Disk deleted after updating to OS Mojave? Posted: 10 Oct 2018 08:37 PM PDT Like the title says, MacBook was working fine for the longest time. I download the update for Mojave tonight and it restarts, then won't come on because the startup disk is gone. I've troubleshoot it but nothings there. I've had it since 2015 with no problems. Anyone else having this issue? [link] [comments]

Macbook Pro 2016 (~9 months old), Degraded Battery Life and Increased Cycle Count Posted: 11 Oct 2018 12:32 AM PDT Model - Macbook Pro, 2016 15'' Touchbar. Date of Purchase - December 26, 2017. Specs - Intel Core i7 6700HQ, 2.6 GHz, 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 RAM Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB/AMD Radeon Pro 450 256 GB SSD. Its been 9 months, 13 days since I purchased the laptop. I'm a student studying Computer Science. My workflow - Google Chrome (usually 8-10 tabs) Terminal Text Editor (Sublime) Preview (for pdfs) Itunes Screen Brightness - 60% on average. Automatic graphics switching on, for battery life. I have used VirtualBox for about a month, during February-March 2017, when I needed VMs for a course I was taking. Initially, the first few months until about last couple of months, battery life was easily around 9-10 hrs, at least 8 on heavy usage for my workflow. Now I get around 5-5.5 hrs, maximum 6. What steps have I taken already as a diagnostic measure? - Reset SMC and NVRAM when I was on High Sierra (before Mojave Came out) (No improvement) - Clean installed MacOS Mojave once it was out. - Uninstalled Chrome and used safari for a week to check if it was the issue - Stopped using Itunes for music in the background to check - Reset SMC and NVRAM again. Even then, no significant improvement in my batter life. I keep my laptop plugged in as much as possible to reduce cycle count from increasing as well, and use it on battery only rarely when I absolutely can't carry my charging brick with me. Apart from this, Apple has listed the maximum cycle count for this model's battery as 1000, after which I should consider replacing it. My cycle count is already at 338. I find it to be large compared to some people I know who've kept their cycle count very less following the principle of keeping it plugged in as much as possible without letting it die. One redditor has told me his cycle count is 14, when he got his Macbook 1 year and 1 month ago. At this rate, will my cycle count reach 1000 within the 2-2.5 years of purchase? Is that how it is normally? I find the thought of replacing my macbook Pro's battery so soon to be alarming, because, as far as I remember, my previously owned MacBook Air's battery lasted a good 4-5 years before I had to replace its battery. I live in India, where there aren't any apple stores. Service centres authorized by apple are there though. If this is a problem, should I go ask for replacement of battery? Intermittent Backlight on MacBook 5,2 Issue - Could Inverter swap fix? Posted: 10 Oct 2018 04:34 PM PDT So, on occasion, my backlight works on my macbook 5,2 (upon start only), otherwise it is broken. I have heard that either the inverter board or cable may fix it. I have looked all over and the only guide is ifixit, They recommend taking the entire thing apart just to get at the piece, which is behind the clutch cover. Is there no other easier way to replace the inverter? I understand that if the cables are bad that it is a very in depth fix. I have the tools but have never done this fix before. Does anyone have any info on a fix for this? Any help welcome. [link] [comments]

Apple MacBook to VGA External Monitor? Posted: 10 Oct 2018 01:13 PM PDT I have a newer MacBook (USB-C) with an adaptor that has USB, HDMI, and USB-C slots. Can I use this to connect to a monitor that only has VGA input? I have a VGA to USB adaptor as well. I have tried making the connection but it does not seem to be working. Is it possible to make this work? Here's a link to my VGA/USB adaptor: https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/accessories/apd/a9176307?cid=302824&st=&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvsmI5dX83QIVxbjACh1E_wN2EAQYAiABEgKaLfD_BwE&lid=5758064&VEN1=sGebElV0u,112781467989,901q5c14135,c,,A9176307&VEN2=,&dgc=st&dgseg=so&acd=12309152537501410&VEN3=810504614206375549 [link] [comments]

