Disk Utility sizing partitions different than what I set them to. Posted: 22 Jul 2018 06:14 PM PDT So this has happened to me three times now. I am rearranging my backups on a 4TB external drive and need to resize the partitions. I have three partitions: Storage (2TB), Time Machine (1.75TB) and Scratch Disk(.25TB). It seems to work but every time I have done it when I check it is sized las follows: Storage(2TB), Time Machine(1YB) and Scratch Disk(.98TB). Anyone else experienced anything similar? I never had problems with the old Disk Utility where it just wiped everything before partitioning. Now it seems like you can do that and I am finding the re-sizing of partitions very wonky and unintuitive (not to mention it takes FOREVER if you just resize that's there). Thanks in advance, sick of transferring and retransferring hundreds of gig :) [link] [comments] |
Help me with Contacts and Messages on my new Mac Posted: 22 Jul 2018 08:35 PM PDT Hey guys, so I just got my first Mac, a 2018 MacBook Pro. Anyways, I have an iPhone X with all of my contacts on it, and I want the contacts to be on my new Mac so I can use them in messages and email. When I logged into my Apple ID, about 10 or 15 of the 115 contacts were synced to my Mac. I restarted my computer, and it is still like that. I realized that the contacts that did get synced are the newest ones that I have made, and the ones that didn't get synced were the ones that I had imported from my galaxy s7 that I had before my iPhone. Anyways, could the old contacts not be on the iCloud but the new ones are? I don't care that much about whether or not they are on iCloud, I just want to be able to have all of my contacts on my Mac. Also, when I begin a message on my Mac, are they synced and shown on my iPhone usually? I have only used messages once so far, and it was with a number that was not synced to my Mac yet. Posted: 22 Jul 2018 08:07 PM PDT I'm not sure if this is the correct subreddit, sorry. I'm on macOS Mojave, and I'll looking at using gpg. GnuPG Download has two links, and I'm rather confused which one I should use. My intention is to use gpg primarily for signing git commits, which I do all from the command line. [link] [comments] |
Having trouble upgrading from Sierra to High Sierra/Mojave Posted: 22 Jul 2018 09:36 AM PDT First things first, I'll get the particulars out of the way: I am running MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 on a Macbook Pro (15 inch, 2017) with 16 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD and Radeon 555 dedicated graphics. So I've tried and failed to install both the MacOS High Sierra and the beta for MacOS Mojave multiple times. Each time, I have to reinstall Sierra from the Recovery Mode and restore my Time Machine backup. I have tried upgrading from within Sierra and performing a clean install of said operating systems from a flash-drive. The error I get - a flashing folder icon with a question mark at startup - is the same with both methods. This is because my internal SSD is not recognised as a Startup Drive (it's missing from the Startup Drive Utility in Recovery Mode) after High Sierra is installed. I can confirm that High Sierra is installed by going into the Recovery Menu and checking the contents of the SSD. As I've said previously, I have tried installing from within Sierra where the installation converts the SSD with a MacOS Journaled filesystem automatically into APFS during installation - this has failed. I have also tried doing a clean install i.e formatting the SSD, reformatting it as APFS and then trying to install the new OS. Predictably, this fails too with everything going swimmingly until the final restart which brings you into the High Sierra environment; alas! the question mark folder again. I've tried to explain, as best I could, my issue with updating from Sierra to High Sierra and Mojave. Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Oh and I can't schedule an appointment with an Apple Genius as I don't reside in a country where Apple officially operates. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Does macOS do time machine backups from iCloud? Posted: 22 Jul 2018 03:09 AM PDT Restore your current OS (not the original for your device). Applications are downloaded automatically from the App Store & just restore your data & configuration from your iCloud. [link] [comments] |
