trackpad possibly encountering any problems because of debris under the force touch trackpad in the future? I know there are problems with the Butterfly Gen 2 keyboard, is the trackpad similar? [link] [comments]
2017 MacBook Pro 13-inch - Static Waking Up From Sleep Posted: 05 Oct 2018 01:44 AM PDT Sometimes when I wake up my two-month old MacBook Pro from sleep there is glaring, Poltergeist-like visual static that disappears after 1-2 seconds. Think old TV set. This happened once or twice for .25 seconds a few days after I bought the machine but has been assaulting my delicate eyes (green - M/24 - 6'2 - DM wide and clear) more often for longer period. I will mention the machine, due to its exceptionally slippery build, has slid of my couch a couple times. I estimate it was a foot and a half free fall. With this being said the visual static had occurred before the incident Apple's call service suggested I update my OS. This did not resolve the issue Because it is after the 2 week return period are they going to tell me to screw off??? Chances I get a new one? [link] [comments] |