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 12:06 PM PDT Hi all, I want to buy an used Macbook, and I can't decide which one should I pick. Both of them have an Intel i5, 256gb ssd and 8gb ram. I read about the problem regarding the butterfly switches and I was wondering if the 2016 Macbook Pro is affected. Which one do you think is better? (The difference for the money is quite insignificant) Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Oct 2018 10:31 AM PDT So I have and old MacBook to try to sell. It was my mom's and she basically never uses it so I'm trying to get some money back to buy a newer model for myself. MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) i5 2.4GHz 8Gb RAM 128Gb SSD 45 battery cycles only, Full box, original cables, no damage or markings etc. Any idea how much this is worth nowadays? I think it cost 1600EUR at the time. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Installing older versions of OS X on MBP 2011 Posted: 10 Oct 2018 10:29 AM PDT Hi, I have a MacBook Pro from 2011 that shipped with Snow Leopard and I want to downgrade from High Sierra back to Snow Leopard. It's original OS was 10.6.6 but I only have a copy of 10.6.0 would it work? [link] [comments]
3 Day Old MacBookPro won’t turn on Posted: 10 Oct 2018 09:32 AM PDT I got a brand new 2017 MacBook Pro 3 days ago, and all of a sudden it won't turn on. I tried everything and called Apple support. No mishandling, perfect care, fully charged. Apple Store can't get me in until next Tuesday. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Super tough case for 2017 rMBP? Posted: 10 Oct 2018 09:14 AM PDT Long story short, I'm taking my Macbook on a long motorcycle trip. I'm looking for a case that can protect my Macbook from shocks and vibrations, and from my luggage pressing against it. It should be as compact as possible, because I don't have infinite luggage space. Do you have a case in mind? Otherwise, I might make my own on the cheap with plastic/metal plates and foam sheets. 4 Year old Macbook Pro Replacement (Bootcamp Required) Posted: 10 Oct 2018 08:05 AM PDT TLDR: Does the New Macbook Pro play well with Bootcamp? Specifically, do the USB-C dongle/Converters work natively in Windows? Looking for a replacement for my 4 year old Macbook Pro 15". The interesting thing is I exclusively run Windows 10 on my current machine. I was doing some iOS development 4 years ago when I purchased the Macbook. I thought about going to cheaper route and buying an XPS 15, but the fan issues that seem to plague the XPS line bother me. Also I had a XPS m1330 a few years ago that constantly overheated and ended up having to replace the main board 2x. I also considered the Surface, but I thought the Macbook Pro has been great to me, possibly the best windows laptop I've ever owned. Any thoughts? I do Photoshop + Solidworks which are probably the most intense applications. Sometimes I do have to do some video editing in Premiere. I do some programming with embedded systems now, which requires a wired ethernet connection, but since nearly anything you buy has to have a dongle I don't think that really matters. The one issue I did have with W10 on the Macbook was the Thunderbolt dongle for Ethernet would not be recognized until I rebooted. I wonder if that is the case with all of the new Thunderbolt 3 / USB C standard? [link] [comments]
Posted: 10 Oct 2018 08:04 AM PDT Sorry about the long title, but wanted to put all the details on it. So:
USB or ISO file on finder is not an option, since Bootcamp 3 doesn't let you do that, and because reasons, I can't update or buy an upgraded Bootcamp. It doesn't even show as pending update Apps update tool. I tried to modify the .plist file using a guide, but it didn't had the parameters to let the USB or ISO file option to be available. What could be the issue? AFAIK all errors found on google links up to the version being 64bit and since 1,1 architecture is 32bit, it doesn't let the disc boot. My DVD is burned - as I said - with a 32bit version. Any feedback is really appreciated. Is it something related to the fact that Windows 10 structure just won't work on this hardware?
